I don't feel like it's a "not ok to use it here" because of the vapor but rather, the smell of the flavorings.

And I have to agree. If I'm eating a salad and I smell someone's vanilla vapor, it's not going to mesh well. Same if someone is eating a steak and I vape my mint near them. Ew.

Kryssi, you should only vape mint if they are having lamb !!! lol.

you walk into a public place.. one of the best ways to find out if your gonna get in trouble.. is ask hey.. are you vape friendly and hold up your pvd.... if they say no there will be no suprise or anger at the end of your meal. pretty simple stuff. I find many places say they dont mind. I have many people ask me if it works... and have i completly quit smoking using it. It may not be that the manager minds.. some old person could have been sitting there watching you and got pissy to the manager for seeing it and thinking you were smoking... expecially if you can produce alot of vapor.

great word... haven't heard that in years... You grew up in the 80's right

Yep. Sure did!

It may not be that the manager minds.. some old person could have been sitting there watching you and got pissy to the manager for seeing it and thinking you were smoking... expecially if you can produce alot of vapor.

The irony is that the little old couple was fascinated and stopped by my table on their way out to examine my hookah toy.

And I'd like to reiterate that when the manager came to talk to me, there was ONE other group of people on the other side of the restaurant from us. That's IT. The rest of the place was EMPTY.

As I said before, I'd understand if there were PEOPLE in here...but there weren't. And our waitress didn't say anything either.

By and large, I find that the world boils down to two groups when it comes to vaping: Those who are intrigued, and want to know more, and those who are ignorant, who just want to stop it.

I have yet to run across anyone who actually KNEW what it was to actively say "you can't vape here."

It's the closed-minded individuals who don't know what it is, don't care what it is, it just disrupts their tidy little world and therefore if they can forbid it, they will.

Most folks who are "in the know" with vaping are totally cool with it.

Since this manager also made a crack about us having our own aircards since this Denny's ALSO didn't have wifi, I'm thinking he may have luddite tendencies, or at least a dislike of technology "haves".

Just a hunch.

I vape, promote, hand out cards, take it apart, show juice, let people smell it..Sometimes if their super cool, I get a fresh cart n juice em up. I do draw crowds and sometimes it get's frustrating. Time consuming and all that jazz. However I have it set in my mind, I will continue to do so. Until I see ecigs everywhere and this ban crap is gone. I feel it is important to get the word out. A local smoke shop just opened up around the corner from me. I have been teaching them about the ecig, and they just ordered all kind's of kits. The first smoke shop that was willing to listen to what I had to say. I have high hopes that more people who are skeptic will now try in store. Instead of mall rip offs. Other Smoke Shops didn't seem to want to be bothered, or had crappy ecigs.

Don't get me wrong I will hide my ecig, when in a super hurry. Other then that nothing makes me more happy to hear. OMG she has one of those things. Does it work? Can I see?

I have yet to be told not to use my ecig. The day I am told not to, I will not shop or eat whatever at that place. I am not hurting anyone and refuse to spend money anywhere that is ignorant to learn or tolerate.

Maybe the guy was having a bad night and needed an ecig in high nic.

I see what you're saying - kind of - but would you be okay with a waiter asking a woman to go wash her vanilla scented perfume off before she was allowed to eat at a table next to someone who had a meal it didn't mesh well with? Or a patron being asked to put away or go outside if s/he opened a tin of Altoids?

I think odor in this situation is an excuse for someone to maintain his or her anger, after the reason for the anger (harmful second-hand smoke) has been disproved.

As vapers, we should be sensitive to others around us and kind, even when someone is refusing to listen and is happier judging than communicating - but we also need to keep in mind the reason behind the anger. They see 'smoke' and as a society we've been taught to judge smoking as nasty, harmful, low-class behavior and those that smoke to be inferior to those who don't.

I'm not talking about just a smell. I'm talking about vapor plumes that can waft over.

I've never sat so close to someone in a restaurant that I could smell their perfume. Not even in the cramped places in NYC's theater district.

You know I can understand where you're coming from. But I respectfully disagree. If you can't smoke there, I wouldn't attempt to vape there either.

Exactly correct.

No disrespect to the op, but this comes up all the time. Someone even said they vaped in church here on the forum...

I dont vape in stores or anywhere that smoking is not allowed.. wait until you get to a place you can vape or go to the bathroom..

We need to respect others that are not informed on ecigs.

This will further our cause. Vaping in restaurants and other places like these are just asking for a confrontation from managers or people that are concerned it is smoke you are blowing out. If you want to vape ask the manager if it is allowed before proceeding..

+1 :toast:

I stopped going to Dennys after being asked to leave. I was talking to another customer about the healthcare bill and vapeing away. The manager didnt mind if I vaped, he just didnt like my politics! Said I was close minded and had to leave! The customer I was talking to left in protest. Dennys is a close minded sewer and I will never go there again.

Wait a minute, are you trying to say that Denny's discriminated against someone without just cause?!? I've never heard of something so.... oh yeah, that's right. Maybe he thought you were a federal agent:rolleyes:... I'd be on the OP's side of this one but he said he was hookahing like mad which means (to me) that he had a pretty substantial cloud going. That's obnoxious even in places where smoking is allowed, not as smelly, but still obnoxious. In short treat your second hand vapor the same way you'd want someone else to treat their second hand smoke.

Ha--Denny's! When it was still easy in Va. to have restaurants with legal smoking sections, it became my usual lunch spot after my previous chain restaurant banned smoking chain-wide. Then they went non-smoking (still months before Va.'s partial ban went into effect) completely unnecessarily. Even though vaping has made smoking restaurants unnecessary for me, I will not patronize a restaurant that banned smoking for reasons other than the law. (And given the work-arounds in Va.'s statute, Denny's could have re-tooled to comply.)

Being that they are a national chain, they were probably reacting to legislature in other states nationwide. Setting a corporate policy for a chain typically is easier than singling out individual locations.

I don't go there personally, because when I go out, I'd typically want something a little better, but their buffalo chicken sandwich (assuming they still have it) was pretty killer.

I have vaped at 2 Denny's and 3 Village Inn's in my state (Colorado) right in front of managers and servers and no one has even said anything.

I think it is better for us to educate people NOW instead of letting them get some propaganda off the TV or something later. Don't hide it, and don't give any business stupid enough to kick you out for it, anymore money either. Pretty simple really.

If it's ok in hospitals and airplanes then why not anywhere else? Remind people that airplanes CIRCULATE their air...

Since when is it ok in airplanes?

I've been flying regularly, and I have yet to see an airline that allows this? Do it sometime and write back here... I love these kind of stories.

If you don't want to get into serious trouble and get hit with a bunch of fines, I'd suggest you read your pamphlet next time you get on a plane.
