I made my first cooked red cabbage from scratch tonight ...
Used my Ma's recipe ... She gave it to me over the phone yesterday.
Unfortch ..her recipes go kinda like ..pinch o this..pinch of that ..and flavor to taste....
Not a bad first attempt tho, I think:rolleyes:
Yes ...it is sometimes the bane of first generations that we are spoilt..never had to cook . Sad thing being I struggle to replicate the taste of ma's cookin'.
This was the year that I finally managed to convince my wife to try my mother's recipe for red cabbage. She'd been reluctant to try it because she didn't like cabbage recipes from her parents' German side. We've had it three times since Thanksgiving. :)

So wife took the little one to the doctor. Doc says its a stomach bug, to keep giving her Tylenol and motrin for the fever and keep giving fluids. I hope she gets better soon. On a positive note, only 45 minutes left until my work day is over and my 3 day weekend starts.

I had planned to spend new years with friends in another town,
but choose not to travel with these allergies acting up.
I'm still stuffy and it's hard to breathe.
Now what do I do? Is it neccessary to do anything at all?
Good news is that we are getting heavy rains tomarrow to take the pollen and dust out of the air.

Did you ever get the wicking worked out on your Crius?
Not quite, but will be playin' with that this weekend. ;)

Well - "MoringNite" - "Tree People" . . .

. . . Start of a NEW DAY . . .

Time for - COFFEE

YES - COFFEE - TIME . . .

Especially since I just woke up a little over an hour ago . . . AND - How wonderful it was to finally sleep a whole night long - just over 8 hours without waking up once until it was "morning" . . . :D

Okay - So . . .

Is that why you're called Uncle? ;)

Actually, although it would have been a good reason for selecting that as an ECF "Handle/Nickname" - NO, that is not why I selected "Uncle" . . . Long Story - Short, "My" ECF Handle/Nickname came about after I was already participating in a few discussions on someone else's New Member's Thread and then started/continued on "Mine" . . . AND - "Uncle" is supposed to represent that Older Single Male "Family" Member that Ya' either thought was just plain crazy & off the wall, or was so outspoken and direct that he always surprised Ya' by what he said, and/or was so understanding that Ya' felt "You" could tell them anything and looked up to them for advice . . . Plus it was much better than taking the "Handle/Nickname" that I previously used on other discussion boards in the early days of the internet and the Alt groups . . . Just Sayin' . . .

Not happy about it but there were worse possibilities.

Good for "You" taking a positive outlook on this situation . . . Maybe with "Your" determination and tenacity to get the J-O-B done right, once "You" are here in the states again "You" can make other arrangements for s different position that suites Ya' better . . . Just a thought . . . ;)

FYI: Ya' missing what this post number is for the contest . . . Ya' might want to go back and edit it and any others to make sure . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;)

AS - For the discussion about what Foods people eat for the NEW YEAR . . . Well, I don't remember exactly what we had for dinner to celebrate as a child because it was always different . . . However, as an Adult - It was always going out for New Year's Day Brunch and then for dinner . . . AND - It also depended on who I was going to dinner with or invited over to dine with . . . Also where I was living at the time . . . New Year's Eve or Day Dinner could be a Standing Rib Roast w/ Yorkshire pudding and all the fixings; a Ham w/Black eye peas, Collards, etc.; Pork & Sauerkraut/Red Cabbage w/ potatoes, and/or what I always usually made was a Pork Roast w/Chunky Apple sauce/Red Cinnamon Apples, except when I was "married" to a Cuban then it was - Pulled Pork, Yellow Rice, Black Beans, and Plantains (both Tostones & Maduros) along with "Pudin de Ban" (made with raisins & nuts) and topped off with real Caramel - which is one of "My" favorite meals of all time and really wish I could have tomorrow . . . Just Sayin' . . .

on "Your" 3rd Anniversary of Sobriety . . .

Last, but surely not the least for today - Before EVERYONE gets going, I just want to say that I hope no matter what "Your" plans are for Today/Tonight/Tomorrow - be it going out on the town or staying home - that each and everyone of "You" Will PLAY NICE & STAY SAFE . . .

Also, I want to Wish "You" & "Yours" . . .

A NEW YEAR FILLED with . . .
HOPE, GOOD HEALTH, JOY & HAPPINESS
PROSPERITY, PEACE, & LOVE . . .

NOW - With all that said - Guess it is time to check out some of the other ECF neighborhoods too . . .

Good morning everyone.
one of the things I liked so much about Alaska, ...no snakes ...and no poison ivy!
Katz, ya forgot to mention the Alaska mosquitoes, that are big enough to carry off your first-born. :)

Here's a pic of my horse, and Roadtrip you're right, both pics are taken South of San Antonio; you know your mesquite trees. Slowone2, The good thing about rattlesnakes is that they warn you before they strike. My daughter in law got bitten by a little copperhead in her driveway just for getting too close, no warning!

All this talk of snakes.... I remember discovering a four-foot rattler in my radish patch when I was about 10 years-old. I dropped my watering can and ran inside. One of our cats, who had just given birth to a litter of kittens, waited it out when it slithered into a rock pile and then killed when it exited. I'm not sure how she learned the trick, but she tore out a big chunk just behind the head--we found it that way the next day right below where the cat had been sitting.
