Missed being on yesterday. Was just a looong day for me. Ortho Dr said I fractured the last bone on the left side all the way across ( 5th metatarsal). Good thing was that it did not completely break in half and should heal fine with time. so I was upgraded on footwear for the next month and go back to him on Nov 17th.

You're right, Tiggs: this was completely out of my hands. One company does a credit check--merely as a formality, as no actual credit is extended--and uses one of the Reporting companies (as just about every business in the U.S. does). The reporting company is required by law to maintain records of the credit check for two years. A breach occurs (likely due to poor security management, I'm finding out) and--voila!--someone now likely has all my personal information, including driver's license and SSN. The company was nice enough to send me a letter, "sincerely" apologizing for "any inconvenience," advising me to keep a close eye on my finances and credit (for how long? Oh, the rest of my life? Thanks...), and offering two years of their own ID-theft protection service (because SSNs expire every two years, didn't you know?).

Sorry I am so late starting the day here, but after morning chores, we found a hen had hatched about a dozen adorable babies in the lilac hedge around the garden and we have about 10 really nasty roosters that will jump her if she comes out, which would scatter the babies and some (or all) would end up dying if the mommy ran off in self-preservation. So Lannie and I killed four roosters and cut them up (and will do more tomorrow). Then I was late at other tasks, so I had to jump in the truck and go to Bison for dog meat (beef scraps to feed our dogs), which was 85 miles round trip, and I am only now getting to the computer. Puff pant...

How can I put this . . . "Profiling" . . .

What does that mean?

I guess I should just not ask questions because I do not understand what either of you are implying.

Even though I am not one or two of those, there are programs that I can download to do my work if I so desired. Just by posting on the internet, makes you vulnerable. I can take any post, if wanted to, and get your... well going to change the words, just in case. Your computer info, and then go backwards. With that information I could get your location, and with that address; and after that more, or all. Being less than all giving out information. If you do not want to be seen or found, then do not do any internet activity.

That is true... but people take those risks of their own free will.

In this instance, however, the "victim" was a company with whom most people never interact or even do business. Yet, they have all of the information necessary to ruin lives if it gets in the wrong hands. I was one of approximately 15 million people--I'd hazard to guess that fewer than 1% have ever had any direct contact with the company. Yet, in order to function at the most basic level in our society, your information is in their servers just waiting to be taken. You have never explicitly given your personal agreement that they track you, yet there you are. Do we benefit from the service that the company provides? Often yes: buying a new TV, house, or car? How about signing up for a new service, such as cell phone, cable, or even electricity? It all goes through the company's system and is stored for two years (or more). Someone comes along, takes a bite of the data--and all the company is say, "Sorry."

As was said..some people never used the internet and they got hacked from insurance companies/SS office/credit cards/etc........so it doesn't matter if you do or not.....
