Me and my siblings have 35 acres each in Mississippi where I hunt almost every year. I got a single wide mobile home sitting right next to a pond we fish in. There are shooting stands in trees on the property, that were initially built by my grandmothers great uncle. My cousins run a hunting camp on their land every year. I will post pics when our power comes back on. We have been without for 2 days now due to a terrible storm. My daughters are appreciating the simple lifestyle. LOL
One says it reminded her of our place in Mississippi.

I have 20 wooded(old woods) acres at home. Beautiful place! My summer place was 200 acres in Maine. I shoot, but I don't hunt. I hunt the critters with my camera. Many of my friends in Maine, own bear and moose and hunting camps.

Daughters.. Simple lifestyle.. Funny! :)

That is awesome, Cuco. I brought all my daughters up bow hunting. Their first years spent in a stand with a camera. My oldest still prefers to go out with me with just a camera. We can sit there for hours and I would intently pass on good shots just to enjoy that special moment.
It's funny, I never new about trophy hunting until I moved to Michigan in 1989. We always hunt to eat and never counted points on a buck rack. I have to say that my most fondest memories were those shared with my daughters, observing nature.

VapinBill: Your daughter.. Love that smile! :)

VapinBill: I have never tried gator. Does it taste like chicken? :)

pt91: I haven't fished since I was a kid. As a kid, I fished, clammed, and crabbed. Hubby #1 and I had a boat, but we just did pleasure boating. We had good times! There used to be many fine people on our waters. Later, there were too many drunks messing things up for us.

Perseas: I love how you write! Your words always seem poetic.

Perseas: Is there a flat top for the X?

All: Funny how we all change our batteries in different ways. Don't know why, but I always change mine from the center. Hmm..

Glad to hear that another person hunts to eat, not a trophy. My hubby hunts bow season is opening here in 6 days, we eat venison for almost half the year or more! Hubby's family has land in Oklahoma that we hunt on. He has about 40 acres. His parents live out there. Intact hubby did not have a wall hanger until two years ago. I will have to post pics!

Also saw pics of your girl beautiful smile! Do you all only hunt dear?

Cucco: Gator meat reminds me of thick pork chops for done reason. Lol

DarkSparkle: We hunt deer and small game : rabbit and squirrel. My daughters were taught as I to appreciate what nature provides and to never disrespect life.
When I was getting the mobile home installed, the youngest wandered how we were going to keep the snakes out. I told here we were going to allow our cousins cats around. She asked if the cats were going to chase the snakes away. My oldest told her that the cats were gong to keep mice out. My youngest made the connection right away. Lol

vapinbill, be proud you are teaching your daughters this! My family never let me hunt as a child because I was a girl.(and girls could not go to the camp with all the boys it was not right, and the boys had this time to be boys) when I met my husband he taught me to hunt, track & scout. My dad then realized that I would have been a great hunter! But life happens and I now have chronic pain in my shoulders & neck. It is tough now for me to get up in a stand and to hold my gun up. but we do enjoy scouting and hunting sheds together, i am an influence in where he chooses to set up his blinds & stands. and I love shooting!!!!!!! Squirrel, rabbit, turtles, snakes
and here is my hubby's trophy dear! we do want another wall hanger but ultimately that is not what he hunts for and of course we wont hang anything less than 10 points

DarkSparkle, Sorry to hear about your shoulder and neck pain. I had to go way down in draw weight since our car accident. Thank you for the compliment about me teaching my girls. I want them know how to live off the land if they had to. They use to spend summers in the country and worked along side of their cousins in the bean and potato fields. They fed the chickens , kept the coups clean and collected eggs. They learned how to make ice cream the hard way . Lol
They have stories to tell their kids one day.

Oh I have tested drawing a 50 lbs compound and can get a few great shots but I would have to be nearly on top of the sucker to get it. I generally just do archery with hubby while he is practicing for deer season. I am a rifle hunter & a great shot to boot. I wouldn't try to break into my house lol.
i love my 22 and my lady derringer i play with the 9 mil & the 358 and do better than "the Boys" :p

Strike, I never did change batteries from the switch end until I got my X and I've been noticing that it's been causing wear on the Heron long pin. Try from the atty end and see if it helps... it works for me.

I figured that changing from the switch side would cause less wear on the GPin since I'm not twisting it down on to the battery but I'll start trying it that way more often to see if that makes a difference. Thanks.

That's awesome Bill. But how will you charge you batteries. Lol.

I'm sure most of us have enough batteries to last us few days. My area is pretty prone to outages so I'm glad I made the investment of a standby generator.

I have a ton of charged batteries that will last me until tomorrow morning till I get to work. I will recharge there. A representative from the utility company told us our power should be on tonight. Fingers crossed.
Next major purchase is a standby generator that runs on natural gas. Lol

A question for people in the KNOW!

Any idea when the Piccolo will be available again so I can start saving? My Spheroid would look great on one of those beauties!

There has been no eta at the moment so just start saving anyway.

See? Now if I was in town, I'd let you use my trucks generator!
