We should get along well fuzzy,,, anyone who loves and respects animals is a big step in the right direction... Too many people treat animals like a pair of shoes, that you get rid of when they get old... We have two dogs and three cats and will have them forever, and given the chance to rescue more,,,, well you now know who to call cause we could never turn down an animal that needs a home.
We have a similar problem, which is perhaps why we end up with more animals than I can afford to support, but we always find a way.
I have this attitude about animals:
I don't OWN them. We have mutually chosen to live together. I give the cows hay, water, and shelter from bad weather. They give me milk and beautiful babies. The horses used to let me ride them, but I haven't been on one for years, so they are now just pasture bums. The dogs and cats could leave if they so chose, but they stay here because I feed them and give them shelter. Hey, they could probably get that down the road somewhere, but we care about them, so they care about us and they have chosen to take on duties of their own... the dogs keep predators away from the chickens and the cats keep the mouse population down. They don't have to do that. Nor are they required to come in and snuggle us. They choose to. Therefore, they are welcome members of our family. Xena has taken on a task that an older (now gone) cat used to do... she follows me around and if I get too overworked, she yells at me and tells me to go in the house. It looks like she is asking me to let her in, but once I am in, she goes back out alone, so obviously the whole game was to get me to stop working before I hurt myself. I love this about our little people.
Well, TreeFam, it's getting on toward time for the oldt phart to go to bed, so I'll put the sun behind the horizon one more time and call it a day (why do we call it a "day" when it is now "night"?).
