This is a reasonable idea but may not be convenient for some, so although this works for some, others may need another option.

So first you have to understand it's not that the devices necessarily need to be returned for accountability but because they want to make sure the devices are retrieved from the masses and not continued to be used. I thought this might be the case and madvapes confirmed this to me. I spoke with Mark and something should be decided today to make the return process as painless as possible. When I get more word, I will post here.

I was thinking that if the center screws are the issue, then remove those screws, place them in a small bag, and return the unit with the bag of screws. But that's just my :2c: Hopefully later today I can share more info.

I understand that these devices should not be continued to be used. HOWEVER, it is not just those screws. The battery is held in place by double sided tape and if it loosens, then the battery can hit the metal and short out.

See the Groove video Eva did that is posted all over to see what Im talking about.

Its partly the issue - but the battery gets loose and bangs against the metal casing as well. With the plastic Grooves it can get loose also, but doesn't have metal. Its still not great though - there's been a report on the forum of a plastic groove going thermal. They have to be broken open to get to what's inside since they don't have screws.
Thanks for the update.

You buy and pay for the item, which turns out to be defective AND dangerous----- and now on top of that you have to perform surgery on it, then package it and make a trip to the post office?

Not to mention being dangerous to USPS and UPS personnel if not properly dissembled.

Sheesh. Time for vendor to "rethink" their policy here.

I am not trained in electronics, and have no idea exactly what procedures would render such an electronics item "safe" to USPS personnel and anyone else who will come into contact with the device.

Since it would be MY NAME and address that would be on the package, and the mailer would be responsible for it harming someone, here is what I would do:

Take to an electronics repair shop, where people have been trained to assemble/dissemble electronic devices and ask them them cut the wires, dissemble, etc. in a safe manner.........and then send the vendor the bill for that.

retird, your idea is wonderful. However, my disposal company charges me for everything and anything I bring to them for disposal. Also, many people work full time, which is also the hours the disposal places are open.

My husband is a certified Auto Tech. It has been disassembled and is no longer a danger to anyone. The screws are out. Wires are sniped. It will not harm anyone. However I am going to wait to hear if another solution has arose. I would never put something in the mail that could be potentially dangerous. Also, taking it somewhere else in my car is a danger to me.
