what kind/size of carto would the 3.5 raven tank. its a shame to waste the tank I thought I heard someone say you could use other carto's in it

As Magenta mentioned in a previous post, I have taken 2 Stallions, striped off the black stuff(wrapper?), punched 2 holes, and am using them in my Raven tanks. Seems to be no tank leaks, vapes fine. Be careful to locate the punched holes(I used 2) appropriately. Using a 50/50 fairly dark tobacco flavor juice. Vaped 1 tank(3 ml.) seems to work fine. Just my very recent experience.

The carto is the same on the larger and smaller tanks. Just the tank area around the carto is less on the smaller one.

The stallion and DCT cartos stick out the top a bit more then the raven carto.

This is a stallion in a raven tank.

You all are so awesome  I'm glad I went ahead and purchased one. So, you guys punched a hole in the stallion and are using it, that's pretty cool. I have some spare Stallions around here that aren't used too often, I think I can abuse at least one of them to try this out.

Problem is, I don't have any fancy tools that can do this that I know of. Are there any common household items that would punch a hole through it? I'm guessing no, but thought I'd ask just in case

Update on my thinned wicks: Still perfect. I've done this on two of them and they're both vaping like champs. Several tanks and not a single dry hit at all.

I'm not sure how thinned they are, but I STRONGLY encourage any of you who have given up on them to try this. Even if you're not familiar with any modding, this is super simple.

Any thin, pointed object would probably work. I used my tweezers. They were slanted tweezers, but my pointed ones worked great too. I bought these for $1.75 at the Dollar General, came with one of each. Very cheap!

Stick the pointed end in the wick slot at an angle so it's pointed downward. Scrape it up the side and out of the hole. I put it in at different angles, too, trying to snag anything around the opening. Eventually, it's probably gonna catch a piece of wick or two. Heck, you might be lucky and one of yours has the wicks right at the hole. The first one I did this to was like that and I could actually grasp the wick and pull a full strand (that stretched from one hole to the other) out of the coil and that was all it needed. The other one wasn't so kind and I wound up pulling wick out in tiny pieces. The end result was the same.

The second one, which I'm using now, is vaping like a champ and the holes aren't even all the way open!

If you're concerned about pulling too much wick out, just err on the side of caution and thin it gradually until you get the desired vapor, flavor and consistency. Just be aware that, if the wick isn't right at the hole, it takes a bit of time to get enough wick out. If you can't get hold of any at all, you might want to try putting whatever thin object you chose to use down the barrel and kind of gently coax the wick on each side towards its adjacent hole.

Afterwards, I put a Dentek brush (dental toothpick thing with a tiny brush at the end, easy to find at drug stores and I've seen them at the Dollar General, cheap) down the barrel and just lightly brushed it around the coil and wick so I could grab any loose strands. Not sure if this was even required, but I did it for good measure. I didn't bother doing this with the one that was easy to remove a full strand from.

I know that rdsok was able to do this with some success but I haven't heard from anyone else. I think he could stand to maybe get some more wick out since he's still getting some dry hits, though.

If you're hesitant to do this because you're worried about ruining it, you don't really have much to lose. Especially if you're someone that's given up on it totally. You'll either be no worse off than you were before or you'll have another nice vaping unit :)

Well, that's pretty conclusive, then - the tube should have been in there. Wow. The scope of this QC error is kinda amazing. :) I guess they'll have to learn from this particular disaster. I'm still kinda stunned... How can all these units come off the assembly line and no-one notice that they are missing a significant part entirely?..

Actually it is not yet conclusive... but WallyO's direction is certainly working well from the sound of it. BonnyC and I've been going in a slightly different direction that also seems to be having good results but with only minor changes to the existing design.

I've been pushing the coil up from the bottom through the 510 connector... and as suggested by BonnyC, removing a strand of wick after teasing out a bit from the sides of the carto... A process very similar to what is needed on some of the Phoenix XL cartos. The only downside is that we can't inspect our work since we aren't taking the carto apart... but I've had good luck on the two I've modded this way ( one just raising the coil, another raising the coil and thinning the wick slightly ).

yes....actually...and easy peasy ;)

1) any book
2) nail or even a screw
3) hammer

I'm sure the nail and hammer are pretty self explanatory...so for the book.....open it up and use the binding to hold the carto and keep it from rolling while you punch the nail/screw into the side. Just goes easy with the hammer and nail....if the hole is too big, you will get the flooding, if it's too small and the juice doesn't get into the cart....at least if it's too small, you can always enlarge it a bit ;)

I don't see why you can't just drill out a stallion with a small bit. No need to worry about shorting the coil since it's on top. If nothing else you can get it paper thin with the drill point and punch it with anything pointy to complete it. Seems better than mashing the carto to me. I guess I'll try one later after I strip and clean it.

BonnyC, make sure to go super easy if you do this! If you go too far into the carto you'll end up punching the center tube as well and juice will just pour right back out of the bottom!

Here's a GrimmGreen video on how to use a saddle valve (available at any hardware store) to punch them:

Oh thanks Keela! I'll give it a try. I guess I should try to imitate the Raven in terms of the size of the actual holes. I have some thinner nails that might do the trick.

I used a deck screw, (before I started drilling holes) they have a much sharper point than a nail if you happen to have something similar around.

what's the word on these? are we getting store credits automatically? or is there a ticket needed?

silver.....dan put a message up saying he would be refunding credit cards rather than doing store credit. They will have to do them over a period of time rather than all at once to avoid problems with the credit card processing company.

The details are in the thread if you gp back and read it.....

It'll be a credit card refund and will happen automatically with no ticket required or desired. They'll be doing them in batches over a period of time -- over several weeks I think? You can read back thru the last few pages if you need to know that.

Edit: in other words, what harleydiva said, but adding no ticket necessary.

I have a question about this raven situation. Most of the issues seem to be saying the tanks themselves are fine that all the mistakes/changes were to the cartos themselves. Well I was curious if anyone else has found problems in the tanks themselves as well? I know my vaping buddy Fendral and I got shipped tanks that shouldn't have passed a quality check. For example my tank the top hole of the tank the carto slides into is too small. When I purchased the raven I also purchased the funnel filler from got vapes and it slides in smoothly through the bottom flanged hole but the top hole is too small for the funnel to fit in and I have to use quite a bit of force to push the carto through. On my friends tank he was shipped one with what appears to be 2 top caps on both ends of his tank because he doesn't even have a flanged bottom to his tank.

Did anyone else get shipped a tank piece specifically that was manufactured incorrectly?

To be honest I had no idea how this got mixed up, they made a massive booboo, its not what was sent days before to test , the whole line is getting redone and im doing what i did with the novas and will be watching them on video and having them show me batches to check then ship out more for testing, this will be solved no matter what it takes. This is the nature of the beast but they understand its a F up and they are working double time to solve this issue.
