Doggie made it thru the night and is still stable. Still hoping that it stays that way. Vet said he its still very touch and go. Went to see him and it was very sad to see him all doped up on morphine and hooked up to the IV. He recognized us but could not really move. I am very shocked that in the place that there is no one during the night in the office to keep an eye on the animals overnight. Vet said it was common except in the ER vet places.

What if they turn for the worse during those hours and need resuscitation? If something goes wrong and they need something and they die in pain or something that could be helped if they had quick help?

Seems odd that they dont hire someone to just at least sit there and call the vet or a vet tech to come in if needed?

Wait a sec my reply to your post did not go through...

Your doggie is my prayers and I hope for a speedy recovery.

So good to hear he made it thru the night. This is something that really has to work itself out. Believe it or not the pancrease is not something that can be quick fix. They are doing exactly what they did to me. Pain management and fluids. It has to work itself out. Yankee had a really tough time with watching me go thru it and we had no idea how deadly it is for humans. Morphine works wonders though...at this point it is probably harder on you guys than on him.

I was shocked that in our area, the norm is no coverage overnight unless ER facility. I feel like I have one of the very best vet clinics in the state of MA and they have no overnight coverage. Don't let that bother you too much. If they felt that your baby needed overnight care, they would have you take them to ER facility. Honestly this is going to work out the way it is going to work out whether he is watched overnight or not. It is disturbing to people that have never needed this extensive care but it is the norm rather than the exception. Keep your chin up Pris.

Happy thoughts for the little guy.

Thanks so much Jo, It helps a lot to hear that about the no overnight. I was thinking I had made a poor choice in care and feeling guilty.

Im thinking that once I get myself in a better state of mind and health, that I could go to the clinics walking distance from my home and offer some volunteer work such as some sort of security watch , for those "just in case" times or at least talk to the furry patients to add some comfort.

I've been gone a while, burying family non stop it seems lately. Anyway, I said I was only going to use the new XTi for special occasions and what not. Way wrong answer. I put that with the Lux on that baller holster and they have become my go everywhere tools. I don't know what I was originally thinking. Here's a shot of the new XTi mod on my bike that will soon have new mods of her own.

XTi.jpg

I was coming home from MD this weekend on the bike, stuck in construction on a 2 lane road and shut if off, propped my feet up on the bars and grabbed the XTi and had a vape. Got through the stoppage and pulled into a gas station to get some water. A lady pulls in next to me and just had to look at that mod. She saw it from behind me in her 4 wheeler and thought it was amazing. She had some balls on her to go up to a complete stranger like that. At first I thought it was because I'm just so good looking, only to find out it was Perseas she was after.

Freaks.

Hello Perseas,

I just got the "special" package and all I can say is that it is more beautiful than I thought it would be. It helped to add a brighter spot to my day........

I am glad if that helped a bit to cheer up the mood. My best thoughts go to your doggie, he will revive eventually, even quicker when he feels loved :) Animals are literally ESP machines, they feel everything and they feed on it. Human love comes as a healing bliss to them, especially in domestic furry guys like dogs and cats. I had very strange healing experiences with dogs and cats, they are unique beings. I wish a fast recovery to your doggie :)

No no Pris...the competency of the vet has nothing to do with no overnight. It's amazing how we questions ourself and our decisions so much...we want to do what is best and it is so hard.

Be good to yourself Pris, you deserve it.

Hi Everyone. Sorry I haven't dropped in much this past week. Been super busy with work.

But Faith and I are on another daddy - daughter weekend. Staying in Santa Monica again. We are here for a hamster convention. Lol.

Stopped at a local b&m. Showed the folks there my GPs. They've only heard of them and seen pics but never touched. They were amazed. Especially by the button and the TiX.

Picked up an Aethertech Orchid.

So sorry about your pup :( Pancreatitis is tough but sounds like the vet is doing what needs to be done. Like Jojo said, it's really just pain management and supportive care. It can take what feels like forever to turn the corner. I am an ER vet so I have an idea of what you're going through with Faith.

If it really concerns you that there's no overnight coverage at your vet's clinic, you can always transfer Faith to a 24 hour facility. Sometimes during the first couple days when they are more critical it's better, and a lot of 24 hour facilities have specialists to help manage the care and oversee the treatment plan. But, do be prepared to pay more for the extra peace of mind.

No no Pris...the competency of the vet has nothing to do with no overnight. It's amazing how we questions ourself and our decisions so much...we want to do what is best and it is so hard.

That's so true! It's very costly to be staffed overnight, because not only do you need someone there who's willing to be there, they need to know what they're doing, what to watch for, etc. And, a vet needs to be available on call if something does seem amiss. In most bigger towns, cities and urban areas there is at least one 24 hr place nearby enough so the GP vet doesn't have to worry about being on call or seeing emergencies in the middle of the night anymore. Vet medicine is becoming more like human medicine...let the GP focus on the GP stuff, let the ER vet focus on ER stuff, and let the specialists focus on their specialty. It's better than trying to be good at everything, and provides better care in the long run.

It sounds like Faith is quite the fighter and I have her and her human family in my thoughts :) Hang in there, and go visit her as much as possible so she knows not to give up!

Thank you Wildvet, I was wondering about your "name" I thought it might be because you were a veteran. I appreciate your reassurance, it helps a lot.

Thank you ALL for your support. Even though he is my brothers dog, I love the little guy. He is very shy around people, especially men. Im thinking maybe during his show circuit, he was treated badly by those handlers.

He was sold and shipped from Australia as a puppy to enhance the US breeders stock, and to win to make the breeders reputation higher. Not all breeders are just in it for the money, but after decades I think some start to loose their affection for most of the dogs in their kennel and they become "objects" He was obviously not shown a lot of affection as a pet, he does not give kisses and only after we got him does he really wag his tail and roll on his back for petting. He is very affectionate, and you can tell affectionate behavior was not encouraged. When you go to pet him he used to cringe as if he was going to get hit.

He is much better now, and loves to cuddle and he gets really close to giving us kisses by nuzzling against your face.

His foster parent had him de-barked and its so sad to see him run to the door when someone rings the bell , and squeak and cough.

I was very young, when I started out in the animal 'rescue' world. I was very lucky, to find a small new start-up vet practice willing to work with me. I never could have done the volume of what I did back then, without their willingness to discount my rates. They liked what I was doing in the community. They knew I was doing it all on my dime. So, they worked with me. It was very kind of them. But, it helped them as well. With almost every adoption I did, they gained a new forever client. They used to block out entire Saturdays to see my rescue critters. I had an old Chevy Suburban. I would load it up with my crated rescue critters, and off to the vet we would go. It was quite a site. They would see 20+ of my rescues on a Saturday. We always made it like a party. It was crazy and fun! Over the years, the vet center grew and grew. They are now a very large high-tech operation. When someone new gets hired there, and they see my single digit account number, they say 'Wow!'.

Memories.. :)

Nice picture Pris! I'm surprised you didn't pick up the 500 tubes.

Did P hook you up with a brushed button too?

I was really tempted to get 500 tube, but I sold something and had just enough to get the second X. Maybe someday, but I really dont mind the beautiful seams.

Yeah, the X is nice and all, but what's up with that case?!?! That thing is cool! And I really mean it! The mods just lay right into the foam. Plus, I see all those goodies sprinkled around. Wow. Is that case available on the GP site?
