I'm signing off for the evening--I'm taking my son to the school to watch an outdoor showing of Zootopia. They say it begins at 6, but it doesn't get dark until 7--I guess I still need to get there early enough to get a good view.

Tomorrow is another winner (I should be here for at least a little while--soccer starts a little later for me), so POST EARLY AND ....

Good night, Treefam!

:tumble: Oh and the guy I am working under was shocked that I knew how to bend pipe at all. Do not know all of it, but I am sure he was pleased not to teach me, or get up and down the ladder. See you tomorrow.

10/22 - 1: Good morning all, post early.

E. 1. 10.

As expected the traffic was lighter Saturday morning, and Ted was able to make better time than on the weekdays, he made it back to precinct and there were fewer cars there as well. He drove to the rear and could see Jaki's car already parked. The inside of his truck warmed up quickly during the drive, the cab small and needing little air to do so. He turned the engine off, and as soon as he did so the cold air on the windows hovered near his skin, he grabbed the cold door handle and opened his door. The warm air spilled out quickly and the cold hit him again as he went to the security door.

Ted swiped his card and entered the first door, as it shut he hit the buzzer on the second, hearing the buzz he opened the door and went inside, the scent of the cleaning solution was gone, the smell of coffee in the air, he sipped on his coffee and walked past the desks to his, he could see Jaki already at her desk with the computer up, she heard walking and turned seeing Ted, she said. "Your late."

Ted came in blue jeans, boots and a thick button up cotton shirt, Jaki also wore blue jeans, but had on running tennis shoes, and a colorful blue t-shirt that looked new and shined a little, her hair still back. Ted responded. "We are never late on a Saturday, and it is only three minutes after eight. Did you have a good evening, do anything fun?" Jaki spun back in her chair as Ted passed by, she replied as Ted sat down. "I played with the dog some, took that hot bath I said I would, ate and watched some TV. Nothing on really, how was your evening?"

Ted woke his computer and had entered his password, he was moving the mouse to the internet icon as he responded. "It was good thank you, the wife made potato stroganoff from scratch, it was good. We watched Star Wars and spent time together, sure could have stayed in bed this morning though." "Uh huh, I as well." replied Jaki, she took her left hand and grabbed her coffee cup, the contents had cooled and she was able to swallow fully and the cup was near empty, she stood up and walked past Ted and three sets of desks later turned right to the wall with the creamer, sugar and coffee percolators. She took the lid off of her stainless steel cup and poured in a little sugar, and more creamer, then filled the glass back up with coffee, taking one of the small straws she stirred the contents and walked back to her desk watching the cup and allowing her peripheral vision to guide her steps.

"I have already started to look up Shelley Peterson, there are four who have that name in the city. One is 80 so I doubt she is the one we are looking for, one moved away it appears about a month ago. The third is in her mid forties, and the last in her early twenties, I think the last one is the Shelley we need to talk to." Jaki sat back down her chair, she finished stirring the coffee and threw the straw in the small trash can to her left tucked just under her desk, she continued. "I have already pulled up her address and phone number, so we can call her."

Ted looked up from his computer and asked. "How long have you been here?" Jaki took a sip and set her cup down and looked at the clock and said. "Thirty five minutes." Ted shook his head no and said. "No way I am coming in early on a Saturday. We still need to go to Suzy's place of work and talk to them, they will be open already. That can give us some time before we call Shelley." Jaki shook her head in agreement.

The door of Theodore's office could be heard starting to open, as it swung open and Theodore came out he looked at Jaki and said. "Hard at it." he turned to Ted and said. "Good morning Ted, your late." Ted sat up a little and replied. "Good morning Captain, what are you doing here today?" Theodore responded. "You did not watch the news did you? It is all over the news now about Suzy's death, on every station, and somehow they know about the missing arm, I do not think they know about the flesh eaten away at her neck yet. I and the Sherriff are going to have a press conference later today with the reporters. The news stations just kept hyping up the story. Top story...." he said while waving his hand. "Breaking news..." while he shook his head. "We will have the meeting at ten this morning, I remember back in the day when the biggest thing we had to worry about was spending a dollar for gas, saving another few dollars for a burger and show. And that was good enough for two to eat well, and enjoy the whole evening."

