TIOA Sns9 eps 25: Katz and the rest listened closely, and then Katz wondered something asked Theresa "The people that were displaced, annexed, what has happened to them, or what is the plan?" Theresa continued to watch the road when she replied. "They all were brought into the city, allowed to tour it just like you are and will do. We allowed them to understand most of what takes place here, showed them how we grow. The education system, we have religious buildings for those who are so inclined. Of all the people who came here and looked at what we have, only 13 have so far left, the rest are staying or still deciding."
Katz then asked. "Of those who chose to leave, will they be compensated?" Theresa said. "Darlin has guaranteed them, to pay them in gold three times the amount of everything they lost, houses, land, animals. When they are picked up and relocated, it will be delivered to them. And for any child that they may have, she has promised to compensate them more." Katz said. "So you do have a currency?" Theresa said. "Not really, we do have funds, and money as you want to think about it. Here compensation comes in the form of your work, the way we see it, if you do not eat you die. If you do not eat, you do not have the strength to do anything, so farmers are at the top of the hierarchy if you will. Funny enough, in your world lawyers are paid well, here it is a less than desirable position."
"Of all the people you took in, you have the space and food for them?" asked Katz. Theresa responded. "We have continued to build farms, and houses, there is more than enough room for them, they can choose to be in the same position they were in their previous lives, or pick a new one. We also take education very seriously here, though we do not use money, there is a monitory value to any work done, or items received, credits are given if needed. A normal garden that could feed two people in the year, through the terracing and continues water allows the same garden to feed eight, we show people how to grown their own in their homes, herbs and spices."
"So you do take food very seriously here?" asked Katz. "Of course, like I said without food, what else can you do?" The buggy continued to move as the conversation continued as well. They had passed through the fifth section and there were more buildings, lodges, cabins, the types of structures varied, in shape and size. "Then all you do is work? There is no entertainment, do you ever retire?" Theresa responded again. "No we have entertainment as well, we know of all the same card games as you do, solitaire, spades, dominoes, chess, board games. We do have some TV's in the common areas, we find that children have to get outside to go watch the TV, if it is outside their home. We have enjoyed watching the American football games, baseball, basketball, things like that."
"Wait you say that you have been able to watch these things already?" asked Katz surprised. "Of course, just because you can finally see us today, does not mean we were not getting ready to come here. Darlin has tried hard to make sure that any need is met, that the balance between work and rest is good. Of course Darlin coming from your time, knew of a lot of these things, playgrounds, monkey bars, climbing trees. Everyone can leave the castle at will and go out into the country side. There is plenty of game out there as well, dear, quail, pheasant; if you wish you can hunt them, but not for show, but for food, venison is good." replied Theresa
"It does not make sense to me how it works." said Katz. Theresa said. "Don't worry about that yet, you just got here, you have had not time, to really see our city, how it functions. In time, depending on how long you stay and what you want to learn, you can see later how it works better." The buggy passed through and into the sixth section, here is was almost nothing but buildings, taller, more apartment type feeling, there were still gardens by the buildings, the vegetables varied greatly, no doubt the choice of the occupants and their favorites. The group noticed that from the first wall to the second, the space between must have been about a quarter mile apart, the further they went in the further the walls got apart from each other, allowing more space.
The buggy continued to move, and finally went under the last great wall, each section was no less than 15 feet thick, strong stones placed on top of each other with no mortar, gravity did its job. "Well here we are, coming into the main area." Theresa said as they came just into the other side. "I am to stop here and let you off, you are to walk the rest of the way." Katz looked down the road, she knew where they were, she saw the building she, Anjel and Count had stayed in. "I am pretty sure I can take them from here." Katz stated, Theresa looked over at her with a smile and said. "We figured that you could." with a wink. "Okay everyone, time to get off, Katz says she can lead you the rest of the way, I hope you all have a great day."
The group got out of the buggy, and looked, here the buildings were much taller, nine and ten story's tall in some places, but long, narrow alleys. All were made of rock, smaller but rock, and some in brick. It must have rained at some point during their travels, as the ground was wet, giving a gloss to the brick road. Katz got down and went around the other side, she stuck out her hand. "Thank you Theresa." She knelt down and took Katz hand and said with a smile. "It was wonderful meeting you and seeing you all, I hope to speak to you again Katz. We should see each other at the grand ball."
Katz looked and saw that the others were out and almost ready, just waiting for her to start walking, Katz began down the street, the others followed. It did not take long to pass the businessman's house they had lived in. Memories came back into her mind, the nights, the troops just outside their door. She thought about it so much, that she barely noticed she had made it to the road to turn right. Katz came back from her thought, and looked and turned right up the road, the slight incline recognizable, from the distance you could hear talking and laughter, and there were trees already visible.
The group followed up the path behind Katz, and the higher they got up the street, the more they could see. There was a very bright white building coming into view, and more trees, the climb was a little strenuous on the calves, the day had come to the hottest part of the day, the sun made them start to sweat. As the group came to the top of the road, what they saw was astonishing. Fruit trees lined the square, apples, pears, peaches, cherry trees, there were regular gardens with roses and flowers, very nice color combinations, as well as more vegetables', a large strawberry patch was to the right.
The trees were spaced out, and did not impede travel, green grass throughout and a crisscross of the brick road, went to the spring in the middle and around in a circle as well as converging from one location to another. The group stopped after the came into the main area enough to see, they had passed by the white building on both sides coming in, the construction complete, white building encircled the town center all the way around the circle, those with the sun to their back open and more ornate, those facing the sun had ways to provide more shade and cool to the people.
Laughter and playing caught their attention and they looked over to the spring in the middle, children were sitting at trees, as adults read, some children ran around too young to be in school yet, enjoying the spring in the middle and the pool that it made, it was big enough that the children could get into it and dive just enough under the water to fully submerge and get fully wet. The children chased each other, as adults watched, the group walked closer.
A blonde lady had her back to them and was helping a child with her shoes, helping to tie them. "Thank you." said the small voice as the lady was done helping. "You are most welcome, know go along and play." The child got up fast and went running back to her friends, who were playing tag of some sort. The lady stood up and turned around, she stood 5'11" tall, in her mid to late twenties, her blond hair went just beyond her shoulders, with a lot of body, not so much curly, but bodied. She was very beautiful, her cheekbones very well defined, blue eyes with dark eyebrows. Her skin just a little bronzed from the sun, sleek and elegant she turned and looked at them. She smiled and said "Hello Angel, Katz, Count all of you."
The group walked closer and the lady started to walk towards them, she said "You do not recognize me anymore do you? Your my grandmother Angel." She stopped walking and looked waiting for it to sink in.
