While we are sort of on the subject of misrepresentation, has anyone here thought about the blatant lie that is cigarettes? A cigarette by definition is "A thin cylinder of finely cut tobacco rolled in paper for smoking." (emphasis my own)
So why are they even allowed to call analogs cigarettes when they have 4,000 other ingredients?

This may seem like a moot point to post on a board where most of us have quit entirely, but I have this running theory (based on anecdotal evidence, of course) that we would not be seeing the cancer rate skyrocket if we had actually been smoking pure tobacco this whole time.

If anyone here has ever smoked fresh pure tobacco rolled for any length of time (filtered or not) you probably know the difference.

When I switched from box cigs to fresh cut I felt better.

Having switched from fresh cut to vaping I feel glorious.

P.S. Those ready to roll packs from the convenience store don't count.

TL;DR - To heck with the FDA

I've been vaping for a few days, lit a cigarette today and grossed me out so bad I threw it out. And that was a Pall Mall, mind you, I used to think those were the best things ever. Not anymore. A few thoughts..Cigarettes in my opinion are actually a kind of fluke, an aberration. Until the early 20th century, tobacco was consumed in various ways, but in MUCH purer form. For example, look at tobacco consumption in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. There was nasal dry snuff, (which I actually enjoy), chewing tobacco, & in the 19th century, pipe smoking and cigar smoking was fairly routine by the last half of the 19th century. Pipe tobacco & cigar tobacco smoke was NOT meant to be inhaled, merely retro-haled, puffed, & enjoyed. Granted that wasn't totally safe either but compared to cigarettes, WAY much more so I'd argue. Then I guess people figured out you could roll much smaller version of cigars which took less time & were more convenient & soon they took off & went to the masses & cigarettes went corporate by the early 20th century. Early cigarettes were mostly just tobacco in rolled paper, but later on, many many additives and chemicals were added, which in addition to the tar, are known to be carcinogenic. Bottom line, as someone who smoked cigarettes, I think compared to the more original forms of tobacco smoking like pipes and cigars, cigarettes are nasty and way worse. Vaping can NOT in any way be equated to tobacco. There is NO tobacco in vaping. The act of smoking is and inhaling the ejuice containing nicotine is the only similarity. So no matter how hard the FDA tries they cannot rationally call vaping a tobacco activity.

Ok, well, when they start adding arsenic and acetone to cereal, you just let me know.

But seriously, the point is that the FDA cares not about our health. It is an agency and as an agency it strives mainly to keep itself alive and funded.

(meant as a reply to stevegmu)

I mean I support the FDA regulating medications and such, and making sure medications and drugs are safe, but vaping is simply not related to tobacco products at ALL. The FDA has gone way overboard in recent years.

Organic rice baby cereal, rice breakfast cereals, brown rice, white rice—new tests by Consumer Reports have found that those and other types of rice products on grocery shelves contain arsenic, many at worrisome levels

Arsenic In Your Food Investigated - Consumer Reports

According to Warner, half the global supply comes from China, which is not known for its achievements in food safety, and are manufactured out of sources like “sorbitol, sheep grease, acetone, and coal tar chemicals.” If Corn Flakes have anything that could be called “soul,” it’s probably not in the vitamin spray.

Ok, Ok, I gotcha buddy.

I have a much longer discussion on the finer points of the "global economy" brewing in me, but that's for another day on another forum.

What I am trying to illustrate here is that at some point cigarettes stopped being cigarettes (maybe after the thousandth chemical addition, or maybe just at the end when they went all 4,000 chemicals and FSC Firesafe on us) and the FDA doesn't give a damn about it.

These guys are not acting in the interest of the public good. Sure, once in a while they publish a story about how they found this or that in something, but looking back now, aren't you just in the least bit jaded about these "studies" they make?

The 4000 chemicals in cigarettes is a bit of a joke, when you consider most everything has 1000's and 1000's of chemicals. A German study of bottled water a few years ago found 20000 chemicals in bottled water. Has anyone done a mass spectrometry test of e-liquids?

Cigarettes stopped being cigarettes when they became manufactured...
Most people in government are just there to collect a paycheck...

Cigarettes have many of the same ingredients e-liquid has...

Why?
The FDA does a horrible job "regulating" medicine.
They dont care if it's safe or not.
They will approve arsenic if you pay them enough.

Someone is selling vegan mayonnaise. The FDA says they can't call it mayonnaise because it doesn't contain eggs.

But they will still classify my Protank and bottle of flavored VG as tobacco products.

FDA Wages War on Vegan Mayo

I for one am Glad that the FDA going after this "Fake" Mayonnaise.

I tried vaping it in a Subtank with a .15 Ohms coil and it Tasted Terrible.

You didn't add flavoring? Try adding 10% TFA strawberry. It's much tastier.

If the FDA has its way, and you can count on them trying, anything that goes to your lips and vaporizes will be Deemed a tobacco related product. The e-liuqid won't type even matter.

Only when presented (sold) as ejuice.

Vegetable glycerine and propylene glycol are not exclusive to ejuice.

Ejuice probably accounts for less than 1% of VG and PG sales.

They can't and won't classify VG and PG as tobacco products unless presented as such.

The automotive industry alone uses more PG in a year than ejuice makers will use in 2 decades.