Jaki smiled and said. "Did you go watch The Gold Rush? Did they have color back then, or even sound?" she started to laugh. Theodore turned to Jaki and said. "You have been around Ted too long, don't you have things to do?" he turned back to his office and as he shut the door he said loudly. "And yes there was sound back then." he slightly slammed the door. Jaki looked over at Ted and he smiled at her. "You ready to go?" Ted asked as he started to chuckle. "Yeah, let's get out of here." She stood up and took her jacket off the back of her chair, and put it on, it went down past her waist and covered the gun holster on her side.

She turned and started for the rear of the building and Ted was following shortly after, he said. "If we can get this done quickly we can go practice shooting like you suggested." Jaki made it to the inner door, and said. "That sounds good." she opened the door after the buzz sounded and went into the locker room, Ted grabbed the door and went inside as well. The two entered their keys and retrieved their firearms and placed them in their holsters. Ted grabbed the outer door and opened it, Jaki pulled the jacket around herself and huddled into it as Ted opened the door, her face cringed as the colder air hit them. "They should put in those systems that allow you to turn the cars on from inside, so that it is already warm when you get in." She started to move faster and realized she would have to wait for Ted anyway, Ted made it to the driver door and unlocked it, he said. "If you're going to pay for that, I doubt the department will." he reached in and unlocked the vehicle.

E.1.11.

Jaki sat in the car and put on her seatbelt quickly, she shivered a little and sipped on her coffee. "This coffee is horrible, let's stop over at the Lucky Goat Coffee House, it is on the way." Ted entered the key into the ignition and said "Okay." as he turned on the car, the air was still on and blew cold, Jaki quickly turned it off. Ted followed up. "We need to get some gas as well, Sunoco is near there." Ted let the car warm up a few minutes and then started driving.

Twenty minutes later, they were at the Lucky Goat Coffee House, and the inside of the car had finally warmed up. As ted turned off the car, Jaki was already unbuckled and out of the vehicle, she took the lid off her cup and tossed out the offending coffee and grabbed the door, as Ted made it over and she opened the door for him. "Thank you he said as he went in." the two walked to the counter and started looking at the menu up on the wall behind the register counter. "Can I help you?" asked a young male in his twenties, blonde and thin, he smiled.

"I would like just a black coffee, thank you." Jaki turned her eyes to him and said. "I will take a French vanilla coffee, with an espresso shot; and a bowl of potato soup to go please." The young man asked. "Is this one ticket?" Ted replied. "No separate thank you, and could you pour this out?" as he handed his cup to the young man. "Sure, and do you want your coffee in your cup?" he looked at Jaki and she said. "Yes, thank you." as she gave her cup to him. "I will be with you in just a minute, hey Dan a potato soup to go." he said loudly as he turned and went to the coffee machines.

Ted and Jaki walked away from the counter and looked out the window. "So do you want to come over for Christmas, or do you have plans?" asked Ted. Jaki responded. "You know I do not celebrate Christmas." "Yeah I know, but you could come over and eat with us, there will be plenty again, we can watch the game." he responded. "I will think about it, and I am not a big fan of football either." she said in return. "If you watched more of it, I think you would. Especially when you get in one of those moods, I think you would like it more than you think, it can get fun especially if it is close and counts towards the playoffs." "Like I said, I will think about it."

"Okay, you are ready to go." said the young man behind them, Ted and Jaki returned to the counter as he entered information in the computer. "A dollar and fifty cents." he said while handing the cup back to Ted, he took the cup in his left hand and reached into his pocket with his right and took out his wallet, he took out two one dollar bills and handed it over, "Put the change in the PIF pot." "Thank you he responded as the register opened and he did so putting two quarters in the pot. He entered more information into the computer and said. "And four eighty seven for you." Jaki had her debit card ready and swiped it, she said. "A receipt please, and did you give me a spoon and napkins?"

The young male said. "Yes, you have both, and sign please." Jaki signed on the digital pad and touched the yes button, a moment the processing was done and the receipt started to print. "Oh and do you have those little packets of salt and pepper?" Jaki asked. The young man grabbed the receipt and looked under the counter. "Sure do." he said as he came back up with the packets and handed Jaki the receipt and put the packets into the sack with the soup. "Thank you." said Jaki as she turned to leave. "Thank you, and come back." Ted was at the door and held it open for Jaki, she moved quickly to the car and got in.

