... and as I sat here chain-vaping, I noticed all-of-a-sudden that I had liquid running down my hand from the side air port. So I probably have to take back what I said and adjust the fluff. I think maybe my fluff width (18mm) might be a tad too long and is touching the deck ring which allows (by contact) the liquid to run down where I don't want it. I'll try adjusting and will report back.

Over wicking is the possible cause and the long tail (inside the chamber from your photo), guided the liquid into the air hole ending to the AFC. I use Heron v2 with fluff and without the topper with cotton only and both tails are not very long, so they stand like tiny horns above the edges of the deck ring. If you want only one tail upwards, cut the other one short, don't let it too be so long, because the v2 has no raised lip around the air hole. The density of the fluff is critical too.

I prefer the build deck of the Spheriod without the deck ring like on the Heron V2. I seem to get better or more consistent wicking with the wick tails coming straight out instead of having to bend up.

I took wrap off my normal Spheroid build for the Heron V2 and lowered the ohm from 1.2ohm to 1.ohm. I'm getting much better results but still prefer the Spheroid. It still crackles or hisses a bit, hard to explain, but i don't think i have the wicking right. Again, i don't like the bend on the Heron V2 and wish the tails came straight out like the Spheroid.

The deck ring is not new, it was there since 2013 (Heron v1 and v1.5), so it doesn't contribute negatively or positively to the wicking. The density of the fluff is the critical factor for the fluff builds. With Heron v2 you can make lower in resistance builds than with Spheroid, due to its size.

I don't actually own the latest spheroid so I can't attest to the new design. I did prefer the Heron because I had problems keeping my KGD wicks in shape with the old spheroid and the Heron ring/cap helped keep it in contact with the fluff instead of sagging or being sucked into the bell. With the spheroid, I basically worked around it with a single loop of SnC but prefer the KGD.

Functionally, I prefer the Heron/paps over the spheroid/piccolo mainly because of capacity. one Heron/paps can get me through an outing without having to carry extra batteries and eliquid. :)

GP HnP while wonderful, Im having better results now, I miss my piccoloid, should not have sold it, may buy another :) I also prefer the spheroid v4 chamber cap to the heron v2 for fluff less builds. For me the orings section is fiddly for wicking with the chamber cap but I'm not giving up yet, I will continue to perfect the builds!

I think I've kicked my occasional flooding problem with the addition of some fluff. I added 20mm to make my fluff length 130mm and trimmed the width down to 16mm for use with my 50/50 juice and so far so good. :)

Trying to change only one thing at a time to identify the issue. Will try adjusting the wick a bit if I still experience over-wicking.

I'm beginning to miss the lip on the air port on the build deck. Even a tiny lip would be a big help I think.

edit: btw, the throat hit in much increased in this setup. I suspect it may be because there's no topper in this build. I may have to lower the nic level in my next DIY batch and I'm already down to 5mg at the moment.

P, can we still get Heron v1 positive post insulators? If so, I'd like to order a couple to go along with more fluff to add to my collection :)

Hello my friend!
Send us an email about it please.

Perseas, have you considered a replacement kit for the Spheroid V4 like
for the other Spheroid versions?

Yes, I have put it already at the store, along with the Heron replacement kit v2.

In my opinion, the Spheroid v4 is super efficient in liquid consumption compared to everything else I have vaped till now.

The throat hit is increased due to the smaller chamber :)

Totally AGREED!
I wasn't trying to knock the spheroid or anything, but the different in vaping time between my original heron and paps (in 18490) was significantly longer - that's what I meant by "capacity". :)

I'd prefer not to have to carry spare batteries and liquid all the time. Now that I'm using 18650s, I can go most of the day before swapping out

Absolutely AGREED!
An 18500 battery usually gives me a full [work] day with an above 1.2 Ohms coil and around 14-16W (that's how I use most of my setups). With 14500s, as with 18350s, I carry a couple of spare bats. And usually one change midday suffices. At home 18650s with an under 1 Ohm rules tho!

King P! Just received my Heron v2 and after watching a quick video from Q, I was up and running in under 5 min. The Heron V2 is absolutely stunning in appearance and so far is vaping perfectly as expected. Perfect atty for air travel, Thanks P for the crafting the perfect atty!

Thank you once again Captain Stan for this alternate build! The shooting is perfectly clear and these characteristic close-up shots are very well done!
The pleasure is all mine brother!
