I've had a lot of success dry burning the coils, but those damn to wicks are a bit of a headache to keep from falling apart.. so when I cleaned a head last night, I decided to give cotton a shot.

I used cotton balls... I had to play with the thickness a tad before I got to the point where the top wick filed the gap but didn't have any signs of compression when I pulled the post back off. I wet the cotton with a little juice before I put everything back together...popped it on my spinner and vaped away. Guessing it's running around 8w or so.

So far, so good.. good vapor, flavor is good, no gurgling. After a few more tanks, I'll pull the cotton to see if there is any charing, but I think this will be a viable means to keep those coils going.

Yeah, I have like 20 spares, and they are dirt cheap... but the longer I can run a coil, the less I have to order. :)

And my Vamo V3 comes tomorrow, which will let me see if it can handle more power without burning.

Hi Leo,

I use 100% cotton yarn for replacement flavor wicks on Evods, T3 and Protanks. Just the right thickness, easy to use. Just lay in, replace the post and snip to length. Easier than teasing strands off a cotton ball. And I figure that one ball of yarn is going to last me a long time!

It also works well as the wick itself, if you rewind your own coils.

Yarn.... that would work awesome. I am just leary of yarn being REALLY 100% cotton.

And yes... that would last FOREVER basically. Never a need to worry about the flavor wicks, even tossing them each time I rinse the coil. I am going to try recoiling soon, but when I do that, I am going to go with silica wicks to allow for dry burning. Though, I guess once I got really good with coiling, going with cotton would save the need to get wicks. Too bad there wasn't an easily obtained replacement for Kanthal. Heh...

What I happened to get was a Wally World, "Peaches & Cream 100% USA Grown Cotton", in white. Approx. 120 yards in the skein. At about 1" per head, let's see... that's 4320 flavor wicks... ought to hold me for a while!

I'm sort of leaning that way as well, Leo, for the same reason. Toss the flavor wick, wash everything out, dry burn, put on a new cotton flavor wick.

I do have silica for when it's time to actually make a new coil, and guess I ought to break down and by a big spool of kanthal...

Sure, I'll put up a pic if I get the chance. I took the advice and picked up some Peaches and Cream 100% yarn today, going to thrive that on my mothballed T3 to see how it goes. Size looks right on for a top wick.

If that works, bye bye cotton balls... for $1.50, I'll never need to worry about to wicks again.

Microcoil? Do I need a magnifying glass to see it?

If you use the 1/16 bit, be sure to wind on the shank, not the drill end :p

Or use a 4/40 machine screw, which helps to keep an evenly wound coil.

There us a big thread on it in the rebuildable section. It's pretty much ten loops touching together. It works well :)
