Are the screens on the DNA40 really made of glass?? I (ignorantly) assumed they were made of plastic. I want to clean the (unprotected) screen on my Flask more often, but I am afraid of scratching it all up.

BNEAT,

I don't know if they are glass or plastic but they are coated with some optical medium so be carful with what you use to clean it. I have had great luck with a soft cotton tip swap (not the six inch stick type) and the cleaner they sell for cleaning TV screens. I wouldn't even use tap water because where I live the water is so hard it has rocks in it and Windex has ammonia which can play havoc with the optical coating.

Soft cotton swabs and no scratches - so far.

I've been using CelluCotton-Cotton to gently clean mine. (I've got about a mile of the stuff left that I'll never use since I switched to CelluCotton-Rayon) I'm so concerned with getting moisture in there I that don't wet it very much, so it doesn't clean very well, and it appears to be scratching the surface. (but It could just be smears from not getting it completely clean)

Not the end of the world, but it sure would've been nice if VaporFlask would've put a sealed window in there. For our convenience they beveled the opening so that all of our leaked juice funnels right in!

BNEAT,

I don't IMO think Cellucotton is the best medium to use. When I first wet my rayon wicks with juice it initially resist wetting. Once it is wet it is golden. The cotton swabs I use will almost immediately wet when I apply the screen cleaner.

But as you have experienced sometime the cleaning process take several attempts to get it clean without streaks.but no scratches that I know of and I am not going to look or break out the magnifying glass because if it is I DON'T WANT TO KNOW.

They are glass ... always have been. Breaking them is somewhat of a rite of passage for dna modders.

I've been using CelluCotton COTTON. I've got a box of Rayon AND a box of Cotton. (The cotton is leftover from when my wife dambled in hair styling)

The Rayon does seem like it might scratch unless it was completely saturated.

I agree but I am sure we are going to get flamed for saying that.

I've been lucky. I had a lot of practice with 6 cloupor enclosures and a couple of other Hana clones before I started building my DNA40's.

And I use a microfiber cloth to clean my screen.

Just got a response back from evolv about my dying DNA 40 screen. They want me to send them the board AGAIN ,and they said they would replace it free. I'm getting tired of doing this. If this next board dies, I'll sharpen the board to a fine point and stab myself in the neck.

Wait! Instead, how about you send me the board to take a close look at (all sorts of stuff I'd like to check out) and I send you a sharpened stick. :p

So did the display seem to be cracked?

LOL. Ya thought everything went good with the installation. Everything worked great for a day then woke up one morning, took a vape and while looking down and noticed the screen was super dim in one corner. Over the next day the screen was completely eaten up by the " creeping darkness". I just to be done with this DNA flask transplant.

Not to excuse the screen dying on you, and honestly the screen issues still existing is beyond ridiculous at this point, but lets not forget what happened to the board the first time:

....Evolv hooked me the F**K UP! Even after I told them it was my fault they still sent me a brandy new board and quick! Like a less than a week waiting. Thank you Evovl.....

No, does not appear to be cracked. Ribbon cable is not pinched nor kinked and still looks like a solid connection between board and cable and screen and cable. I don't understand why this happened. I guess it was just a case of a defective screen.

The first time was 100% my fault. I'm more than grateful for evolv giving me a new board. I guess I'm just frustrated with repeated obstacles preventing me to finish this project. I have two other mods waiting for transplants as well. All in all it will work itself out.

Learning how to replace the screen is a good thing for modders.

I agree. I wish though that all the manufacturers used connectors instead of soldering down the screen connection to the board. Some screens are only available in solder versions, and connectors increase board cost, but it would make their customers happier and perhaps lower return/replacement costs.

Well most manufacturers do not have separate screens, i.e. their boards are not designed for modding.

The one manufacturer that does is the only one that uses the connector...
