The reason you're seeing all these videos of exploding e cigs is because we now live in a world where everywhere you turn you're on some video monitoring you, whether stores, buses, or even just walking down the street. TV news loves, and needs, dramatic video to increase, if not at least hold, their audience. Watching someone's pocket blow up with sparks and flames is great footage to air. And if anyone doubts that TV news has become anything other than an entertainment source driven by ratings, just look at the last US election.
In the last 24 hours, I'm aware of 2 exploding e cigs "caught on tape". One in Britain, the other in CA. That's what, 7000 miles apart? Yet despite the distance, and the fact that in NY I'm ~3,000 miles away from both, and because news has become so immediate, it feels like it's happening right outside my home. Until we get (fat chance) thoughtful and careful analysis of events, reality TV news will win out and exploding pockets will be the buzz of today. Until a Kardashian figures out some way of drawing the media's attention for another 15 minutes.
