Hi there everyone , i am considering DIY my e liquids... I know that i need to get a nicotine base and some pg/vg and flavorings. I see that there are 100mg/ 36/mg etc nicotine base liquids. Please correct me if i'm wrong but suppose i got the 100mg nicotine base liquid , it would last me long and i'll be able to make more juice in ml out of it or would be the same amount with the 36mg nicotine base liquid?
One more question i have is ... what would be the difference in adding water and not adding water when doing so? thanks alot
Hi godspeed! Welcome to DIY! First you need to know your PG/VG ratio preference, i.e., mine is 80/20 PG/VG. Since most flavorings used for e-liquid DIY are in a PG base, I make a large mix of 75/25, PG/VG. Then you need to know what your nicotine mg preference is. You can get PG or VG nicotine liquid in a variety of strengths. I go back and forth between 6 mg and 12 mg base. So, when I make my big bottle base, I fill 1/4 of the bottle with 24 mg nicotine VG and 3/4 with PG, cap bottle, and shake, shake, shake to give me a nicotine base of 6 mg. When flavoring is added, the nic strength will go down a little, so you might want to adjust accordingly.
I bought plain, see-through condiment bottles (used for ketchup and mustard, etc.) at Walmart. I think they were about $1.00 each and look like they hold about 16 ounces of liquid. They come with a screw-on cap with a pointy nozzle that has a small snap-on cap. They are easy to fill and make squirting their contents into a small bottle easy. I just eye-ball where to make marks on the big bottle with a sharpie marker in 1/4 increments. If I want a base of 12 mg nic, I would do the same except I would use 48 mg nicotine VG instead.
It is very important to buy quality PG, VG and nicotine PG or VG liquid. Since my preference has a lot of PG, I do not add any water. I would only add water if my base liquid was too thick (high viscosity). Don't try to save money by adding water. Use it very carefully, only to thin out a liquid that is too thick (like Daveymist said).
The higher nicotine base liquid will last longer, but you will need to add extra VG or PG. I "kill two birds with one stone" by getting nicotine liquid in a strength that adds the correct amount of nicotine and VG at the same time.
Hope this helps and you have fun with DIY. Best wishes to you!
