How are you minimally oxidizing the ss wicks? On my last 2 that I have been using, I used a regular lighter and heated up the end where the coil goes.

After rolling the wick, I do 3 juice burns with PG. After it's installed, I pulse with a mechanical mod until the coils are glowing evenly, adjusting them as necessary.

I'll try to do the juice burn on the coil end only next time I replace the wick. Thanks

I doubt I'll try ceramic, at least until the price comes down considerably.

Too expensive
Availability too limited
Sizes are limited
Too fragile
Break in time appears to be too long

Flavor wise? I can't say; not having tried it. But I'm pretty happy with minimally oxidized ss wicks.

i think you said you have like 7 mods and like 7 gennys, you just bought an ac-9. i bet you have spent thousands and a 5 dollar wick that will last for months is to expensive.

It's not a matter of not being able to afford them. I just don't believe the difference in performance justifies $6+ wicks, as opposed to pennies for mesh wicks. A mesh wick can also last months. A Ceramic wick may also, or it may last a matter of seconds, if it breaks.

Ok, I am fully broken-in with the flat kanthal on ceramic. I am getting 2x the performance vs round wire (and the round wire was really good). YMMV, but it I am really impressed.

might have to try this out soon

ordered some flat .8mm yesterday, and a few meters of 25AWG. its gonna get cloudy...

once you get this running buddy, i will see how you like it. then i will know exactly what wire and wraps

Oh, I'm sure I'll try one eventually. I'm just in no hurry. At this point, I'm not dissatisfied with anything about the mesh wicks I'm currently building.

might work, i think it needs to be able to tighten up as you anneal, does it?

i should stretch, then let it cool, then heat up again and stretch again. this is supposed to make it to when you eventually wire the coil it doesnt stretch and become loose.

yes, like a little windy knob. i have heard of people really stretching the wires a few times, i wonder how much better it holds compared to just annealing just in hand like most do.

I'd think that the more you stretch it, the longer it will last.

Stretch? It will change dimensions--like diameter!. And the dia.
will be smallest where the hottest spot was.
