Some thing that really has nothing to do with e-cigs, but I lived in the Philippines for 5 years after retiring from flying. That was 2 1/2 years ago.

Anyway, I used to buy Camel Filters for $6.50 a carton, and Marlboro Reds for $8.50 a carton (made in the Philippines under license) on the local economy. Filipino branded cigarettes were as cheap as $3 a carton.

I only bring this up because at those cheap prices, there was no incentive for me to stop ... other than the fact that it was slowly killing me in the process.

Anyway, right now I really [want] to stop the cigarettes, but I [don't want] to stop getting nicotine since I am very much addicted to it. (like it or not ... just a fact of life).

Ron,

Back in the day (many MANY years ago) when I was making patrols, we would order our cigarettes from the ships recreation committee. They would pick up or order and deliver them to us before we went to sea. The cost was $1.10 per carton ... yes per carton NOT pack ... $1.00 was the cost of the cigarettes, and $0.10 went to the rec committee. Ahhhhh the good old days

As far as cigar sized batteries go... The Joye ego-C twist is a good opition, also the iTaste VV. These are variable voltage devices and I would recommend at least starting with a VV option if you don't get a device with VW. If you go for VW you might add some size to your device but the payout for having VW is worth it. Not sure if you have heard of it, but the MVP v2 is a variable wattage device that is about the same size as a pack of cigarettes. If you were into the box shaped batteries, that would be a good option. There's so many options, the only thing I can advise is get something that will be a solid device for you for a while. Youtube is a great resource for vape info. Cheers!

I was a 2 pack a day smoker and I tried several types of ecigs that looked like cigarettes and they didn't cut it. I went back to the cigs. I finally got a EGO sized battery and kanger evod tanks and that let me lay down the cigs for good. I now use those big "light saber" style devices. I never did find a juice that tasted like smoking a cigarette. I did find that some "tobacco" juices that tasted like raw tobacco. It was like working in the fields cutting and spiking tobacco. I am going into my 8th month since I had a tobacco cig.I now use juice flavors that are taste I enjoy. Grape, redbull, smarties, snickers. You might look into the juices that use Whole Tobacco Akiloids (WTA)Go luck in your quest.

PS I did use 24 mg nicotine juice for the first few weeks. I now use 12 mg of nicotine , but always one with 18 mg nicotine juice, to stop the "cravings".

I was a more than a pack a day smoker for over 50 years. I too thought I wanted something that tasted like my beloved smokes. It didn't take long for this old man to figure out that was NOT what I really wanted at all. Not to mention that those little cig-a-like rigs just look silly dangling out of your mouth. You want a real man's rig, something that will give you that blast of vapor to satisfy those smoking urges. For starters, get something like an Innokin Itaste VV/VW 3 kit and some tobacco flavored juices (maybe) and get your vape on. If you're serious about getting off of the Death Sticks, don't dilly-dally around and be damned what it looks like.

My friend wellcome to ECF.
First of all any device with proper liquid will bring you near that e-cig you did not like.
The matter is choosing e-liquid you would like. And when you enjoy your liquid, you should want better of it. Leaving the stinkies and vaping is such a beauty that you will not care the size or seem.
You should acknowledge that we are addicted to nicotine not the brand of tobacco. When you are out of your brand you smoke whatever you find even one you detest because of nicotine need. so it is same with e-cigs. of course there are brands passable for you but the nic level will have you decide quit or not.
What I should suggest is to get a beginner kit with a spare everything. begin to enjoy healthy present e-cig is giving you. Than you will have problems and we are here to solve them.
good decision to quit. I did not intend to quit. and I quit with damnedest devices clones of clones. Now I enjoy evic a x8 carto tank or vivi nova on. and dont give a dame to what it looks like to other people. I enjoy my friend hell with others.
Only dont forget to have sppares and buy a little more up nic level you chose for yourself. 24mg/ml would be my suggestion. If it is too high you can dilute with vegetable glycerin.(just be sure it is vegetable glycerin and pharma type at its best)

Something along the lines of this is just the ticket^^^^^
I'm about your age, I'm 62. I really wanted at first to have something that looked like a regular smoke.
I tried the disposables, and for about a week they kept me off of the cigs. Just barely though.
Then I found this place and realized there was another world of vaping compared to the stuff they sell in local corner stores.

