You forgot mine - I obviously can't be the winner because I said he would make it six weeks.

183 what an awesome erosion pattern.jpg

Decided to wander over to the eastern side of Arizona and check out Canyon de Chelly. One of the first things I had to investigate was this awesome erosion pattern. These are very large rocks and if this was caused by fast-moving water, why isn't the whole canyon like this?

1. Good morning treefam. I'm dragging so bad today. I don't watch much tv, but when I do, I watch entire seasons at a time. I was up until 5am doing just that. Still didn't finish the season, but I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer.

Today is my sons 26th birthday. I'm missing him terribly. I hope his cards got to him in time.
:bday: to you and your son!

What series were you watching?

PG&E has assigned a crew to assess the outage.

It's been a long time since I lived in Orygun... and you're in California, right? ... I thought PG&E was an Oregon/Washington company. Is their expansion recent, or have you had them a long time?

187 canyon is even deeper now.jpg

Canyon de Chelly seems to get deeper as I hiked eastward. I'd guess, at this point, it is about 500-600 feet to the bottom.

Fuzzy - PG&E has been here since I was young and I'm over 45 yrs old.

Wow! Guess I just wasn't paying enough attention all those years. Actually, we had two in Orygun: PGE and PG&E, though a lot of people called PGE PGandE too. That's Portland Gas and Electric and Pacific Gas and Electric. There might also have been a Portland General Electric, but I don't think they were a power supplier.

189 600-ft monolith called Spider Rock.jpg

Even farther into the canyon and deeper. This spire is known as Spider Rock.

Good morning. Well, morning, anyways...

Did not sleep real well last night - this damn cold still socked in, although I do feel better than I did 2 days ago.

However, the morning news delivery was very positive!
congrats on the win and I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Argh. The kids have only been up for a couple of hours and have already gotten into trouble three times. :-x When does school start?

Not soon enough I'm sure...
My daughter lives with dad during the school year (for the better school) and they went back Aug 10th (YAY!!)

Thank you Robin. :)

The series was Rome on HBO. Hubby was watching it before he went to bed, I got bored and started watching it and couldn't stop. It's not really a good show, but I was bored..lol.

Trying to roam all over the forum today before getting my tired .... out to do more chores (more on my to-do list than one person can handle) but it seems I just cannot keep up with those SmokTech folks. Oh well...

196 almost a city now.jpg

Even deeper into the canyon, there's another Anasazi ruin. Just think about when these people lived there... protected from the elements by the overhanging rock, near a water source, relative security from potential enemies... then one day the entire race just abandons their cities for over a hundred miles around and disappears.

keeping up with that thread is more a state of mind than anything else
So it would seem. I guess I am still laboring under the mis-assumption that there might be worthwhile content to be read, but it seems the entire thread is spam, so I'll play along... :)

231 this is called Montezumas Castle.jpg

South of Flagstaff, headed toward Phoenix, I found this place. Probably not Anasazi, but more likely Pueblo Indians. The early archaeologists named it Montezuma's Castle, but maybe they did not know at the time that Montezuma never got this far north.
