PIF to @Slowone2

Waiting on the handyman to come and put some water seal on the basement wall, he was supposed to come yesterday but I had to work so now it's today or tomorrow, he hasn't answered my text asking him when he'll show up. I guess I'll try to get some other things done while I wait.

wow..can't believe it's already the 13th of the month!! No wonder my acorn gathering is at a frenzy!
Agree or dis-agree?? Seems to me that when the weather is cooler...as in Spring and Fall..Time seems to go by faster...then when it's 100 degrees like this past Summer..and we were all melting.!
@Shawn Hoefer ...give me a second...I'm counting hats...lessee...River rat (guide) , Poetry Cowboy...Historian...then a quick change in the nearest telephone booth to vape Man! , a short thot on Suspender Man:rolleyes:, ..then on to Tobogan Man/downhill racer ("the day went downhill from there....") ... ...Geek Squad (name of a computer tech place here)..and kindergarten babysitter:D ..Trader Vic ..Mechanic .....and Tow Truck Driver (thinking you maybe towed her back??)
Mister..you sure wear alot of hats!

@jpf880 ....hope you get some sleep soon.

Congratz to our fellow winners @LynnNC @Amlowe and @olscratchy!
@LynnNC ..somebody can jack my phone anytime if they are going to stealth post pics of my cuties on there!

Back to gathering acorns folks! Have a good day everyone.

Hey there Katz :) I've been told I look a LOT like this person or that person (so sorry for them!) I'm just a big girl of German heritage (built very much like my Dad and his Mom and her Dad....)

I am a Midwestern girl - ancestors predominately from PA and OH.... I may have twin sistahs from different mistahs. Who knows!

...yep..I knew it! I'm first gen American..German parents...Born and raised in Ohio...Dad got here in the early 50's and stayed with some distant relations in Michigan and Ohio. The story goes that my Dad's Grandparents were going to buy tickets for the boat ride to America way back in the 20's or 30's ...but that Great Grandpa was a bit of a lush..and that on the way to buy the tickets, GreatGrandpa spent all the ticket money on booze and gambling.
I think some of the distant relations managed over, but don't know much about them. Ma met some distant cousins in Florida once..We didn't know she even had any here. I find geneology fascinating.
@FuzzyThunderbear ..I know that's not a great subject for folks who don't know much about their birth families. I had the pleasure..well..not so sure now..of seeing a friend re-unite with their birth families..In that case , everyone agreed that it was prob a good thing she/he was adopted at birth or they may not have survived ...but it is uncanny...My friend and their long lost sibling have the same mannerisms ...Now tell me, is that hereditary??
Hiroshima ferry .jpg

I need to scan some more pics folks...This pic is labeled.."The boat ride to Hiroshima,Japan" ..oooookay ..I have no memory of it, though I know I also took a Bullet Train there 35 yrs ago ...:pop:

Who says it's cooler? Sure, the temperature today is a little lower than yesterday--but the humidity is up. It's not even 10 am here and the "RealFeel" is nearly 90. Ugh.

yes..I can hear that in your "voice" .. ...so..time is still going slower for you then??

@Amlowe...I am so sorry about your drip tip :( ..but theere will be others...
That's a very interesting conjecture....that you have to give up something to get something...just becuz you got a new shiney. If so, next time you win or get something good...offer something back in return. But hey...YOU ..DID offer something...even before you won the new shiney...REMEMBER??!:w00t: So. It could also be conjectured that you won the new shiney BECUZ you unselfishly offered up something of value to you. Taken in that light  ..I'd say you were just so excited that you tripped or stumbled. It was an accident...in other words.:2c:;) :)

..and I really don't mean to sound flip or unsympathetic @CountBoredom ..that's just my lack of social skills o_O ...Raised in the mid west I put up with all that crappy humidity and hot Summers. (We didn't have A/C either. Okinawa's Summer weather is a peach...if you don't mind being steamed alive.
At least I have a swamp cooler here now. Doesn't work at all once the temp gets above 100* outside thou..which it does..alot in summer.
So they thot "a cool breeze off the ocean" would cool down the coastal cities??? Were they from Monterey or the City (SF)??! *shaking head*
If you love ice tea, lemonade or Long Island Ice...please have one for me.
Here's one for you,too @liblue1 ..have one with ,Count

@KatzWh1skers - If I've tagged some of my family history correctly, my great-great-great-grandfather came over in the 1850's. On my paternal grandmother's side, I used to have a booklet that traced that side back to France and Germany to the 1600's. Can't find that flipping booklet any more :(

I really don't know much family history - I've guessed most of it as I can by tracking through Ancestry. My Dad's side of the family is mostly from where I now live, and we have a decent library here - I just need to go spend some time in our geneology archives to see what I can dig up. Dad's father was basically orphaned after his mother died when he was about 10. I've found the graves of my great-grandparents, but there's no one left to ask any questions anymore.

I got real interested when my Mom died in 2006. Did a lot of digging. Then, my Dad passed in 2009 and I dug around some more. Mom's brother passed away in 2013, and I'd asked a little, but he didn't know a whole lot. Just that his Dad had a number of brothers and sisters. Many of them were farmers, and two of them had adjacent farms. The wives couldn't stand each other so my Mom's family would alternate Sunday dinner between the two other brothers' homes :D

yeah..that is SO true...my Mom's in her 80's now..and she says it all the time.."there's no one left to ask any questions anymore." I wasn't that interested in the family story much growing up. My parents both grew up in wartime Germany..Mom was 8 when it started..so they never wanted to talk about it. I'm thankful becuz my Dad's older sister (all gone now) was a bit of a historian..and she dictated a small book's worth of stories to her daughter, my cousin. There's stuff in there I never knew!! As I've mentioned in an earlier post, I would not have believed that "mannerisms" were hereditary..but I saw it wit me own eyes..when my friend got to meet their long lost sibling for the first time. Genetics and ancestry are cool. Just sad..because my brothers don't have much to pass on to their children about their heritage. Everyone who can answer those questions...is gone. I make it a point to have Mom "tell me a story" from her childhood whenever I see her now.:)
