No step down would be a huge problem with a TC chip though, wouldn't it? No way to scale down the watts to maintain temperature. Plus a .1 ohm coil at 4v is 160w (though the resistance rises when the temperature increases), so step down is really necessary.

Yeah, step down is obviously essential in tc mode. Also, the 'budget TC chip' from Yihi alluded to by Genghis (I assume this is the 330 V4S) does indeed have step down as would be expected (1-7v output) as does the 350J (1- 9.5v)! The 330 V4S is the chip in the new ipv4 100w TC mod!

As an addendum to my last post, I have seen shark clones advertised as TC with an advertised minimum output voltage of 4V!!!!! I bet they work really well.....not....

I've been reading much the same as others and also ponder TC without bucking...will be interesting how it shakes out when they hit the market... Yihi has brought some good chips along the way IMO so I don't discount the PR at this point...only wonder how they will achieve it...

Just to be clear, it looks like both the 'TC' YiHi chips buck and boost!

Ok so after reading the last few posts, I'm confused about how the TC actually works. I thought you pretty much set the limit that you want the coil to not exceed and you adjust wattage like any other VW device. Maybe I'm reading into it too deep but are you guys saying that you adjust the temp that you want to vape at? Like a variable temp device? I'm confused so thanks for any help.

I haven't read through the thread and I have a hate love relationship with the evolv DNA40s having owned 4 mods and 7 boards, out of those 3 faulty mods and 4 faulty boards ;)

In a moment of madness I bought a HB40 last night from a private ebay seller here in the uk for $US83 delivered they stated it had been professionally modded;)

What does everyone think the soldering looks crap but this is the UK;)

^^^^^ I'll just say that when I get mine (eventually) I'll do it a bit differently than that.
How's it working?
No idea ;) I was just browsing eBay for some mod building supplies and it popped up so I bought it. The picture I posted is the actual sellers. I sold a YiHi SX mini yesterday so one mod out and one in ;)

I found it a bit laughable it said professionally modded we shall see like you said its not the way I would do it but UK vendors don't get scrutinised like US ones.

I doubt I will leave it alone even if it works OK but It was a spontaneous purchase;) I'm left handed so I wanted to give one a go I can always sell it given the price I paid for it.

Its been a very rough journey for me with with evolv I have still to figure out why one of the big screen boards I have failed on me last week, it appears the on board down button has shorted even though I have never touched it and no hot glue insight;)

I vape left handed and I find the placement of the fire button brilliant on this device. It's comfortable right or left IMO.
Cheers for that with only 10% left handers it can be hard to find out! Still a little concerned about the transparency of the front screen and the 510 as the option switches look like standard dome tactile switches.

How is the fire button is it a 12mm tactile switch?

the smoked plastic over the screen is annoying. I can't read it without my reading glasses on, but I'm pushing 50 and my eyes have been going on me anyway.

The fire button is a good feeling, satisfyingly click-y button.

As far as the 510, I haven't had it spin on me since the first couple of days.

Downside: questionable 510 connector, some DIY soldering required on initial shipment units, too dark screen over display, 22mm tanks and attys slightly (almost imperceptibly) overhang the front of the box due to 510 placement. For me the upside wins: very nice enclosure, much more petite and less clunky than a hammond box. Tidily done interior. Magnet battery cover with detents so it doesn't slide around. Really, if you're going to make a box mod with magnets, look at how Hcigar made this.

As far as the Evolv chip, I've experienced no unexpected behavior whatsoever. I'm very fond of this mod.

I just turned 50 and my eyes are getting there too...

My MVP20W's have a mirror finish screen but the display lights up fairly bright behind it.

Wonder how the HB DNA 40 display would compare as far as brightness goes?

Who has the best price for these in the US at this moment?

Thanks

Eric

vaportekusa, and use the code from that thing that pops up in the corner of their web page, comes out to about $95 shipped with insurance....I think.
Hcigar is suppose to ship them this week....we'll see
