If it were up to me, and knowing i couldn't change an Americans fundamental right to bear arms, i'd be committed to making it quite clear to every gun owner in no uncertain terms that they will be storing their firearms in the same kind of secure safe used for storing valuable items. The kind which a regular thief couldn't penetrate or steel. I'd ensure the entire nation knew this is mandatory and those who choose to ingore it would be subject to criminal prosecution and ordered to purchase and install a secure safe for any and every kind of firearm in their possession.

Good thing it's not up to you. You would have us make our guns useless for defense. I keep a handgun on my nightstand, and another on my desk, where I can quickly get to them if needed, instead of being raped and brutally murdered, but apparently that's of little importance to the Leftist mindset. I'm so glad you are not making our gun laws.

You really need to rethink this. The world I've lived in these last 62 years is apparently nothing like the one you inhabit. I've had to draw my weapons twice to back off rapists. If I'd been unarmed it would have gone very horribly for me.

I really think you are just out of touch with reality.

I guess thats the reason Canadian laws don't let us keep guns on our nightstands, preventing citizens from taking the law into their own hands. A gun owner could potentially land in hot water for discharging a firearm at an intruder unless it could be proven that the intruder was an actual threat. I'd sleep a lot better having my Glock by my side, not to say I haven't been sleeping just fine up until now. Its pretty safe and calm up here in the North.

Or the defense of their lives?

When seconds count the police are minutes away....

I've lived in places where I didn't leave the house without a 1911 on my hip, ever, and for very good reasons. I had to draw it twice. I'll NEVER agree with your thinking on this issue!

Try being a single female and living in rural Alabama. That might wake you up a bit. I don't care how idyllic your life is up there in Canada, I don't live there and you don't live here. Where do you get off judging us? Stick to what you know.

I understand your rationale and it is valid. I was just explaining the laws here. I'm sure if I lived in the USA I would feel the same way as you. I mean I could count on one hand how many times something has happened where having a means of self defence could've prevented a crime. Believe me, if I lived in Alabama I'd probably be armed to the teeth lol.

If you were a single woman living there you'd be armed to the tonsils, trust me on this. In that place if you don't have a penis you'd damn well better have a gun!

I would not want to live in a place like that. I'm all for self preservation by any means, but I've never encountered anything remotely close to what you've described. I guess it's something I take for granted living in a great place like Vancouver, BC.

How I'd love to live in Vancouver BC. I hear it's quite a beautiful place. I've not had that option though. I was born here and immigration to there isn't an option for me. I've lived all over the US though, and I'm very well acquainted with this country. Having been raised with guns in rural Michigan I have very different views on them than you, for very good reasons. There are places in America where local culture and mores make women targets of rape and violence. Having never been one to quietly acquiesce to that I go armed, and there have been instances in which I was very glad I did. That taught me a lesson and I'm not about to forget it.

I hope I never have to fire a weapon in self-defense, that's the last thing I ever want to have to do, but if someone puts me in that position, gosh, I'm real sorry...

The crimes which have been mentioned in a few previous posts also happen in my country too. They continue to happen, none of us have guns to defend ourselves.

Let me illustrate one difference between England and America :

In the sport of Rugby, which is very similar to American Football, rugby players do not use any kind of body protection, except gum shields.

On the other hand American Footballers use every kind of body protection known to mankind and i'm surprised they haven't started playing the game in zorbs..

England isn't the only place in which rugby is played. It's a mans game, played by men who aren't afraid to get hurt !, and at no time in it's history has any rugby player ever come forward saying players need some form of body protection.

Why do American Fottball players wear excessive amounts of protection ?. And this isn't about the second amendment is it !. Hey, maybe American Football players should carry guns on the field during the game !..

So Americans feel the need to carry excessive protection.

I think it's perfectly acceptable for women to carry guns. They are vulnerable, they need that kind of protection.

Consider that they are in it for the long term having signed contracts for a career. If they are taken out with injuries their contract is worthless and a huge loss to the team they contracted with.

My response to that would be to find a career which doesn't involved getting their heads kicked in. Your arguement applies to boxers too. Or maybe they should wear helmets as well ?.

So we should ban American football seems to be your point.

No ,. I just think it kind of illustrates the true nature of American men. Maybe this second amendment thing is just one liberty of many which the average American man feels he needs to remain intact. But to go around and say that the second amendment is something they'll never give up, well, that's the kind of thing i'd expect a woman to say.

LOL! I suppose it's quite a joy for you to sit over there and judge Americans based on your own culture. Your culture is NOT our culture. I think you need to further educate yourself and do your best to shed your cultural chauvinism, which is rampantly apparent in the views you express here.

Try growing up here and then tell me all about it.

I am confused Evan, I agree that Rugby is a "Mans" sport, played Rugby in graduate school........if your not a man when you start playing, you'll be when you're done......where were the "Men' in England when they came for the Guns? Free Men are Free to protect their Life and liberty.........our founders knew this , and many of our Best fought and Died for freedom from tyranny .....and it has stood all these years for a very good reason..........unfortunately we are not far behind your Socialist ways here in America...we are a Nanny State , producing a generation of "Girly Men" .....I could go on ,but I won't ...........
