I'd have to argue and say that it's different, not necessarily better. It just depends what you're looking for.

Having said that, I only use rebuilt coils in my ProTanks, I haven't attempted that in the Aspires yet.

Yes and no. There's some VERY interesting stuff being done with the protanks (cotton wick, nano coils, chimney coils, diamond coils) that can make for some impressive performance.

I rebuilt my protank after messing with the RSST a bit. Built a perfect coil and the PT2 worked flawlessly with it. But I would never compare it to an actual RBA. Drawing from a bottom fed clearo just isn't as good as my RSST.

Protanks don't work AT ALL for me. While my husband loves his, and gets plumes of vapor with them. So I tossed them his way and feel jealous with the results he gets. Maybe vaping style? Who knows!

Guess I was lucky also, all my pro tanks seem to act fine!

And that is exactly what the problem is - why is Suzaz' husband getting a great vape but not her? Why has peltron had out-of-the-box issues and not CodyWilly?

Most of the 'vets' that follow GG aren't going to be emailing him asking why their ProTank isn't working - it's most likely people that have just bought their first Vamo and a PT to go with it and expect it to just work. There's a lot of great support in the e-cig community but there's also a lot of vets that forget how much learning they've had to do to become 'vets' - from what I can see there's also a lot of 'voodoo' and myths that have been picked up on by people that aren't newbies but they're not necessarily that experienced either - no wonder people have problems and get frustrated.

Add in poorly translated/lacking instructions and crappy QC on things like replacement heads and it's no wonder threads like this keep cropping up.

Just opened up 4 more Pro Tank 2's to bring my total to 2 Kanger PT's and 8 Kanger PT2's. I like to swap my juice out, the PT's don't EAT my juice like the wicks on a top coil, I can totally dis-assemble for cleaning.......and switch out the wicks with cotton and make my own coils.
The 5 pk replacement heads and even the ones that come WITH the Protanks can be all over the place on your ohm meter, not fire, or only half the coil lights up.
I've vaped these puppies for 5+months, know what to do when "something" goes FUBAR with them, and........they're manufactured in China, even though Kanger Tech does have a decent rep, so I don't expect them to be all that and a bag of chips.
I don't DIY juice, I love my juice vendor, can afford it, so seeing juice rinsing off top coils (are we talking 1 mls +?), and the warm vape didn't cut it for me....
But...HEY! If any of you folks wanna ditch the old PT's, send 'em my way!!!:thumb:

When I read your comment, the first thing I thought was "Man, I love people from Jersey"....I thought it was funny , even without sarcasm font. Good job!

I've been using unitank, protanks and mini protanks since I started in October. I'm physically unable to fiddle with the wicks and coils, so I've been using stock coils. So far I haven't had any problems that I didn't cause by ignorance (high wattage, inhale technique) and am completely satisfied. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I sure haven't been that lucky with other brands and styles.

If I had all the "donated" devices he has I would not be fond of the tanks that need a little maintenance now and then either. He is not a tinkerer kind of guy.

Actually, in his 2013 review, Grim loved the ProTank 2 - when he found he could recoil it, he loved it even more - his 'rant' is a response to the emails he's been getting from fans, not as far as I can see a reflection on his own personal experiences (heck, I doubt he even uses a ProTank any more).

Grim says in his vlog that his tattooist buddy has had problems with the ProTank and iClear clearos - sounds to me more like user-error than defective products (who knows though, maybe he really *is* that unlucky).

Grimm green said that there is a problem with burning on protanks. I think a lot of the problem is the more advanced users saying they us higher volts or watts. The new users are trying the higher V/W with no regards to the olms.
Kanger recommends 1.7-1.9 olms 3.1-3.3v, 2.1-2.3 olms 3.4-3.7V, 2.4-2.6olms 3.8-4.1V and 2.6-3.0 4.2-4.5 V. These are all in the 1.7 olm,3.1 v = 5.5 watts or close, 3.0 olms 4.5V= about 6.5 to7 watts.

I think the protank itself is great, it's the replacement heads that suck a big one. After not using one at all in at least a month, I grabbed one this morning. Put in a fresh head from a 5 pack, filled it, and didn't even touch it for at least two hours. 4 hits in, and already getting dry hits. This didn't happen when I started vaping. I loved the protank, swore by it, encouraged others to get it. Then...wham. Terrible heads. Terrible!

All in all though, if the qc was better I probably wouldn't have ever found out how great a carto in an IBtanked could be! Thank you kanger!

Could be e-liquids too - the ProTank supposedly struggles a little with high VG liquids if you don't pull a flavour wick (can't say for sure though, I'm using 70/30's in mine - flavour wicks are better in than out).

I wish someone like ProVape would make a high-quality clearo that's rebuildable and also supports replacement heads - something designed to be sold alongside the ProVari for beginners but also good enough to build some great DIY coils on - I see it as a gap in the market atm - lots of clearos from China and a few from Europe (and Russia!) but where's the kick-..., ProVari-quality clearo??

Given that one can rebuild the coils, use one's own wicking material, etc. - why would we declare the ProTank dead?

Is there something wrong with the metal body, performance-wise? One can adjust the airflow (on the PT2, very minimally, granted), the base is sturdy, the liquid feed is good, etc. - what's missing? Just the heads I suppose - but this is adjustable as well.

Of course, for the average (?), or inexperienced user, taking apart the coils isn't convenient - but for the rest of us, we make micro-coils and use cotton, and the ProTank really performs.

The ProTank is dead! Long live the AeroTank! :D

The ProTank isn't going anywhere - it's cheap, well-constructed (for the price), has a nice glass tank and is easily rebuildable - the AeroTank is going to be wildly popular because it fixes the fundamental flaw the ProTank had - poor airflow design. Since the AT draws from the side of the tank it doesn't matter how tight you screw it down you're not going to restrict the airflow and with no hole on the bottom it's not going to slowly but surely dribble juice the way the PT does.

Oh, and it looks like a KFL - what's not to love? :D
