I use 100% PG. I've never even tried VG. How much of a difference does it make?

VG gives you better vapor, but less throat hit, and its also a bit sweeter than PG, but it's also a lot thicker. PG also carries flavors better than VG and takes less time to steep, so there are trade-offs. Some people can't tolerate a lot of PG (sore throats) , some cant tolerate a lot of VG.... so its a matter of what works for you.

I like more VG because I don't care for a lot of throat hit (I quit smoking many years ago), and I like a lot of vapor. The percentage of PG to VG can also effect the flavor of a juice. The same recipe can change significantly depending on the ratio of PG/VG....

Though most people think that the carriers have no flavor, they do, though its very subtle. I just like the way VG tastes as well...it's all subjective.

I have some VG. Can I just add some to my liquid to try it?

Just wish to say, great thread and much oblidged for the helpful youtube vids and useful info.

I tried a non-grooved 1/8 ceramic in my new ac9 and it seemed to work ok but I just can't grow accustomed to the airy draw of that 1.5mm airhole. Last night I ordered the 1.2mm tighter draw cap and a couple maintenance packs to get that new top seal, the leaking through the connector was driving me nuts.

Meanwhile, Friday I received an rsst from Captivape with pre-drilled 1.2mm airhole. I set it up yesterday with a 1/8 " grooved ceramic, 30awg kanthal for 1.8Ω and I gotta say, I'm very impressed. I chose to forego the cheesecloth method and just annealed the wire on the provari and then wrapped as tight as I could manage. It's wicking fantastic and taste keeps improving although not yet on a par taste-wise with my IGO-L using 30awg and 3mm silica that I got from some german bloke via ebay. So far I've put about 3ml through the rsst/ceramic.

Anyway, quite impressed with the wick and the chinese clone. Some of the best vapor production I've had yet. I've noticed a small leak on the 510 connector, just a small drop and not near as bad as the ac9 but overall, a nice setup.

Can't wait to try a 1.0Ω or lower on my new natural mechanical.

Thanks again for the great information.

cheers

I remember someone mentioned he was vaping "flavorless", I think its you nam. Anyways, I was intrigued and tried a 50/50 at 10%nic a couple of weeks ago. Really nice, and true, its not really flavorless. It feels good to mute the flavor once in a while...

Good to hear things are working well for you....nice wrap job! You will notice that the wick will keep improving through the first tankful or so...after that, it will be pretty trouble-free & consistent.

Some of the RSSTs leak juice through the 510 connector....I have three of them & two leaked a little, but there's an easy fix; get a roll of Teflon tape (available in the plumbing section of any hardware store) and do a few wraps on the treads of the center post (top & bottom) and also on the threads of the positive post (leave the tip free or the positive post won't work).
It wont leak again. BTW - this works on the AC9 too.

One more thing; you might want to trim a little off the top of your wick, its very easy to accidentally snap the wick with the top cap when they are that long (trust me, I know). . Make it roughly even with the top of the positive post, or just a bit lower...a set of side-cutters (wire cutters) make it easy; just snip & it's done.

Have fun.

If anyone has a few FC-2000 ceramic 1/8" wicks (from the new channeled batch) they don't need/aren't using feel free to PM me and I'll buy a few off of you. I originally bought some of the 7/64 wicks from DV but there was an advertising mistake (they weren't actually channeled) and I had to return them so now I'm looking to get some of the 1/8 channeled wicks instead. DV says it'll be 2-3 more weeks before they get more wicks in and supposedly the Tank ECig wicks are old stock and not channeled so no luck there either.

Thanks for the good tips. I will cut the wick a bit tomorrow and try the teflon tape on the rsst. I only have one small drop on my battery connector after a day of vaping but I'm picky enough to want it perfect. Will be a good idea for my ac9 also but I'm tempted to hold off and see if the the newer bushing they're shipping will fix it. I'll probably do the top and bottom of the center post regardless.

Indeed, the flavor has really come up to par today... almosy finished my second tank full. I'm loving this setup.

i read a lot of pages on this thread and had a question. zap 2.1 + provari user.

i've been doing the heat anealing method, letting my provari time out (15s) a dozen times and then wrapping the supplied kanthal around my ceramic wick. however, holding it taut with my hand wasn't good enough as I could still adjust the coils. It just wasn't tight enough.

would it be safe to use some kind of pliers to have a firm grip on the kanthal while coiling? if so, what exactly should I get?

thanks in advance.

@dsmooch I'm not 100% sure. Got the z-atty v2.1 which came with ceramic wicks and whatever kanthal they supplied. my first rba and spent a good 3 hours yesterday rebuilding coils. good practice, but want to get better.

I do realize that you'll lose the ability to feel the optimum max tension, but wouldn't it be worth the risk to get a tightly wound coil?

I think you're more likely to snap a wick trying to wrap the coil with pliers, since you lose the feeling that working with your fingers provides. The ceramics are delicate. :2c:

oh wow theyre already out there...
I think they went up to 30g with these... Sure u need it tight but with minimum risk. That said, you'll have to snap some eventually to get a good feel of the max tension :)
No pliers will remove the spring out of a wire that is not annealed nor will it replace a good wrapping technique.
if annealed right you shouldn't have problems with wrapping the 30g directly. A couple a pages back vapdivr posted a vid.. pay attention to how he's maintaining the tension while wrapping. I wouldn't drag you into a hot wrap right now...
good luck!

:toast: Vapdivr for starting this thread, the slotted ceramic wicks and the awsome advice from all of you is priceless. Superior flavor comes with the time to get it right, the vapor production is equal to the s.s., how much better is the bd13? S.S. is going to be a thing of the past as long as the ceramic's are available.....IMO. Thanx again all.

P.S. Ill be sticking around, i thought the bd13 stuff was some sort of ceramic tubing, it was floating around for some time a while back and is pricey. I did a quick search but could not find any 411, if any body does, count me in for a share, to experiment.

Hey dude, pretty sure the 1/8 is the right fit for the ZAP if you take out the insulator in the earlier version
