It sounds like the center post is shorting to the connector body. How tight are your screwing you atty/carto/clearo down? My connector was pretty shallow, meaning that I could not screw anything down all the way without stressing the rubber isolator under the center post. They are known for splitting and shorting the connector. To mitigate this, screw it down until you feel a little resistance and then 1/4 - 1/2 turn more.

It's an easy fix...if you have the prerequisites that Bill listed. :D

I've tried barely screwing it on to seeing it in really tight and everything in between, and nothing makes it work. I won't throw it out just yet, but I'm going to have to get a replacement as 2 PV's in my hands isn't enough...

You could send it my way. I'd feel bad letting you scrap it for what could take me 20min to fix. If that is all it is, I could have it back to you in a couple days. I have plenty of spare parts.

Really? You'd do that for me? That would be amazing! I would be so grateful! Can you pm your address and I will get it out to you Monday? You've just made me so happy, I don't have to say goodbye just yet:D

I wholeheartedly concur.

My last post wasn't meant to suggest that Firewing should throw away her damaged Gripper. I was just musing about our collective experience as vapers. And from what I know of the posters on this thread (not much, just from what I read), Radar may well be just the right guy for the job: patience of a saint, knowledge of an electrical engineer, tool-savvy of a mechanic, and delicate skills of a brain surgeon. I mean that sincerely, with no veiled sarcasm. If Firewing's Gripper can be repaired, I'd wager that Radar can do it.

I hope that Firewing's Gripper saga has a happy ending for all concerned!

Rader would it possible for you to use Firewings Gripper Fix as a small tutorial for the rest of us? I know I'm asking a lot but it would be good if we could get a few tips on how to do a fix should we have the same issue rather than besiege you with pm's asking you become our gripper repairman?:)
If not, can you please post hourly rate, parts & shipping?:nun:

A tutorial will be no problem. I have a soft-spot for the Gripper. I really liked mine when it was working. I just thought it would be a shame to let a $50-60 investment go to waste for a small repair with a part that can be donated from a used cartomizer. I don't charge anything, just paying forward the generosity of other members that have helped me.

add me to the " love the Gripper but it broke to soon" list

bought the Gripper around 2 months ago, felt that since I was starting to get into the RBA thing needed an ohm checker and not wanting to
dig out the multimeter. fell in love immediately, comfy in hand, not bulky, fit in shirt pockets, lightweight, just great.
3 weeks in, battery door kept opening, squeezed the sides and it seemed to hold the door closed, so super glued the seams.
well after the messy glue job, Gripper wobbled, wobbled enuf to fall several times, after the few falls, now my buttons have came off.
unsure of trying to open the case since it was super glued and causing more damage.
so I have a 2 month old Gripper super glued and buttons off if anybody has any suggestions to fix or donate to someone who thinks they
maybe able to use it or at least for parts

I was working on my car and had mine setting under the hood. Dropped the hood on the dam thing lol. Didnt even notice that it didnt shut all the way. Came in side went to reach for it and nothing. Instantly knew what I did. Ran out like it was a kid in the street about to get hit. Pulled the hood pins and opened it up. MY GRIPPER!!!!! The connector was pulled out and could not push it back in. So I pulled it apart and lined it back up. She works like it never happened. Dam, that was close.

Great thread, thanks to all that have given info on the gripper. i'm trying to decide on my first VV pv and it's between the gripper and the itaste. Both seem to have a lot of issues though so still can't make up my mind :(
I have both the Gripper and the iTaste and they are great pieces of kit. But I prefer the Gripper, it works better IMO

Thanks Firewing! I think my problem is dealing with the batteries. I've only been using KR808's these past 3 years, and all the talk about what type of battery to get is kinda confusing. Since I have so many 808 tanks and cartos, i've got the gripper from madVapes with the 808 connection in my shopping basket. Added the charger but unsure of what batts to get as they say their batts won't fit:confused:
