Some scary news right now. One of the local military bases is on LOCKDOWN, due to an active shooter! It's happening at Lackland AFB, and it seems I remember someone from the Tree family had a son training there............ Due to the lockdown, very few details coming out, it doesn't sound like the threat has been neutralized and that there may be casualties. :(

Looks like the threat is over, two casualties. It appears it was a murder/suicide and they have been clearing the base to make sure there were no other casualties or injuries. Scary situation and sad about the losses, but it least it's over.

Afternoon treefam. I'm in the middle of this move so I decided not to be entering any contests until I get our new permanent address. Not really posting anywhere cause my neck pain seems to have gotten worse and my hands don't want to do anything. I'm still getting on here and reading though. I figured I should jump on and let you all know everything is good for me. Turns out one of piggys hotels is in or near Santa Cruz. She has been there all week and wants us to go there for a vacation at some point. That got me wondering if any of the tree peeps are close to there?

Hugs and prayers to all my treefam.

There seems to be a lot of sirens going up the street today......I am rethinking my trip to the store..........it's busy with traffic and I have a bad feeling about something going down...........
I hope I am not just being overly paranoid about things.........

Sunshine this morning and only a light breeze after a whole week of nasty winds. Guess I'll go out and clean up the fallen branches today...

Welcome to ECF @Shimmerkatie Check out this neat contest thread where you can win some really good e-liquid just by chatting with the great folks who hang out here (see complete "rules" on page 1). Lots of fun here!

I'm late to ECF today--had some school things in the morning that my wife and I had forgotten about and then had to run out to get my property tax payment in the mail... Whew!

Some scary news right now. One of the local military bases is on LOCKDOWN, due to an active shooter!
Sad news, that. The news here last night reported that the bases in San Diego have gone into lock down 11 times this year alone for threats and other security issues (reported shooters and/or suspicious packages).

Turns out one of piggys hotels is in or near Santa Cruz. She has been there all week and wants us to go there for a vacation at some point. That got me wondering if any of the tree peeps are close to there?
I think the closest one would be @rangerrobin...

Well now it's my turn..........Fuzzy is here so I think that means I have to go........
Turn about is fair play! ;)

A few years ago, I worked at Randolph AFB, which is basically in the same city as Lackland AFB, where the incident happened today, and is part of the JBSA. I worked on/off base there for about 3.5 years and I think we only had two "real" lockdowns and one quarantine. There were more lockdowns but they were part of training drills. I will say that base was always well prepared for just about any eventuality. There were drills very regularly, ranging from fire, tornado, hazardous material, etc, but the active shooter drills were most frequent. We did have some mystery drills, the security teams running the drills, gave me kind of a fishy answer. I later learned were terrorist drills.

I have to say that I hate the word "lockdown." While it makes sense for prisons, and even military bases, what does it say about our society when we apply a word to such things as schools?

Just got back to the hotel and saw it on the net (first chance I had for surfing today). Only seen one short article - they didn't say what part of base or what building it was in.
That's where my son is at. Sent him an email (still waiting to here back) - hoping it wasn't anyone he knew.
