I like your cynical but fair and considerate attitude, Sir or Madam.
I also have a hard time believing anything but am willing to give anything a fair hearing
and the benefit of the doubt.

Surely there are people who act only out of love, but for the most part
people act out of love for money.

Money is meaningless once one has enough; it is the pursuit of love, happiness and memories which become self consuming, rather than the pursuit of more money...

So you are all good with these new restrictions in New Orleans then

This just makes me :lol::lol:

Now I read it but I'd still like a link to the actual legislation. Please don't make me search municode.
Tell me. what are they planning to do for Mardi Gras?
Are they going to temporarily suspend the statute in order to not drive away the thousands of dollars
smokers bring to the French Quarter?

Ou est les bon sens? Je ne comprend pas. Ce est fou!

People eating at McDonalds until they weigh 600lbs... I also saw a site once where a guy removed some of his limbs to gain sympathy from women...

Then there are many people claiming to be disabled who aren't and that
makes the truly disable have a real hard time getting disability insurance from the gub'min.

Well some people are well intentioned but misinformed.

I personally try to distinguish between the snooty false cough and a guy who genuinely wants to help with the info he saw on TV.

This is a refreshing perspective.

It denotes that you generally think the best of people.

I get really tired of reading topics where the word "dumb" and "stupid" to denote other people is used every other paragraph.

People can't "claim" to be disabled. Even a doctor can't disable you. Social Security has it's own guidelines for disability, and it is actually much stricter than most doctors. For instance, people will see somebody blind, or without a leg, and then somebody who "looks" okay, and think they are faking. However, a blind person or a person who has no leg may still be able to work a job in the w/in economy of the US. Somebody w/a disabling chronic pain syndrome probably can't........due to meds and possibly inability to maintain a schedule due to pain ,etc.

I used to be an advocate for people who were disabled, so I know a bit about it.

So, by the way, can you just look at somebody and know they "claim" to be disabled, but really aren't? What are the tell-tale signs? Interested......

Not sure how that applies to a drive through atm.

Sent from my device.
Don't be confused just because I was..I hadn't read back so I didn't know we were talking about only drive throughs.
However, At the drive through ATM and other drive through venues one doesn't just whizz by and do one's business.
One usually has to sit there for quite some time b4 one is able to take care of business.
Isn't having to deal with exhaust fumes enough that we need to add cigarette smoke and/or vapor to the mix?

Yes, I think the statute, as I have read the posting (though not the actual law as in the books)
is RIDICULOUS. But that's only because I believe in self governance and the use of common sense.

As I stated elsewhere in this thread, it is unfortunate that we need laws to keep us all in check.
But if not for those laws we all couldn't live together in a society because entirely too many people just don't care about how their actions
will influence or affect the other guy.

I would prefer to be my own judge and jury, but I would also prefer for the person next to me at a restaurant, park bench, or ATM
not blow cigarette smoke in my face.
Therefore I don't blow my vapor in anybody else's face. But not everybody is like me
and if they were like me I'd be bored.

As a truck driver... if I understand this right... As I'm waiting to get gas or go through a weigh station... or even doing my mandatory 10 hour break...

I cannot vape in my 70'+ long truck. In a single file line, the closest person will be at least 80' of fresh away.

Sent from my device.

Are you saying they've outlawed smoking/vaping at truck stops?
OMG! Now *that's* asking for trouble. It's convoy time!

After 20+ years, Im a contractor now. Some Sergeant Major stopped me on Disney (the main strip on Bagram Air Field, AFG) and scolded me about smoking in designated areas...."and that includes vaping!"

Even in a war zone....smh

Has the service stopped supplying G.I's with smokes?
It's OK for prisoners to smoke but not soldiers in the field?

(OK, smoke can give away your position but if you're on R&R at base you can't smoke/vape?)
What is this world coming to?
I must be getting old.

I was at or local hospital a couple of weeks ago and stepped out side to the parking lot to grab a few hits and when I stepped back in a nurse came up to me and said "Sir there's no smoking on the hospital campus " I in turn pull out my vapor and said "Its vapor not a cigeratte" and she was like "Oh OK thank you" she couldn't say any more about it because the signs posted every where said " No tobacco products allowed on campus" and as of yet Missouri hasn't labled electronic cigerattes as a tobacco product, but still I try to be polite when in public and go outside!

- The military stopped supplying the troops with smokes over 40 years ago.
- You can still smoke on military bases, provided it is in designated areas.

The Social Security guidelines are no joke. I didn't enjoy being face to face with a judge and the woman with the Blue Book of Jobs. I wasn't particularly happy that I needed a lawyer. I wasn't particularly happy that I have a disability. That feeling never goes away. You'd never be able to tell what it is by looking at me, either. This thread is starting to go to bad places, I think.

How about that vaping? Had any good new juices lately?

DC is pretty bad. I went to college in and around DC.

I'm not Czech, but fell in love with the country my first visit. I think they are so free because they lived under oppression for so long and once they won their freedom they won't ever go back.
Prague is old. It is Old Europe, but with modern conveniences- like air-conditioning and deodorant. If Disney were to make a city, it would be Prague. Tourists go there because it hasn't been destroyed and rebuilt due to wars, it is fairly inexpensive as they refuse to adopt the Euro, and the beer is the finest in the world. The Koruna, US Dollar and Euro are the accepted currencies. Vaping is everywhere. I've never seen so many vapers in the wild, and it isn't looked at like smoking at all, in fact it is allowed pretty much everywhere. Vape supplies are sold all over the place. A buddy of mine owns a vape shop, who has a coil builder and mixologist.
The greatest part is they genuinely love Americans. Well, the women are the greatest part...

Cool. Thanks for actually answering my questions. Do you speak the language?
So my theory is right. It's the new found freedom and the large tourist industry.
I do hope it lasts.

When I worked in TV production one of my tasks was re-broadcasting TV from latin America.
This was in the 90's and I remember being impressed with the fact that in Argentina they were going through our (US)
sixties, sexual and cultural revolution, rock&roll and the whole hippie thing.

Of course this was due to the repression of the Pinochet regime during our 60's-70's.
Thus I saw a similar phenomenon when you described your experience in the Czech Republic.
I note a similarity in the former soviet and China, but of course since things haven't truly changed in those places it's still
has long to develop.

My concern though is, is it truly a good thing?
Don't misunderstand me.
I love freedom, freedom of speech,
and I love Rock & Roll..But I also love responsibility.

We should be able to love who, where, and what ever we want
as long as we do it responsibly.

So how do you respond when you are in the middle of an empty parking lot, in a place where vaping is allowed, and someone feels the need to come outside to give you a hard time about it? That's what happened to me. I wasn't imposing on him with my vaping. No, he wanted to "save me" from vaping with a bunch of Antz talking points from all the well known false studies :glare:

How about you show him your leather neck and tell him where to put his or her opinion...?
Sometimes one has to resort to...resorting.

That's nice of you..but since I worked in TV I know that you just can't believe ANYTHING you see on TV
and I'd tell them so. TV, even the news, is about ratings and money. Even PBS, man.
It's all sensationalism in one way or another to get and keep your attention so they can sell you stuff or talk you into donating $$$
