Just built my GEM for the first time and she's vaping pretty good.

I went easy on it for the first build as far as rta's go ...... 1.2 Ω 28g 2.5mm with some 60/40 juice.

One question: Is the tiny pin that aligns the atomizer head supposed to stay in place ?? Mine fell out the first time I popped the atty portion out and I spent 10 minutes on my knees looking for it. Good thing I caught a glimpse of it falling or I would have assumed mine was missing. I can all ready see that is going to be a pain unless I glue it in place if possible.

Thanks.
Tim

That's weird, mine never fell out. Contact mark about it.

Hi guys, new member here! I've had the bug and WAE now for over a week, first time building my own coils. Currently getting .6 ohms at 19 watts using 28 awg .32 mm! Nice vape and taste so far!
My only issue is filling! Watched Q's videos a few time and using his method I still get some flooding with juice bubbling out of the ACR!
Am I doing something wrong? I'm having to partly strip it and wipe it out after filling.
Apart from that, this is a brilliant bit of kit!
Cheers

.32 mm coil? Whoa that's way too small. You don't have enough wick to stop it from flooding. Try a 2 mm coil.

I'm interested in hearing the answer to that myself because that happens to me also nearly every time I fill. More cotton in the juice channel seems to help.
After I open the AC in the up side down position I take a vape. If I have juice in the AC section I remove my drip tip, turn it up side down again and blow through the air hole a few times while drops of juice drip out into the sink or a napkin. I turn it back up-right, clean the drip tip hole with a swab and reattach my drip tip. Good to go. I usually only loose about five drops of juice.

I believe you have your coil diameter wrong, I use a 2.5mm diameter coil, 28ga Kanthal, but try this:

If you are referring to the GEM, let's say you have a clean atty with the it's build deck completely dry, the water/e-liquid blown out completely. Once you put it back together, make sure your airflow control is completely closed. Turn GEM right side up fill up to 90% or 3.7ml if using a syringe.

Very important, after assembling the GEM, hold the GEM to the light and screw the top cap on until you are able to see about a sheet or two of paper in space between the top cap and the filling deck's gaskets. Once you see that space, in a quick single motion, turn the GEM upside down as you screw the top cap. Proceed to place the GEM upside down on counter for about 10- 15 seconds minimum. Enjoy!

If that does not help, when you re wick your coil only apply enough e-liquid on the coil to make sure it does not burn or do a vapor check (not the whole wick) then apply very little e-liquid on the ends of the wick to keep them in place, the ones that make contact with the vapor chamber. Insert and follow the above mentioned instructions. After doing this take the deck out and check on it, if the wick is not saturated enough, well you know what to do. Under saturating your wick may help in not over flooding the deck or at least until you get the hang of the "fill and flip" method. Hope this helps.

I think he got his measurement converted wrong
Not sure what you mean. He said 28g 0.32 mm. The 0.32mm is the diameter of the wire (0.321 according to steam engine) not the coil he wrapped (which would have been more useful info) :)
...or is that what you meant?!?!

Originally, I thought the same thing you thought, but, maybe he meant 28ga, 3.2 diameter that translates to 1/8 drill bit = 3.18mm rounded to 3.2mm. Who knows we will see as I am curious myself. I agree with your assumption, but he claims that he get a nice vape, maybe more wicking material?

nah. For 28g Kanthal that would be 2 wraps for 0.6 ohm!! He must be using kanthal as he is using the wae to power it so its not Ni for example!

I agree, so who knows. I have never heard of a 0.32mm wick, so I am more curious as to how it got wicked....
Sorry for the confusion, as I said I'm new to rebuilding and this was the information on the first kanthal wire I bought, baring in mind I'm in the UK!
Yes, 0.32 appears to be the size of the wire in 28 gauge! I've wrapped it around a 2mm drill bit 5 wraps! Seems to vary between .6-.8 ohms on the WAE!
Maybe a wider coil with more cotton wick is needed on the Gem?
Thanks for all the replies, I will try MKID's method and report back!
Once again remember I have no coil building experience so this is a learning curve!
Cheers, Ron
