Wow that is rough. I must have like a dozen SSD drives in use today. My oldest ones are 11 years old now. And only one ever failed. And I thought everything on it was permanently gone. Nothing important on it, just the idea of installing everything again from scratch would have been a pain. But I left it powered up for 90 minutes on the work bench and got busy with something else. Normally I would have powered it down and tossed it in the recycle bin. But I got a crazy idea to try it once more before doing so. And I'll be damned, it worked perfectly. I repeated experiments and if warmed up, always worked. When cold, never. But it still ended up in the recycle bin.Ever have one of those days?
I'm pretty sure all of my SSDs are either Samsung or Kingston. I might have three Intel SSDs too, as I am not sure. I used to be paranoid about writing to a SSD too much. As lots of writing shortens their life. But one day I decided to do some calculations. And most of my SSDs under normal use couldn't use up all of its writes in 50 years. This Kingston on this machine has pretty much been running 24/7 for the past 4 years. And it reports it only has 97% of its life left. This is working out to a lifespan of about 100 years. Me worry?
