So my wife and I both have VV w/ tanks on top and for the life of people can't understand that nicotine imhalation is not smoking. They think its great but you haven't "quit" yet. This is quite irritating as I know the facts and they choose to say that we haven't quit yet. Anyone have/know people like this?

I have the same problem. The problem is the majority of people think its the nicotine in tobacco that's what's not good for you. If they ask questions tell them. However if they don't and just say you haven't quit. I always throw caffeine in their faces. Same type of addiction. But people never see that. Ingornace is bliss I guess

Yes I have come across a few people like this I usually reply with... if I was wearing nicotine patches would you say I had stopped smoking then? Then I have to explain that this is NRT, delivered in a different way.

Funny though it is usually smokers, that have this problem and still see it as smoking. Maybe they are jealous we have finally kicked the habit :)

The title of your post is the story of my life. LOL.

I don't really have any advice for getting people to see it your way. They've made up their minds and it would be very difficult to convince them otherwise. Like vchick said, just let it go. Maybe tell them that you can agree to disagree and not discuss it anymore.

Get on the boards here and help out newbies who are not close minded about harm reduction.

They see "smoke" and not the difference. They think you are vaping antifreeze, that there are still carcinogens in that stuff, and you are still addicted to nicotine. Only one of those is true.

The news articles in public media don't help. They don't understand either.

I think that presentation is a big part of acceptance. After vaping the same juice forever, my supplier ran out and said it would be two weeks before they had it in stock again. I searched around and ordered a tobacco sample kit from one of the oldest and most loved vendors. My wife says at least 4 out of the 6 juices stink when I vape them. She described the odor as a wet, mildewed dish towel. I tried changing cartos and juices and she can name the offenders every time I use them. Yesterday in the grocery store I took a stealth vape and blew it downward. A guy walked down the aisle right afterwards and made little choking noises as he passed. :)

I'm sure he will tell 10 people about how ecigs stink. After all, he smelled one first hand. Maybe we all should vape things that make people go, "Wow! What are you eating! I want some". Malty Toffee does that for me. People love being around it and they think my ecig is a marvelous invention. Then, there are those juices that make people choke as they walk by.

All the time, both when I transitioned to vaping, and currently. Most recently happened when I recommended vaping to someone attempting to quit cold turkey (who is back on analogues now - go figure!!!). He went on about how he would be now addicted to vaping and did not want that etc. It appears, at least in the US, that there will always be an "anti" x (insert your addiction here) mentality towards folks enamoured with anything other than god, work or family. While some see it as a great alternative, others feel that it's an unnecessary dependance (despite me also explaining that I, like many smokers, actually ENJOYED smoking.....the way I enjoy a good scotch.

I can, and have given elaborately detailed explanations of the technology as well as the actual effects of nicotine itself, and it does not matter. Really does not shock me considering the downright ludicrous quick judgements I get about being a public drug user when I am walking down the street with my Ego twist or Reo. Somehow I feel no child left behind isn't working - ignorance, and blatant stupidity is just far too common. Not my deal to sort out - I'll leave that to nature. In the meantime, I'll just happily vape away knowing that it is both an enjoyable activity AND a healthy lifestyle change. Plus, every now and then, most recently this week, I get such a good feeling when someone actually does try vaping after explaining it to them.

I often try to address caffeine when talking about nicotine and this at times has helped; a weeks ban on Starbucks would bring a lot of sympathy our way methinks!

I don't want to quit. Not trying. I just want to smoke safe! I drink beer and eat red meat too. :)
I'm old. I've excepted that people love their own opinions, makes them feel good to put people down. Know nothing but are authorities on everything. Ask folks like that about their life it will come clear to you just how smart they are. Lol

When people are trying to lose weight, they will try all kinds of things to cut calories and get skinny. I view ecigs as a way to continue to enjoy life without all the carcinogens and tar. People ask me, "Why don't you just quit?". Well, I did quit cigarettes, "Why don't you just drink water instead of that fat burning Smoothie you have in your hand?".

I run into that all the time :( It used to bother me a lot, but now depending on the circumstances I explain what vaping really is or isnt or I just ignor them. For those that dont' know me and havent' ever heard me talk about vaping I explain what it is and what it isnt. Few of them know anything about ecigs other then the lies and half truths spread by the FDA so I do try to be more understanding to their ignorance and try to enlighten them. If its someones thats already heard me talk about vaping and is choosing to ignor everything I've already said I ignor them. Unfortuantely some people will never change their minds no matter what truths or how often they are told.

I get this all day, every day. Hearts and minds, people, that's what it's about. We're' at war with an ideology sadly, specifically, the "quit or die" approach which is now hammered across so hard that even non-smokers think that is the only option.

For smokers, I usually ask: "if you could get "Marlbro' Zero", that didn't actually kill people- felt the same and allowed them to smoke anywhere, didn't make you smell, and costs a fraction of a pack of your normal cigs, you'd smoke them, right?"
That's what this is...

For non-smokers, I'm content for them to think I'm trying to quit; but for the curious I have a different answer for each question. Most commonly I explain that people lose their lives in house fires mostly from smoke inhalation, right? It's the harmful part- this is vapour- so it doesn't have the harmful effects of smoke.

I nearly always put it this way: "these are for people who love smoking, but don't want to die from it. I have the choice when crossing a road to walk in front of a bus, or behind it, one is very dangerous the other much less so, and I have the same choice with my cigarettes."

yeah i think we all have or will get this from time to time it's the nature of the beast also we are not conforming to what and how people percive an ex-smoker to be sadly in this day and age if you do not toe the line so to speak you are ignorant and misled it seems most people do not like nonconformist no matter how right and informed we are... also i tell them you are right i did not quit nicotene i quit smoking...

Yep, I'm agreeing with all of you. Been through it all too. People at work say "It still can't be good to be inhaling that stuff", and the typical from family and friends, "So when are you going to quit altogether?"...That happened again last weekend and I told them maybe never. They looked at me wierd and then I said, "That's why I never could quit smoking because I enjoy it too much. At least now I'm lower in nicotine and not inhaling tar and chemicals". That sort of shut them up for now.

I've said "The mist we breath out is just to make the people trying to quit smoking feel better. You don't see a rescue inhaler having intentional mist coming out. It's the cheapest nicotine you can get since cigarettes are so expensive. Well, maybe dip tobacco is cheaper if you buy the sawdust, but that's horrible before you even start discussing the spitting."

Or, what I did this morning, discuss how I burn out cartomizers with my thick VG not flowing and how I had some licorice juice crack a tank of mine because it was polycarbonate and that I need to get one that's polypropylene and that I found one at a good price but I'm going to see how what I have works for me because if I was going to buy more hardware I don't need It'd be a variable voltage...

And they almost run away cause I'm boring them with "crazy talk." Not as bad as telling someone about a TV show or your dreams. Or your MMO game. yikes.

So they are saying you have not quit smoking...

maybe you could ask them what they call the stuff that comes out their kettle when it boils...do they call it smoke?

Because if they do then fair enough, to them i guess you are smoking, but if they say no, it is steam, or water vapour, then you can say yes, thats right, the kettle does not smoke and nor do I.

Now that's the Pot calling the Kettle black! :) (And if you google that phrase, no, it is not racist). lol
