Made it to work a little while ago... I have a lot of work to get done today, but I'm just not feeling sitting at the computer all day today...but unfortunately I don't have a choice. I really think after the stress of the holidays in going to start on my mission to find a job I actually enjoy. I know it won't be easy but at least I can kinda take my time and find something I like, with the hours that I need.. I mean I really don't have to rush since I already have a job, this would allow me to take my time and make sure it's the right job for me.
Well I guess I better get to work, I have some errands to run after work again today so I need to leave on time again. Have a great day everyone [emoji268] [emoji268] [emoji268]

12/21 - 1: Morning all, Mandi I do not think it is wrong. I am sure someone will come up with something better than this. Take the money back and a few gifts under the tree, and tell them they were to buy the phone. And since they have the phones, you can take the money as payment and a few gifts they can now work on.
Had my first job at 15, nothing big but during the summer and I saved saved saved. Growing up in a household where I was "made" to believe we were poor I worked hard to get going. Even had to bicycle miles both ways to a job to save up for a first vehicle. anyway too early for this, yawn.

Good morning, everyone.

@Mandikay, I do not think you are wrong in your thinking. It appears to be a generational thing: younger generations have a feeling of entitlement. That is why they all have the latest phones, expensive cars (I can't tell you how many of the kids at the nearby university drive BMWs and Mercedes--whatever happened to the "starving" college student--and then treat their entry level jobs as optional (just ask @angelphyre). Learning the value of money is a valuable lesson. That said, the gift has been made and I think you will come out looking like the bad guy if you try to take the phones away or have the kids "purchase" them after the fact. At this point, I think the best you can do is sit them down and explain just how valuable a gift the phones were and how many other things could have been purchased for the cost (each was an $800 device, no?). You could even take it a step further, and roughly total how much their other phones cost as well, and then--in the end--they may start to get the picture.

Happy Hump Day Treefam...........(my Sunday)......

Mandi I must also agree that you are not wrong....I too have seen the way they are now a days....I am not really sure what you can do about it without hurting somebody's feelings about giving a gift they want to give....it's a sticky situation...
I am headed off to get some things done today...........

Mandi, I agree with the others in that you are not wrong in your thinking, but I do agree with Count that you'd just end up looking like the bad guy if you do anything. He had good ideas for how to get the point across about the money.

Oh and our little intern has been given the next three weeks off without pay to see if she can get her priorities straight about what she's supposed to be doing while on the clock with us...uh huh, I know when she comes back it'll be the same old thing...oh well, that's the boss's problem, not mine.

Still no connectivity at the office but they managed to get a temp fix in place so was able to get a bit done. They thought the problem was a crashed router and had a new one sent in but didn't have all the parts (missing hard drive). Then they found the actual problem is the original was full and trying to update - don't work too good when no room to perform the extract/install the update. Now they're trying to figure out how to get in and clear old files.

It's 4:21pm, Wifey's Mom's calling hours started at 4pm. I'm still trying to get Wifey ready, this is not going well. Sorry to say anything but I had to vent to someone, I just wish this year was over!
Hang in there, @jpf880. It's never easy--but hopefully even the little venting helps...

You see that is it, the participation trophy award generation, no losers "snowflakes". Um Usain Bolt is the sprint champion if you do not beat him you do not win. Having grown up in a abusive environment I am sure has sculpted me, but the fact that my ex wife never did anything making me to be the bad guy always, guess I am used to it. I will say that since we do not know the whole situation we can not truly understand and give the greatest advise. That being said though, doubt they will learn the value of the phone as there is nothing done about the situation. You have to have some hard knocks and go through difficulties to realize what you have, or had. Unfortunately I think if nothing is done, the father mother structure in Mandi's household will start to be compromised. I can give examples of that through my estranged father...... the longer you wait the harder it gets.

12/21 - 4: I get some vent time as well. My current supervisor took the week off to be with his child, divorce. So working with another, who has chided me every day but today. Both are going to leave, the one I am with after this job is done, the one I worked with, will come back and wait until Jan 1 to get his two weeks vacation and go. The next problem, even those who qualify for holiday pay will get none for Christmas or New Years as they fall on the weekend and the boss has decided that observed is not good enough. No I am going to leave being an electrician, no holiday with one, no vacation with another, none with most, and most have no insurance or sick time. I will keep my license updated just in case, but am sick of this trade in this town.
The builders use the same bid from 10-15 years ago, living large, and the wages of the employees "electricians" stay the same year after year after year.... Nah no thanks to no vacation, holiday, sick time, insurance, retirement or any other benefit.

On the bright side the day went faster than planned, I took my radio, job site and super be da..ed, and played it, joked around and we got more done being happier.

@jpf880 A bit late but thoughts and prayers sent!

@tiggerrts Hoping you find what you want. I know what you mean. At least I have insurance and paid vacation which is also know as sick days. If you get sick and call off, you have to use vacation. Not as bad as your situation but I know what you mean.

@Mandikay As someone not terribly old that grew up having to buy what I wanted for myself.. All I can say is, if they break or lose them, they are gone unless they pay for a new one. Explain that and then stick to it. If they need another, take them when they have enough money. Or not. Nothing teaches like going and not being able to get what you want. Then they have to decide if they want to save more or get something else.

10 minutes until escape! Catch y'all soon!
