And they almost run away cause I'm boring them with "crazy talk." Not as bad as telling someone about a TV show or your dreams. Or your MMO game. yikes.

Wait.... what's wrong with telling people how much .... my maxed out Sorceress kicks????

I just start telling them about my juice collection. Non-smokers tend to realize I prefer the taste of this to cigs, and smokers ask me what I'm vaping and wonder if it really tastes like whatever I just said. I've converted a couple friends by hooking them up with a 78mm and a carto of something tasty for a day. "I can get nicotine from watermelon/tea/caramel cappuccino/root beer/gooey butter cake/rice krispy treat and my SO won't say I smell/taste like an ashtray????" Yep.. here's a battery and a carto full of (insert flavor here)... let me know how you like it at the end of the day.

I have the same problem. The problem is the majority of people think its the nicotine in tobacco that's what's not good for you. If they ask questions tell them. However if they don't and just say you haven't quit. I always throw caffeine in their faces. Same type of addiction. But people never see that. Ingornace is bliss I guess

Funny thing is I quit caffeine 7 mos ago. I finally realized that caffeine was way more harmful:p

I think those that use the phrase , "You have not quit smoking" really mean you are still addicted to nicotine. They are just too lazy too seperate the verbiage. My response is you are addicted to your cellphone, FaceBook, and Twitter... All these things allow you to surrender your mind to the influence of others. I am merely influencing MY OWN body without harmful smoke... Which is worse...
All in all its more a right to choose... for all of us! Live and let live. This is what ecigs allows us to do.

Sure a lot of concern about what other people think, from folks that mostly used to subject their surroundings with cigarette smoke and not give a damn before.

It does no good to try arguing. When people are genuinely curious, I describe it as the same thing produced by theatrical smoke machines and leave it at that. Maybe point them here to learn more if they want. If it's a holier than thou approach, more of a mind your own business short answer.

Then there's the whole asking for it in the first place, i.e. vaping somewhere smoking would be frowned upon. If you can't curb your PV use in situations that would get negative attention like that, you have other problems than what others think about your habit.

I actually viewed e-cigs this way before I started vaping. The girl at work who introduced me to vaping, vaped for a month or two before I finally started--and in the beginning I would ask her if she still hadn't smoked any cigarettes, and she'd tell me that she hadn't-- then I'd ask her when she was going to quit "that" and point at her e-cig.

It wasn't until after I started researching and reading here that I realized it was an alternative nic delivery system, and that I could have my cake and eat it too! I love my nicotine as much as I love my caffiene. I think a big part of it is that I also enjoy the hand-to-mouth aspect of it, the inhale and exhale with the enormous cloud of vapor-- and have no intention of giving it up.

No one's actually asked me the question yet, probably because the few times i've been asked about my APV, I have given very short, clear, get-right-to-the-point answers that cover all the bases. I make sure I slip in the part about how I love my nicotine and am so thrilled I don't have to give it up to get healthy--and yep, tossing in the bit about the tons of flavors available is always good too.

I've only converted one person, so not saying my method has tempted many smokers, lol

I got my first E-Cig to 'smoke' in the pub, with my drinks. I really love vaping in the bar, but find I almost never get any negative attention, only positive. My experience taught me that a negative is only created by a negative response, and anyone who says "oi! You're not allowed to smoke in here!" is usually doing it to make a joke, so I just reply "Iam" by emphasising the I, obviously...

And that would be an occasion less likely to draw negative attention. Half the people in the bar are probably jealous that they have to step outside to satisfy their own habit. Personally, I will usually stealth vape in those situations. If someone notices, my response is as I noted above. I'm not ashamed or anything. I just make a little effort not to bring attention to what I'm doing if I'm indoors and close to other people.

All I'm saying is: if you want to be a zealot, say walking down the aisle in the grocery store puffing out conspicuous plumes of vapor, you should not be surprised or get hurt feelings with a negative response.

My gf says the SAME THING!

"You haven't quit yet."

And I reply, "I have, I haven't had a cigarette in almost a year-"

"But you still 'smoke'."

It drives me nuts because first it was stop smoking and then I find vaping and she loved it at first but she just hates that like cigs, I still buy my nic fix and in her mind that's not enough. I tell her I'll just pick up a drug addiction and that just goes nowhere :p. But I totally understand. I just don't know what to say to make these people "get it".

Had a guy look at me and say rather snidely "how's the quitting smoking going?" speaking of my giving up cigs for the PV. He actually had the nerve to laugh. All this while stuffing his cheek with dip. (the made in america kind that is really bad for you) The same guy that was told by his dr to give up said dip because it was eating away at his mouth! He then proceeds to tell me that cig addiction is all in my head. I almost punched him! seriously! I finally yelled and said 'why don't you give up the dip! " Assbutt! Next time he says anything I'm not gonna be so nice. :) Jerk

I've vaped in several local restaurants, and even there when someone asks me about it, I've pretty much always received a positive response...but I don't tell them it's an e-cig unless they specifically ask, 'Is that an e-cig?' My current response is, 'This is a personal vaporizer that my doctor recommended to help me quit smoking,' because, well, he did.

Lots of chain vaping in the car. A HUGE thing for me while driving lol gotta have my nic while driving. At least now my lungs don't hurt the next day. Thanks for all the great responses! I've had various experiences and all have ended pretty good. I'm out and about at various events in Los Angeles all the time and I have gotten asked some pretty funny/weird things. Also got approached by a police officer that though I was doing drugs which resulted in tons of laughter and him giving it a try. Always carry spare cheap drip tips for interested people.

Hello, what I tell everyone is that it is a vaporizer and like usual they say, what is that? I tell them it is a device that makes a moist vaper out of the same stuff that is in most inhalators or humidifiers with some flavor. Tell them you quit smoking cigarettes but still enjoy the relaxation of inhaling a cloud of smoke like steam. Dont even bother to tell them it has nicotine unless they are a cigarette smoker interested in quitting and using one also. When they start with arent you afraid of the chemicals, you smile and tell them that the air they are breathing is kinda unsafe too, airplanes, car exhaust etc etc. Just tell them it is water based mist with flavor. I don't feel like im lieing you them, just omitting some of truth to make it friendlier to the average silly person that constantly ingests, inhales, or uses skin products, or air fresheners, perfumes, glitter glue, makeup, shaving cream, mouthwash, drugs, heck eats foods with the same ingredients in our juice but with more preservatives and sodium, etc. Nicotine is just another form of stimulant as coffee, quinine, energy drinks with stronger supposed natural stimulants that are just as dangerous as "scarfaces favorite drug" if not worse, 5 hour energy drinks etc. Im on a rant now. Don't be aggressive with them, remember you are out there Representative the vape world.

Now , Im female, and I dont want to get you in trouble, but you might just smile, put your arms around her lovingly and tell her , sweetie, darlin, if that was the case , I might have to give you up, cause some people tell me that my addiction to you is not good for me. I bet she might just be speechless .

I thinking that some people don't tell their doctors that they are vaping just because they don't want to hear about quitting that, too. Most doctors these days know all about vaping and approve of it. They will suggest that you taper down, of course, because that's what doctors do, but they generally won't hound you about it like they did cigarettes.

You might just be surprised at your doctor's reaction. The AMA wants them to be classified as drug delivery devices, but that's because they are in favor of regulation of nicotine, which is something that they prescribe to patients for quitting smoking and for Alzheimer's therapy. If you can get it on your own, they lose control.

Most doctors just smile and say that it's a step toward better health and if it stops you from smoking cigarettes it's a good move.
