@Zipslack ENJOY!!!
fuzzy - I hope you are able to get your garden planted without further pain or injury.
I do not have high expectations for my container garden experiment.
Even though we have a large garden (about 50'x75'), a great deal of our stuff is grown in containers to keep the ground critters out of them. I use something called lick tubs - ranchers use them by the hundreds per year and there is no deposit on the plastic tub the minerals come in, so a neighbor keeps me well supplied. I drill a few holes around the bottom (so excess water can get out) and fill them with my homemade compost -- mixture of horse poo, cow poo (many farmers are also willing to give that away if you haul) ,chicken poo (careful on the amount because it is very "hot"), old hay and other vegetable matter, aged for a couple years so it has the consistency and "feel" of fine dirt. Then I line them up in the garden so one side is against the lilac hedges so they get full morning sun but afternoon shade. My tomato plants generally grow about six feet tall in that setup. On those plants where rabbits are likely to try to climb in the tub, I have cut hardware cloth (fine wire mesh) to make a complete circle inside the lip of the tub. We always get great yield this way.
Thunderstorms brewing out there for likely afternoon showers, so I gotta get my buns outta here now and go finish topping off the tubs with fresher compost. Later gang...
