I've had a few "Oops" moments. My most memorable to date is when I was replacing my coils in my Igo-W. It was only the 3rd time, and I've been learning how to wrap coils. I wrapped both coils and it was the first time I could say to myself "Wow - that looks really good".
I install both coils. Perfectly set off the deck, and now I'm getting excited because I feel I'm really getting the hang of this. Check the ohms and it's sitting right at .6. Again excited cause I know this is going to be an amazing setup. I start to fire coil number 1. Get it nice and squeezed, getting red from the inside out. Start counting the steps in my head "Fire, release, squeeze". Move on to coil number 2 - and the "Oops" moment happens. Instead of "Fire, Release, Squeeze" I did "Fire, Squeeze". A very bright arc, coils melt and break and I sorta tack weld the tweezers to the center post. I had a protected battery, and no damage was done but it was spectacular.
I'm sure we all make mistakes some subtle, some big, and I would say this so far is my big one. I've always been safety minded. I do everything to protect myself with shorts, ohm checking, locking rings, etc... even with that, you can always make a mistake. I still tell my friends about it, sort of a reminder that we are playing with some high amps and learning from a mistake is how it doesn't happen again
