Just got an email back from my son. Happened in the building where his classes are held but his unit was out at the range when it happened. Word is that a student killed a Colonel - don't know if that's accurate or not as rumors always fly wild.

It was in Forbes Hall, a large training facility. They are not releasing details of why, how, etc. yet, but word is that an airman shot his Commander, then shot himself. Sad, but it could have been a much worse situation. I'm glad to hear your son wasn't near the incident.

I have to say that I hate the word "lockdown." While it makes sense for prisons, and even military bases, what does it say about our society when we apply a word to such things as schools?

Yeah, kinda sad situation. One of the schools nearby went into a "soft lockdown", immediately upon notification of the incident. Students, teachers etc, allowed to move freely within the school, but no entering or leaving the school. It definitely had a bunch of parents freaking out.

Don't know if they have any other kind of training going in that building but my son is there for TACP - spec ops for the Air Force. They don't get the nice cushy life of the regular wingnuts - son says it's a pretty rough course they go through (he's been around Marines his whole life so he's got a good idea of what it's all about). Figure they would keep a closer eye on these guys to make sure no one is going over the edge.

Can I go home yet? I've had enough of this winter crap - snowed here yesterday, ice on my truck this morning and hail this afternoon.

Just got home, had a busy day at work today then had errands to run. Dropped the kids off with there friends for the night so it's just me and my fiance tonight.. It's so quiet without the kids here lol. Hope everyone had a great day