I then ordered me a Kanger Evod starter kit. It's about the same size as the Vision that people are pointing you to.
The difference is night and day. From my first hit I was sold. I was over wanting it to look like a cig.
The thing drops right in your shirt pocket. Gives me a real nice throat hit, big cloud of vapor and a nice dose of nicotine.

Welcome to ECF, good luck and thanks for your service.

Ron,

I remember shen I was a youngin, I paid 29 cent a pack for smokes. They started going up as did everything else.
I said if smokes ever get to a dollar I'm quitting. I didn't.

^^^^^^ Best advice I`ve seen on this thread.

You might want to read a few pages of "Older folks and vaping" in the General e-smoking discussion section. There`s plenty of long time smokers like us in there that see vaping from a set of values that we can relate to.

I haven't chimed in because I feel I don't yet have either experience nor education to speak on the topic.

With that being said, perhaps an alternative for the larger tube style mods that you don't like the look of would be a JWrap. If they don't happen to have a design that catches your eye, they do offer custom designs as well. So, in regards to the "cigar" look, My thought process led me to creating a graphic based from a photograph of a proportionately sized real cigar.

Just a thought...

Yup, what everyone else said. I'll mention that even if there were such a thing as a cig-a-like that looked like a cigarette and tasted like a cigarette, it won't feel like a cigarette. I tried one of those first expensive look-like-a-cigarette things in 2009. While it was a novel idea and emulated smoking, I was put out by the fact that it was heavier than a cigarette and didn't feel natural to me. Aside from that, it always required dinking around with it, refilling it (often, like every 10 puffs or so), leaking on the atomizer, burnt taste, etc. Tried another kind, a penstyle, not much better. However, some people here actually DID quit with some of those things and progressed to better equipment later. My respectful kudos to those people!

You'll just have to get your mindset ready for a different experience. The great thing about it is that you still get the hand to mouth ritual, you still get to blow clouds, and if you stick with it, you will love the fact that you no longer have ashtray mouth, you don't smell smoky to other people, your house and car won't smell, and it really is cheaper after you get your setups and juice right.

I'm 62, female, smoked steadily since I was 18 (messed with them some since age 15), worked my way up to ~2 PAD the last several decades. I told myself when I reached 30 years old, I would quit. Didn't. I told myself when it began to hurt me, I would quit. Didn't. We lie a lot, don't we? I had coughed for years and years, especially in the mornings when I would first light up. Had to clear my throat constantly.

In June of last year, I was coming to the end of a particularly stressful previous 10 months when we had family members living with us out of necessity. They were about to be ready to go. My lighter died. At that time, I decided when all the stress was over, I would try to quit smoking again. So I didn't buy another lighter, because I knew I would continue to buy more cigarettes until the lighter was empty. Great reasoning, huh...? Anyway, I continued to smoke, lighting with matches for about a month. When the company finally left, I smoked for several more days until I ran out of cigarettes. The day I had only a half pack left, I went to the local vape shop and bought my Ego starter kit and juice. I also bought two boxes of Nicorette gum. I've maybe used 10 pieces of that in 6 months. I charged the batts and smoked my last cigarettes. I celebrated Independence Day on July 2, 2013.

I LOVED smoking. Didn't know how I could ever get out of the trap. I knew I could never go cold turkey or just use the usual nicotine replacement stuff. Now I LOVE vaping. There have been those *times*, but I just vaped more or chewed the gum or got busy to take my mind off it. Vaping has worked for me. It's a miracle. If I can do it, anybody can do it. I hope it works for you. You have to want it to, but it's relatively painless. Oh, and I use the big mods now, 2 Provaris and a SID. The Egos got me off cigarettes, but after about a month, I decided I needed more power and longer battery life. I just didn't want to invest a lot of money at first if I couldn't be commited to vaping. Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
