OMG that story teaches us don't use unprotected batteries!
Glad you are OK. Imagine if you were driving...the car could catch fire or have an accident.
The GG is really well made and designed. Imeo, you are amazing.

Thanks a lot friend, I am always trying for the best:):)

Wow Misty, holy smoke!!!! Glad you are oke!!! All I use is protected batties vaping on 6 V, but even then one is not 100% save I guess. For the Slim there is no choice but then again that will be a slim explosion ;-) Happy to hear you are fine.....yes the GG is a beast that handled it the way it should!!! those damn batties, that is our real pain. Take care and have a drink on me!!!

Thanks again guys, i really appreciate your support.

But really guys, I can't tell you enough how much the GG safety holes are to be praised. They made all the difference between safety and injuries. And believe me, the blast was big, and no other PV I know of, would have made it safely. 3 holes on the GG are really needed. Each one of them. And their size is right what is needed too.

Imeo my friend, now I'm a rocket scientist, so if you need anything, I'm ready :D:D:D

Thank you for offering me to repair it, I'll send it to you ASAP.

By the way, I finally managed to open it without a scratch. It took some time since I insisted on only using my bare hands, back and forth, until the joints created by the melting pot inside it finally surrendered. (I would hate to ruin it by a scratch)

I have new pictures that are amazing!

I will post them gradually along with the final pictures of the GG after the first round of clean up.

Final assessment:

The Grant is almost intact. It only needs the plastic isolation pin that is around the center post of the atomizer cap, and the plastic isolation piece that is around the center part of the bottom cap. They simply normally melted at high temperature.

Nothing else ... Not even a scratch!

There's really not much cause for concern on the slim batteries. Firstly, there's only one and the first explosion of a li-ion battery is the most minor one.
Secondly, you are only using one battery, so you would notice it not performing at all, well before it discharges low enough to be a cause for concern. The problem has always been with two or more unprotected batteries used in tandem rather than a single one.

It looks like most of the crud that spewed from the batteries is in the upper end of the Grant.

Seeing that the batteries vented upwards towards their + terminal (as they should have) it makes me wonder if we shouldn't insert them backwards so they vent downwards towards the vent holes in the GG's.

Anyone?

It sounds plausible but how can we be sure?

Any volunteer? :D

Hey, is that just battery guts between the two CR2s or did you have a spacer in there? Sorry I can't remember if the Grant needs a spacer for 6v or not and it looks like a big mass of stuff between the batteries.

Glad you are OK. Thats scary stuff.
