I've found putting a kink in the positive lead a great help so its easier to bend round into a U on the screw to take the second one without it pinging off, I also use them little screwdrivers and put through the holes to hold the coils in place whilst nipping the neg screws up (I am on some seriously nasty medication so have shaky hands sadly)

1.2 is my goal but I can build a coil that is that and an identical coil that is way off, I use a cotton bud with one end cut off as my "anvil" as the stem on the local shop ones is exactly 2mm round :D

I do prefer 32g as its so much easier to work with and get trapped under screw heads, .2 is just sooooo fiddly lol

The ribbon kanthal I bought was specifically for the ss straws hoping that would fix it, oh well back to the drawing board, I suspect the inner core of the mesh might still be live, I will try Doc Daves way of pre burning the mesh before rolling it instead :)

I oxidize my mesh ... deathly afraid of shorts, even I realize that many people use the pulse method, I would rather eer on the side of caution when it comes to the potential for shorts. I can't speak for others, but my ss mesh build are usually dead on straight away on the first test fire, and I never have to mess with it once its set up.

I have been sitting here with the torch and mesh, made a pair of straws from pre flamed mesh, zero conductivity so heres hoping :)

I've got two lengths of ribbon which I have pre nipped under the neg screw, I've taken off the centre screw and going to on one side carefully wrap until I get a decent reading then copy it on the other side, hopefully with your advice and others on this site I can defeat this hurdle :) Do you snip the tank end off the straw at an angle? I saw that on a vid in here and have done that dunno if it is better or not...

Its odd as the KFL now has got something wrong with it, its ohmage is wavering between 1.7 and 3.9 so thats next on the rebuild list sigh

I've been looking on here but am trying to see if there is a kind of ready reckoner for different wraps of different wire gauges as either I wrap too much and get enormous ohms or wrap too little and two microcoils I was practicing with were unable to creep past the 0.1 mark, I have 32, .2 and ribbon kanthal, its just totally annoying and hoping someone has like ballpark figures for avg ohm gain per wrap?

I'm using 28 or 30 gauge wire around an 18 gauge livestock syringe (you can also use a 1/16 drill bit?) With the 30 wrapped at 6-7 I'd get a 1.6-1.8 ohm. Skipped a groove when I got the 28 guage wire, ran 6 wraps and got a .8 ohm, seriously great vape, but my KFL got a bit warm :( .....next 28 gauge was 10 wraps at it hit at 1.0-1.2 ohms. I like my micros, and was doing vertical coils for my PT2's until the KFL showed up.

Damnit, gotta go order Krakens, I am sooooo easy to convince!!!

No, I don't snip the end, I roll my mesh with a 1.5mm silica in the center, and I leave a tail of silica out the bottom end, so that there is no mesh touching the bottom of the tank (more short prevention), and I also feel like it helps with wicking, especially on a low tank. I usually vape my Gennies until basically empty. I make sure that the silica tail is long enough to literally lay on the floor of the tank.

Reading this motivated me to go watch a video. I randomly chose one but wondered if anyone could recommend what I should search for as a beginner. I just watched a double coil on a Trident.

thank you

For building I recommend checking out RipTripper's channel on youtube ... He does videos on builds from Protanks, to drippers, to RBA's. His personality is a little over the top, but he is very good at rebuilding.

And I am glad you feel motivated to learn more about it, just watch, watch, watch, and then when you are ready, give it a try. It really isn't hard. :)

I will go check him out. Thank you.

This started as a way to quit smoking, now I think I spend more money and it is so much fun!

Now I regret not adding a rebuildable to my FT order. Would be nice to have one to practice on that I could use with my Crystal Big Nasty when it comes. (Hope you don't mind me borrowing the nickname) :)

Aurgh! And it's Sunday, so the office isn't open and I don't think they could fit the 3 KFL's and another order of 100ml juice that came from another vendor in my PO Box.......do I take the 15 minute drive through BFE (seriously, it's only 3 lousy miles!), open range cattle and jackrabbits, to the Post office lobby or do I wait for tomorrow?

My package from them was sent registered mail with signature required so you may as well wait, assuming the juice will need to steep anyway.

Mine is registered.........but does all registered mail have to be signed for? Didn't see a "signature required". Errrggggggg!!!!! Wouldn't have helped if I had known yesterday, their office isn't open Saturdays either. The juice is from Nicoticket, one of the peeps on the AiV thread recommended them and FOOB, but I tend to let stuff steep (AiV fan, some of my bottles have been steeping for 2 months+ just cause I have so much of it).

This is worse than waiting for "Live Animal Shipments", at least noises were coming out of the boxes and the postal gals would call ASAP, mostly cause they wanted to see me open the box, and see what kind of crazy creature heads I had bought, lol!

Try the Kayfun Lite, REAL easy build, if you want some help, I can walk you through it!

Mine required a signature, my mailman stopped me in my car because he knew I would want the package.

I'm an AiV fan as well. Wish my ordering could catch up to my vaping so I'd have more in reserve steeping. Right now I'm trying to resist my last bit that is ready. I don't know about Nicoticket FOOB, I have some Be Mine but the website says it will be ready to vape for Valentine's Day.

I can't imagine how the PO feels getting live animals.

Here's a real short vid on wire:

I'm "reckless" cause I went with 28 gauge wire, LOL! But the difference of pre-made heads vs. your own is incredible! Was using PT2's, started making coils on them first and was over whelmed by the nic hit from my 11mg juice! Got used to it.......he, he, he!

I'll check some more of Rip's vids and see if I can find the coils that are good to start with. You can get tiny spools of a few yards of wire, to try out the different gauges, for a few $'s. Drill bits or blunt syringe tips are great for wrapping with, and they indicate the size they are, so no guessing. Then you have your choices on wicking material: mesh, cotton, hemp, etc,.....I went with cotton because I have tons of it in my vet gear.

I hope the nickname "Crystal Big Nasty" spreads like wildfire  ... do you have any Protank coils laying around? I know you said you had no luck with PT's, but if you have some left they are good to practice on ... if you can rebuild a PT coil head, you can rebuild anything.

And welcome to the club my dear, you are officially a "vaper" ... we all started with the intent of just quitting smoking, and we all became addicted to what is now a genuine hobby for most of us. ;-) None of us "need" as much gear as we have, but like you said, its fun, and now its a hobby/obsession :D ... In no time at all you will have your credit card # memorized for spontaneous, gratuitous late night purchases just like Burnie.

Thanks. I'm slowly learning and this helped.

I might want to be blown back! I made the mistake of ordering several juices in a lower nic level thinking I would be able to chain vape more in the evenings without getting too much. Problem is, I get a headache from trying so hard for the throat hit on the lower nic.

Oh, I have made the same mistake ... its better to keep some low nic, and some that is med-high .. I will chain vape the lower nic, and pick up the higher nic when I really get that "I need a cigarette" feeling, those are the times when I NEED the throat hit!
