Try this as well and see how it works for you, it's my preferred build with silica. Make a circle with your silica , so you end up having the wick tripled where you're wrapping. What you'll end up with is a loop on both sides plus a lose end on both sides. Leave a little extra wick on both sides so if need be you can slide the wick through the coil to make the loops bigger or smaller. Once the loops are just big enough to touch the fluff trim off the excess near the coil.

A pic of my build I posted a few days ago-should give an idea what you legs of wick should look like for length.

I run my cotton wick much longer than yours. I let to touch the filler material and bend down a bit. Still holds the shape up there.

Different strokes for different folks.

Agree, its useful to see how other people do it but whatever works for you!

I found longer legs got tired more quickly then sag as they were being moved around more when refilling.

Thanks Akdare. I want to use silica at this point to get the flavour profile right. I do micro coil and cotton on my Kayfun, for example with great results. I probably prefer silica on this device because I don't want to have to worry about dry burns of the cotton, without a clear tank to know the juice level. I assume silica should also produce great flavour if built properly.

Here is a pic of my current setup with still poor flavour.

The setup of this photo, has a couple of issues. The air channel is almost closed, muting the flavour. The wick seems not being torched, another factor of muted taste. You have to use less wick and please take a look at our tip and tricks thread here on ECF. It will definitely help understanding the fundamentals of a silica atomizer. Use less wick, less filler material, and keep adequate space between the air hole, in order the atty to breath. Mind you also, not to struggle the wick and dry burn the wire 4-5 times before you put eliquid on it. Alternatively, pass the wire over the flame of a lighter to insure that it will be softer when you coil it and it will help to get rid of any weird taste. Boil your filler material, and take apart the base of the Spheroid, giving it a good cleaning.

I have replied to your email :)

Wow, I don't know what part is fixing the problem but it's getting a lot better. :) I re-built with 30g kanthal, 5, wraps, and 1.76 ohms. I raised the build to above the screws, and added another 1.5 ml of juice. Well it has gotten a lot better. I also made the mistake of not cleaning the device before starting my setups so I might have been tasting some grease. So all in all with all that change I don't know what one or a combination of them, made the difference. I'm kind of shocked 1.76 is giving me a good vape with a mech running 18350 efests. The issue might have just been that I didn't clean the new device before using. In any event woohoo. :)

Thanks everybody for all your help. You are all very kind. :)

Thank you Perseas. So I should boil the fluff and dry before using? Is 3mm x 2.5 mm a good size for the fluff? This time I did torch the wire and silica before building.

Cool! Personally, I put the fluff under the hot water for 1-2 minutes, other people boil it for 5-20 minutes.
The density and the proportions of the fluff are a little subjective. Mine is 4-5mm x 2 mm, holding 3.2 ml filled with a syringe and 2-2.5ml filled with a pointed bottle.
