Vap do you have 32 or 34 g wire?

The listing on Ebay when I ordered it said 32 awg. I should be getting around 1.5 ohm with 3 wraps since those who have Kanthal D .20 mm seem to be. That's why I'm questioning whether what I have (and dspin) is actually 32 awg. Maybe it was mislabeled and what we have could be 34 awg... I don't know.

I use the same 32 kanthal A from ebay but my coils on SS wick are 8 wraps. The last one was measured 1.8 ohm and my meter has an internal resistance of .4 ohms so it is really 1.4 ohms. At around .7 ohms per inch it takes a lot of wraps.

I thought that 30 awg Kanthal has resistance of .7 ohms per inch, same with Kanthal D .25mm...

Dspin, here's something you'd probably like to know:

Kanthal A1 32 awg wire has resistance of 1.1 ohm per inch or 13.2 ohm per foot. I just tested one foot of my Kathal and it metered between 14.2 and 14.4 ohm!

I don't think we will get 1.5 ohm with three wraps of this wire... :(
Well there is a way for that too :D
When you prepare your mesh wick, you cut it in L shape, in a way that the part which you oxidise is narrow than the bottom part. This way your coils are... how do I say that? Thinner?

That's an interesting idea, Zu... I wonder how the coil would perform with lesser volume of mesh under it.
Just to be on the same page, I didn't try this.
But I would imagine coil would act the same. Only thing that could make problems with that kind of setup is wicking...

I'm using 0.20mm NiChrome which is quoted as having 34.4ohms per metre or 10.33ohms per foot.

My coil measures 1.5ohms - 3 wraps on one side, 4 on the other.

Not the prettiest coil I admit, but it has worked good for me so far.
Must have put about 15-20ml of juice through it so far :)

Thanks sjmck... It appears that the resistance of my wire is considerably higher than yours yet they are supposed to be nearly identical. It also sounds like everyone reporting using Kanthal D .20 on their Line is able to wrap a 1.5ohm coil easily. I think I might order it to give it a shot, I'm curious... I'm also curious to try D .25 and make a 1.5ohms coil with more wraps. This is the fun part of vaping, it never ends :)

That's kind of my experience too... Is there a way to make it wick faster? Maybe rolling the mesh looser?
My 2 cents: I do my Genisis like Shpaolin does in his videos - turn it upside down and/or sideways for a second or two. Repeat sometimes twice or 3 times, and it makes it wick much better.
Hope this helps.

Dspin try and put multimeter aside and just wrap 3-4 wraps on mesh and power it with 3.7v
That should work really good. There is no need to force it on higher voltage. Not yet anyway :)

I have done that, it is way too weak in hit, vapor and taste. I like a hard hitting hot vape. 3.7 just is not doing it. Will try some nichrome when I get home today. I wouldn't care what the ohm reading is for anything as long as hit and taste is there. Use 24 nic.

Until I can get diff. wire will use it at 3.0 @ 6V. Tastes pretty good with that and some strong flavor juices. I just wanted to get away from stacking batts. Here all along I thought it was the Bulli since I have to use that @ 6V. It's the wire.
