Mr. Charles Edward Anderson Berry passed away yesterday at age 90. He is possibly the greatest rock and roll pioneer of all time. The legendary musician who merged Blues and Swing is not with us anymore, but his music will live forever. R.I.P. Chuck Berry!
CNN as usually tried to defame his name by referring his adventures with the law when he was 21 years old, with sneaky comments near the end of the video.
Of course, no reference to the fact that Berry's music even made it into outer space. His 1958 hit "Johnny B. Goode" is the only rock and roll song included on the so-called "Golden Record" affixed to the Voyager spacecraft that was launched into the cosmos in 1977. Legends like him shaped the history of their nation, influencing the whole world and not just a music genre as CNN claimed. I wonder whether their discrimination is rooted to racial propaganda. If he wasn't black, they would be more objective or not?
They also failed to mention that he left behind another enduring legacy: His marriage of 68 years to Themetta “Toddy” Suggs. One of the most enduring love stories in the history of the music world!
The rock legend had announced in October 2016, on his 90th birthday that he was releasing a new album. The album, titled "Chuck," was to debut in 2017. It was his first new album in 38 years.
The "Johnny B. Goode" musician recorded the project in his native St. Louis with his longtime backing group, which includes his children Charles Berry Jr. and Ingrid Berry. In a statement, Berry dedicated the album to his wife of 68 years, Themetta Berry, whom he refers to by her nickname, "Toddy."
"
My darlin’ I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!" he said.
