That's just Sonic, he keeps us honest by stating the obvious. You'll get used to it and likely get around to finding it amusing. The way his mind works is somewhat fascinating at times.

Ah, I see.

Yeah it's hard sometimes to tell intent over text, especially if no emjois or things like "lol" or whatever else are used.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think I know where sonic was coming from with his post.

You were not asking for advice or opinions on the healthiness of vaping (like many do) so it seems out of context.

However, I think some people here seem to frown upon vapers who start vaping but were never technically smokers, just like some smokers who will tell younger non-smokers to never smoke (which is technically good advice).

I think one reason some smokers-turned-vapers frown upon vapers who never smoked is because it makes the whole industry look bad, especially if the new vaper is younger. I kinda feel that way myself, but at the same time since I believe it's a much better bad habit than smoking (at least for now), I would rather they turn to vaping than smoking if they want to pick up a bad habit. No question. But I do see the argument.

Anyhow, I don't want to turn this into a vaping politics thread. Just sayin'.

Nicotine on its own Is actually a very easy habit to kick. The additives they add to tobacco products is what is so hard to give up. One of the reasons vaping helps is you get to keep the visual and tactile habits of smoking.
I sorta disagree. It used to be thought that nicotine was the hardest addictive stuff to quit. But true, research shows nicotine delivered by cigarettes is the toughy.
But nicotine isn't easy to quit. at least that is my experience. Possible, yes. I went from 24 to 2.5 and if I had to (or wanted to) I think I could beat it. But not easy. You should have seen me last year when I left my mods on the kitchen table before work. I didn't have time going in to stop. So I had to wait for lunch, when I Andretti'd to the convenience store for a Logic.
Honestly, if and when I want to quit, I believe I will. And with much more confidence than the other 5 or 6 times from cigs.

And again, I am so grateful for this vaping that allows ME to control my nic intake!

I know I'm kind of derailing my own thread, but I feel this is worth saying.

I don't think telling non-addicted smokers, not to vape at all, is really a good idea. The reason I think this is because yes, while some will not vape or smoke after at all, there will be those (like myself) who enjoy the smoking experience, who will just keep on smoking, and eventually become addicted.

Instead, they should be told to stick with 0 nicotine vaping, because that way those who would otherwise continue smoking, could be doing something far less harmful, but most importantly, be spared a nicotine addiction.

@Twiggy1995, 60 coffin nails in 2 months is definitely an addiction unfortunately.

But addictions have a habit of creeping up on you.

For some people probably, however about 5 years ago, for a month in college I smoked like 2 packs a week for about a month, and then just randomly stopped, and didn't even touch a cig until 2 years later, and that was only a handful, not even a pack.

I guess it depends who you are, some people are more easily addicted than others, I know this as someone with a recovering hard drug addict in the family.

obviously, I decided not to push my luck any farther though, so that's why I am staying away from anything containing nicotine.

Generally the only thing that belongs in your lungs is fresh air

i wonder about the "if you don't smoke, don't start vaping" attitude that most in the vaping world seem to have. People are going to do things that aren't 100% healthful. Always have and ain't gonna stop. Nicotine is a somewhat addictive, mild stimulant and vaping is a pleasurable, relatively harmless activity that may or may not deliver it. Caffeine is a somewhat addictive, mild stimulant generally delivered via somewhat but not terribly harmful means. Sugar is a highly addictive stimulant with many ill side effects. Liquor is, essentially, an addictive poison. For all those other things, what's encouraged is merely moderation & responsibility. Why must it be different than that for vaping? Just PR, as UncleJ said? It may only perpetuate the demonization.

A reasonable view.

As I already stated, in some cases telling someone who enjoys the act of smoking, not to vape, not even with no nicotine, could actually backfire and lead them to continue smoking, which definitely would be no good.

It is much better to be an occasional or "light" vaper, especially with 0 nic, than to be a "light" smoker, especially since most smokers go from being light, to smoking more and more because of more nicotine need.

Vaping is obviously a great tool for smoking cessation, allowing smokers to get their nicotine in a significantly less harmful way (95% less harmful from what I hear), to lower their intake over time, and eventually get off of it all together.

However, I think that if vaping can also prevent people from smoking real tobacco cigarettes, that's good too, and also harm reduction.

Because let's be 100% honest here, everyone (at least in the first world) knows just how extremely bad and addictive smoking is, yet new people still keep taking up smoking everyday. I was 20 when I bought my first pack, and I was well aware of all this, but wanted to do so anyways, and so I did, I knew exactly what I was asking for.

That's just the reality of the situation, there are people who are going to smoke, knowing full well about all the negatives.

I guess it can be compared to safe sex. Yes, abstinence is the best way to never get an STI, or an unwanted pregnancy, but that's not realistic, people in general love sex, and there's nothing inherently wrong with that, and people obviously do it a lot. So realistically the best thing is to teach people to use contraception, and to not just have sex with any random person, especially if they don't know if they may have an STI or not, etc.

Sometimes practical solutions work much better, than virtue signaling, or Nancy Reagan-esque "just say no" garbage.

So while smoking cessation is the main benefit of vaping, for others, it can be smoking prevention, which is also beneficial.