Ted got in and turned the vehicle on again, the heater was still in the on position and came out warm, the smell off the coffee and soup filled the air. "That smells good." said Ted as he backed the car up and looked to the rear. "Should have gotten some." She replied as she started to dig into the sack. Ted put the gear into forward and said. "I had a little to eat already, thanks." he sipped the new hot coffee, and watched for a moment in which it was safe to move forward, Jaki was tasting the soup and getting the salt and pepper out to flavor it, she did not watch the road at all.

A moment later the car was coming to a stop again and Jaki looked up, they were at the gas station, Ted turned off the car and went outside, and shut the door quickly. Jaki started to sip the soup. "Mmmmm, that is good." she said out loud though there was no one there. Ted took a business gas card out of his wallet and entered the information he needed, moments later he was adding fuel to the car. He stood there watching the street and others as the tank filled up, Jaki looked in the bag. "Yes." she pulled out a few small packets of crackers and opened them, and crunched them up adding it to the soup.

Jaki continued to eat the soup as Ted finally got back into the car and started it up again. He took his right hand and turned on the stereo, it was still on the harder rock station. "Oh, it is too early for that." he touched the pre-set button one and the radio turned to the classic rock station. He sat there for a moment before putting on his seat belt, a commercial played, he breathed in deep and put the car into drive. Jaki continued to eat the soup and paid no attention to his driving, she had been with him enough and knew he was a very safe driver. Ted pulled forward and waited his turn again, the car moved forward.

A little while later, Jaki felt it was taking too long and looked up, she asked. "Where are we going?" Ted responded. "Home depot, have something to do." Jaki shrugged said. "Okay?" Ted pulled into the parking lot and found a spot close to the building, he said. "I will be back in just a few minutes." he turned off the car and took the key out. "Enjoy your soup." Jaki looked up and said loudly as the door closed. "Hey you took the key!" Ted put up his finger and mouthed "One minute." Jaki sighed a little frustrated, the heater was off and the radio as well. She went back to the soup and said. "Men."

Ted came back to the car, Jaki was done with the soup and drinking her coffee, she was a little upset and Ted could see it on her face as he came back to the car and got in. "You could have left the key, so that the car stayed warm and the music would continue to play." Ted responded. "I could have." as he turned the car back on. "But then I could not do this." He put his right hand in his jacket pocket and took it back out with a key. "Here you go." he said. Jaki's eyes got big. "Did you make me a copy?" Ted looked over at her and said. "Don't tell anyone." Jaki smiled and she took out her badge and put the key in the holder opposite her badge.

E.1.12. Chapter 9

Ted looked at the clock, and said. "Well it is a little after ten, we should be able to call Shelley." Jaki looked at the clock and then took her cell phone out of her jacket, she had the notebook in her hand as well as it came back out. She took the phone in her left hand and flipped the notebook open, she turned a few pages and stopped. She looked at her phone and notebook and entered the number for Shelley, and hit the phone icon. A moment later the phone started to ring and she put it up to her ear.

Jaki sat there a moment as Ted drank some more coffee, and Jaki finally sat up and said. "Hello, is this Shelley?.... Right, sorry this is detective Grimes, I am a detective for the city of Philadelphia, I was wondering if I and my partner detective Lancaster could talk to you?........ Oh no, you are in no trouble, we need to just talk to you, and ask you a few questions........ It would be better if we could talk to you in person......... Okay, can you tell me a good time for you?....... Can I ask your address then please?...... I understand, my badge number is 23751, you can go and search it on-line if you wish, call the precinct and ask........ Yes, of course....... Okay, and when do you think you will be done and back home?...... That sounds good, we will call before coming."

Jaki ended the call and Ted waited for her to speak, Jaki said. "She said she is going out shopping for groceries and should be back at home in a little over an hour. We should have time to talk to the employer of Suzy before that." Ted nodded his head yes and put the car into drive, he knew the location of her past job, it took him only about seven minutes to get there.

