I think what is Missing from All this is How Does Raising the Age to buy Cigarettes (or e-Cigarettes) from 18 to 21 save any Children?

If Children weren't being Saved when the Age Limit was 18, raising it to 21 aint gonna do anything. You could raise it to 40. Still doesn't "Save the Children".

So if they aren't saving the Children, why don't they just Call a Spade a Spade. And start saying that they are Trying to save the Adults. Because raising the Age Limit from 18 to 21 is Only Effecting Adults.
Seems to me they are saying that Smoking and vaping is dreadful! However imbibing other much more dangerous zombie-creating substances seems to be A-OK whether you're 9 or 90.

Do you suppose they thought this through? The police have now said they aren't enforcing this until April. I'm not surprised and can't wait to see what happens then. If I was a cop I would not be wanting to risk my life confronting the boys in the hood to enforce this law. Picture the local TV news story, "Shooting broke out between Honolulu police and gang members in the ....neighborhood after an officer tired to ticket ... for underage smoking..." Come on folks this is nutty bananas with whipped cream. Let's humiliate a tough kid trying to be a man who probably has drug issues and a psychiatric condition by humiliating him. The legislators may be that dumb but the cops aren't.

This is comparable in meanness to the human experiments the Nazis are accused of during WWII. If this is such a great idea then ban tobacco and ecigs from the islands and make everybody quit together. Otherwise it's just a bunch of thoughtless adults experimenting with kids' lives.

No, they didn't think it through, insofar as "we pass the laws, but the police are meant to enforce them". The police stated that they will use the first 4 months as "educational" to tell those underage who are smoking or vaping that they are now bad boys and girls and we don't care if you are of an age to vote. …..and of course the legislature doesn't, because the construction, teachers (yep, they're gvt employees here), public workers and government unions alone will vote these bozos in every single time. Grrrrr. Unfortunately for those in the target age group, just having the sellers enforce the law by penalty of fines will work very well. I hope that those concerned have friends and family who will sort things out for them.

Absolutely nothing that I know of, zoi. I think the vaping stores don't have a problem with the age raise, as it pre-empts the "think of the keikie!!!!" squealers. But, being an older (older, older) person, I don't have any exposure to the young'uns. Basically there's nothing the legislature CAN do about the other substances, so they content themselves by meddling in other much smaller stuff. As someone so compellingly stated earlier, raising the age to 21 still isn't going to stop 12 year olds from dipping into mom's smokes is it? Similarly as the politician (loosely quoted) stated to Michael Moore one time, "well, politicians don't need to pass an IQ test do they".....

Of course I could also take a guess and suggest they're doing exactly the same as they did when alcohol was made illegal......;)

Well, when No One does anything, it tells those who dream up Legislation like this 2 Things.

1 - That this is what the People Want.

2 - Even if there are Some who Don't like it, they Don't Dis-Like it enough to Do Anything about it. So it is Safe to keep dreaming up More and More Legislation along these lines. Like maybe a Big Fat Tax should be Next?

Ah yes, but we have tried - it's a losing battle in this State, and I think I already mentioned that "hearings" are just a joke at which no-one with other points of view are even allowed to speak. We'll see how it goes in other States as it happens this year, but I'll bet a dime to a dollar that you'll have the exact same experience as me and Smokey Joe.

I think what is needed is a Pro bono law firm to bring a Suit arguing the "Right" of an Adult to the Recreational Use of Tobacco and or a "Tobacco Product".

This is all the result of a people whom have chosen feelings over reason, propaganda over truth , Entertainment over Knowledge ..........why does this outcome in Hawaii surprise us?, it will come to the mainland .......its not just the liberal/fascist/socialist politicians( both democrat and republican, there is a scant difference between the two) and educators that are at fault , it is us for allowing the lies and the Treason to triumph as we watch our sitcom, pick our Netflix fix, and allow our minds to be lulled to sleep ..................in a nutshell, were screwed, and we , our parents, and our grandparents asked for it..........Control is the issue, whether 18 or 21, it doesn't matter, its smoke and mirrors( no pun intended) the end game is Money,Control, and Submission ...........
