hey guys i just dremmel scored 4 spiraled grooves into just one side of my1/8 wick also gave it a quick sand and am going to try the ehw method, always wanted to try having the wire slightly below the surface of the ceramic, will let you know how it comes out

That's a nice idea, that'll give you a mark of the coils start...
The setup now is so efficient that I just managed to close my DID fill screw! Something I have never, ever managed to do! Im ecstatic...

Elias Hot Wrap - 30g flat kanthal 1.6 ohms

I almost gave up on flat kanthal with ceramic. Using the flame pointing at you and having the glowing ceramic do the heating of the wire did the trick. I could never get good secure apposition with ribbon/ceramic but the wire just conformed and adhered to the wick. This is a fishwick so its not perfectly round, even or smooth, so it should be even better with FC2000. No breakin period! You da mon.

I dreamt of this - the grey and silver barbers pole. Which diameter flat kanthal is this, 0.8? Looks amazing and the performance should be the same. Well done.

Guys freedom has a price. focus on ALL the things u can do now :D

anyways, just received my petsmart mail, hehehe!!!
anyone can tell me how to safely remove the black plastic holders?!?!

A fine toothed hacksaw works great for cutting off plastic and cutting out sections. Gets it done in a minute. Figure one blade for every 1-2 wicks.

just finished the groovey ehw wick, it came out perfect, blowing clouds from the first vape. to be honest i cannot compare it to one without the grooves, for this is the first attempt on a 3/4 wrap of 28g. last night i did a ehw 2/3 wrap of 28g @0.6 ohms and it worked pretty well for my first attempt at this hot method. now that i am pretty efficient with this way i would have to wrap the same 4/5, 28g without the grooves to compare one with and one without. it is kind of neat to just follow the scores on the wick. when i did score the wick i made 2 extra scores, one obove and one below, so when it came time to install i unwrapped the top one and the bottom one to uncover the very tight middle ones. dont know yet if its more trouble then what its worth, for it takes some time scoring the wick and figuring out just where they are supposed to be. but once you do have it scored, its a little easier to wrap it for then you know where to start. that ribbon wire looks the sh--, dont it?

hey deadperfect. about your 3/32 wick, are you planning on wrapping with 28g or 30g? if using the 30g you might have to be more careful in this ehw wrap, i do believe that the video is all in 28g so not sure how the 30g will heat. also in elias video this is a 1/8 wick, so just want to inform you that the 1/8 wicks are much more sturdy.

deadperfect, just went back and looked, it does look like elias did use 30g wire in his video, but defiantly a 1/8 wick. if you dont hold the 3/32 wick just right when attempting this hot wrap method it may snap. i just know that you only have one wick that someone gave you, so just want to let you know that the 3/32 wicks are nowhere near as solid as the 1/8 wicks.

so i am vaping with this scored wick and starting to notice some decrease in vapor, so i examined the coils and found some tiny gaps in the top and bottom coils. this can just be that i havent mastered this ehw or that the scores in the wick has created some irregular bends in the wire. being that i only scored one side of wick the profile is not round, but sort of flat where the wire goes into the score, and coming out of the score its not a smooth transition, so the wires dont seem to comform as well in this irregularity compared to a round surface. maybe if the scores were around the whole wick it would be better, but this can affect the wicks stability, so not sure this would be good. anyways, it still vapes really good and no break in period at all, but do have slight gap where the wires transition from score to not scored sections.

OK..first shot at a Fishstick. Drilled the AGA-T out to 1/8 - no way I would have been able to get the wick down to 3/32! (wow those threads are close- one RCH more & I would have gone into the center-post well).

Used Elias's method to wrap 4/5 turns of 30 ga Kanthal (not pretty, but no shorts or hot-spots & only burned my fingers twice - burned through a couple of strands of wire until I got the hang of it).
Great method of wrapping this stuff...1.8 Ohms right off & no hot spots at all. Elias; you are my new hero! :toast:

Acid test: Running 100%VG (Boba's) and already starting to wick pretty well, but it's only been a few minutes...

Jury's still out as far as flavor - it seems a bit muted right now, but I figure it will get better as I vape through the tank. I even knocked the thing over accidentally when I was taking the pictures, wick held up fine.

I don't know if it's worth it so far - I'm pretty good at building SS wicks & coils, but had to give it a shot.

Thanks for all the great ideas! It's fun trying new methods to improve the experience :thumb:

EDIT: It's only been about 15 minutes of vaping, and this dang thing is coming alive! WOW! I'm starting to see why you guys are pursuing the ceramics! Very interesting...I even seem to be getting more nic; even though I'm only @ 6mg with this juice...this thing is starting to make my head spin.... Yowza!

Ok, just made a 28g EHW... Once I got rid of the fear and used to the idea of a flame pointed at me, it got easier.
it took a few back and forth until I got it nice. I'll get the hang of it. amazing vape right from the start.
Bless you for this contribution Elias.

Just successfully completed a 4/3 28g wrap using the EHW method as well (thanks Elias!!). Very careful with the 3/32 diy fishwick, but after 3 or 4 wrap/unwraps, I got it tightly wound. I did it keeping the torch flame going away from me while twisting the wick and holding just enough tension pulling down on the wire. No hot coils this time and rockin some 0.9ohm plumes on the aga-t+ and ST Telescope. Finally, I'm able to see what a sub 1 ohm 28g setup is supposed to be like - awesome!

hey buddy, you have got to have a 1/8 wick, a 3/4 wrap on the 1/8 wick comes out between 0.8 to .09. i would tend to think that a 28g on the 3/32 wicks would take 7 wraps for that resistance. maybe because you made them yourself they are thicker then 3/32?

depending on just how tight you get the coils it can take a few tanks before the flavor & vapor really shines, in the meantime keep the tank topped off as much as possible and do not push the voltage.

This IS, the right thread! Thanx Diver, still waiting on the wicks and the E.H.W. seems like the way to go, PROPS. to the big E.

well in a way it is good that you dont have them yet, because now when you do get them you can go straight to the best method so far, the ehw method.