The building was actually two, one two stories tall and the other one story, light blue paint covered the brick, Ted pulled the car over to the side, there was only one other car there at the moment. Jaki got out of the car easily, facing the sidewalk. Ted looked in the mirror and no one was coming so he got out and went around the car towards the buildings. Jaki made it to the single door, glass with a metal bar to pull on from side to side. She grabbed the vertical handle and pulled it back open, a small bell jingled to alert those inside that it had opened.

Ted came up behind Jaki as she started to walk in, he caught the door and followed in. The building was full of sofa's, couches, beds, even smaller knick knacks of candles, glass ornaments and vases. The two walked in further, there was a smell of suede and leather, and coffee. "Good morning, can I help you?" an heavy set black woman asked with a big smile on her face, she genuinely glowed. Jaki stopped and smiled back.

"Good morning, yes please." The black female said. "My name is Theresa, how can I help?" Jaki responded. "Well unfortunately, we are not here to purchase furniture, we are here to ask a few questions if you do not mind?" Ted stood behind Jaki so that Theresa did not feel uncomfortable, she said, while her smile started to fade. "Ask me a few questions about what?" Jaki went for her badge, so Ted did the same, they produced their badges, and Jaki continued. "We came to ask about Suzy Fields, we are detectives Grimes and Lancaster." Theresa paused and put her hand to her mouth. "Oh dear. We had not heard from her and tried to call, but she did not answer. I saw on the news last night that she had been murdered. Are you here for that?" Jaki changed her stance to be more receptive, and said. "Yes maim, we are just hoping that you might know some of her friends and colleagues, you are not under suspicion."

"Uhm." Theresa said as she looked around, she continued. "Can we talk in my office?" "Of course, thank you." said Jaki, as Theresa turned around and started to walk, Jaki and Ted followed. They walked the distance of the building to the back and turned left, the wall opened and a sign above said "Employees only." They followed Theresa beyond the open entrance, there were a few doors closed, one said "Janitorial." another "Male." the last "Female." they continued past the restrooms and finally to a door near the rear exit.

Theresa went in and around her desk, she sat down in a swiveling chair on rollers, a computer, phone and tons of paperwork on her desk. "Sorry about the mess, please shut the door." Ted was the last to enter and shut the door. "So how can I help you?" she asked, Jaki asked again. "We would like to know if you have any names of her friends, that Suzy would spend time with?" Theresa sat back in her chair and she was thinking, she brought her right hand up to her mouth. "Yes, she did mention many times her friends...... Let's see....... what was it?.... Suzy..... no Suzzana...... Suzanna Barker, and....."

Her eyebrows came down as she concentrated hard, thinking back. "There was a Shelley....... yes Shelley Peterson, and......" She breathed in deep and turned a little. "What was his name?....... Tray, no.... Tony, that is it, Tony Trainor." Theresa looked back up at Jaki no longer thinking. Jaki smiled, and said pleasantly. "Thank you so much, and do you perhaps know where they live, or their phone numbers?" Jaki had written down the names as Theresa relayed them, she responded. "No, I afraid that I cannot, she never said." Ted said. "That is okay, thank you so much for your help, here is my card, it has both of our numbers on it, if you think of anything please call us."

Theresa took the card from Ted and said. "I will, it is so tragic to hear what happened to her." her demeanor changed, she was smiling for the customers, but the pain was starting to come through and Theresa started to cry. "We are so sorry for the loss, you can stay here and we can see ourselves out." Jaki said and Theresa nodded her head yes as she grabbed a Kleenex and put it to her eyes, to wipe away the tears forming. "Okay." she said as she laid the card on her desk. "Try to have a good day Theresa." said Ted as he opened the door so that they could leave.

"You too, I am so sorry." Theresa said as she grabbed another Kleenex. "No, it is okay, thank you so much, you have helped a lot, thank you again." Jaki said as she shut the door. The two walked back towards the entrance of the building, and exited, Jaki got in first and then Ted, when he shut his door, Jaki said. "With that, we should be able to take Suzy's phone and get the numbers of the others." Ted nodded yes, and looked at the clock, he said. "With the drive time, we should only be a few minutes early to see Shelley."
