Thats the pegasus designed box correct? That thing looks pretty slick! I currently have 2 dna40s devices (HB40 and rDNA40) and love them to bits as I rotate them both. I know most didn't like the button placement of the HB40 but I prefer using it in my left hand so I actually like the buttons.

Yes, it was designed with input from the "PVA family" and it looks like it will turn out to be a nice mod.

With all the new TC mods coming out I had to tell myself to wait till after summer before buying any more mods.

Yep... seems there are always new devices just around the corner using current technology...new technology usually takes a bit longer....

I posted this in the Hana V4S thread but I think this is relevant for this thread as well.

The screen glitches still exist and are not fixed on the newest large screen atty lock boards. I have had mine do it once but never again after that.

Interesting....Had my V4 since Wednesday and put about 3 tanks thru it (and charged once) and have not seen a display issue. Will monitor mine....

So your's did it once?

In the video, it's almost like there's some sort of interference taking place within the screen every time the Fire button was pressed. The screen would look fine when it was released. Strange. I have a V4 Hana Modz on the way so I guess I'll see. My Flask has been perfect so lets hope our Hana's are too.

I don't want the screen glitch or interference or whatever it is, but as along as I can use TP and have everything else function as it should. Then maybe I won't stress too much if it resets like that after firing. If it resets that fast I might not even notice it unless I'm firing it like in the video or in a mirror.? But damn, can finding the cause of this be that difficult.

Once I get mine, I'll keep Y'all posted. [emoji120]

But damn, can finding the cause of this be that difficult.

Not offering any excuses but finding the cause for something like this can be extremely difficult. Not so much if the problem is purely in the firmware (e.g., display timing issues) but if it's electrical interference all bets are off. These OLED displays are susceptible to noise and the datasheets for the displays and the display controller chips mention this multiple times. Finding out if this is a problem in any particular board design or installation can be a nightmare though. There are so many combinations of wiring, switch types, current flow, etc., for all the mods it can be hard to spot a pattern that might help to determine the cause of the problems.

If mods like the Hana are having problems then it should be somewhat easier to figure out. They're all the same so even though they're used by different people the susceptibility/immunity testing (electrical noise, spikes, surges, static discharges, nearby radio emissions, etc,) and beta testing should have brought these problems to the surface early on.

I don't know if companies like Hana do susceptibility/immunity testing though. It's a brutal, very fast paced market and this testing takes time and money. I can easily see them depending on Evolv to do this testing and update the boards when necessary to make them robust enough. Trouble is, Evolv can't do this kind of testing for every mod that might use the board.

Not trying to put down Hana or Evolv. I think this is just where the market has pushed everyone in order to be competitive.

[edit] If swapping out the screens fixes all the problems then it's just a bad batch of screens. That can be crazy hard to track down too though. Manufacturers need to assume, for the most part, that the components they use in their designs will work as specified. You can design around some possible component issues but that gets ridiculous after a while.
Tracking down something like a faulty screen problem can be a nightmare because it can appear like any number of other problems: electrical intereference, firmware issues like incorrect powerup/down of the display (a surprisingly complex sequence) and timing of the display data and command transmissions, unstable or oscillating voltages on the circuit board due to unstable regulator, voltage (power) to the display being too low or high, etc. Any of these can mimic the look of a faulty screen.

The screen glitch issue has always been fixable by swapping the screen. The current iteration of it included. Producers can test beforehand and go a long way toward not having this happen.
Hana's response is poor, IMO, and is a reason not to buy Hanas. Other manufacturers may have better QC in place and policies to deal with this issue.

Interesting! No one who has had their screen replaced sees the screen glitch again? Or, at least, most of those with replaced screens are OK after that?

Is just the screen replaced or do they also update the firmware and/or replace any other components?

As long as it is replaced with a good screen, it fixes the issue. Nothing else needs to be replaced. This has been true from the launch version. However design revisions have eliminated the glitch from the small screen boards entirely.

Thanks! As an electronics engineer I'm almost genetically interested in the various incredible board designs, their use, occasional problems, and fixes. I appreciate your patience with my question.

Good information....seems an illusive situation to me... of the many mods I've built (using several board versions) for personal use and even with the original Hana beta unit I have not had a screen glitch. No doubt they occur. The V4 Hana (new) I purchased hasn't glitched either but I noticed one time a quick screen reset (blink) while firing it.

So are you saying that Evolv is shipping them bad screens?

I can't see how Hana Modz can only be at fault here when basically every single manufacturer putting out DNA40 devices has had screen problems. That is an Evolv problem.

Always appreciate any EE who want to discuss the technology objectively. Several EE's have dropped in on Evolv threads over the past few months.
