What is the best tool to use when taking the posts off the spheroid? The nuts are so small and I don't want to damage them.

I just got a new brushed spheroid with the v3 post kit that I want to install on it.
Hello and welcome. First, you are aware that the base must be opened, correct?

I've been searching everywhere for a voltmeter. Where did you get that one Redhatpat?

I've been looking for a pocket voltmeter with a 510 connection too (I have one, but I want another and I want to buy one for a friend). I've collected a handful of US sites that carry them, but they are ALL out of stock. I hope that someone knows of a site that has them in stock that I haven't found.

Thank you Perseas.

One other question. Since the Lux tubes are mixed brass and other metals, would they still patina, or not? I suspect they will maintain more like SS.

Hey Jonny,

The lux tubes are Bronze with a high copper mix. They take on a beautiful patina if you can resist the urge to polish them for long enough! The lux tubes are complete finger print magnets, if you own a polished mod you will know how that goes! I tend to use the brushed/blasted tubes for day-to-day use as they don't show up marks so easily.

Hope that helps

Ok, so I figured it out myself. I was having a little trouble getting the isolators positioned just right for the v3 kit. I did get it all set up and working fantastic.

Is there a tutorial anywhere on teardown/cleaning of the Spheroid? I had trouble finding anything anywhere.

Hello buddy,

Take a look at our Gallery section of our site, it has videos about it.

Thank you Perseas.

Lux tubes are basically 85-92% copper and the rest is mainly aluminum and trails of other metals. It develops a very nice patina slower than the brass with interesting uniform shades.

Try bevapehappy.com for the tankometer, I just ordered one from them and shipping was pretty fast. I'm on my cell now otherwise I would post a link for you guys.

In case qorax hasn't convinced you with his PhD Thesis on microcoils, there is absolutely no way in Hades I am every building anything but a microcoil in a Spheroid. While all my tanks benefited from the microcoil, the Spheroid really just blew me away - and I already loved it beforehand.

I even used R/NR, simply because I had a bunch of wires sitting around. I liked GVC before, but I wasn't gaga stir crazy like others get - until I had it in this setup.

I have been having a lot of fun with the spheroid, once I got dialed into it, I thought I probably should share a couple of pics up.

The build-

10 or so builds later and I have found my sweet spot and I love the spheroid. I have been running this setup for a few days so excuse the state of it, its a .25 Kanthal A1 microcoil at 1.6ohms with cotton ball wick. It is working perfectly. Amazing flavour!
Personally I found much less on the ohms made it too harsh(I only went as low as 1.2ohms). I am using it only on my baby paps with AW IMR 18350(all my other stuff is now out on loan/sold etc) I havent really felt the need to play with voltage it's working just right for me like this.

Here she is-pocket sized heaven

The only problem-the tanks not big enough(22mm!?!;) )this set-up seems to gobble juice!

My first bottle of GVC arrived on sunday, WOW, it really is the dogs danglies! I understand what all the hype is about now, never thought I was going to like a custard flavour. I am loving it with a good cup of tea!!!

Perseas any chance I will get a Piccolo in time to give to Santa:nun:? I desperately want to put the spheroid with its perfect partner!!

Totally with you there! You must have posted while was trying to put photos up of a said microcoil!! I have also been running the Kayfun with microcoil and I have been loving it.

I am finding maintenance much easier. Just pull wick out, dry-burn coil, put new in. Easy.

How often are you guys replacing coils? They seem very robust and I have had no issues cleaning up coils after a couple of weeks with a dry burn and light brushing. Usually by then I get around to playing with another coil.

I did my first (coil replacement) in 3+ months.
There was no need to though. It was as shiny after a dry-burn as it was on day-1 ~ but I just wanted to ;)

I replace my wick every 4-5 tanks though :)

Eddie, it isn't until now that I realized how Fast you actually are. :)

On another note...My Grants has still not arrived, I feel like someone in the Royal Post or US Post Office customs is using it as syrup on their crumpets in the break room.
^That calls for a lol.jpg

Good to know from the master...I just got my Spheroid last Friday, but I've been running a micro coil in another atty for about a month, and it still looks great. I think that the regular wick replacements help keep it looking good.

I did have quite a bit of trouble getting the Spheroid up & running. First I had too much "fluff". Then, I had to keep trimming the wick to make sure it was just touching the fluff, and not compressing when I reassembled. I could get almost no draw at all until I sorted those two issues. Even afterwards, the draw is still super tight.

I read much earlier in the thread that the air hole directly under the coil should be 1.2-1.25mm, and the holes in the 510 threading should be 1.0mm. The holes in my Spheroid are much smaller; 1.0mm & 0.8mm respectively. I was able to ream out the holes in the threading to 1 mm, as the material is fairly thin, but I could only ream out the vertical hole to about 1.1mm. My hardened steel micro reamers are no match for that thick of stainless steel.

It is a little better, but only slightly; has anyone else had this issue, and how did you solve it?

Did you try the same Spheroid over other Mods and see? Sometimes it is not the Spheroid but the Mod's top-cap!
