PBusardo just released both parts of his Evolv dna 40 review for those interested.. Should be very informative, and in-depth.. ;)

The fact that he gave it an overall thumbs down is interesting. I wonder if he told Brandon before he released the video; journalists (I classify Phil in that category) normally do let their subjects know the content of their piece and Phil seems like a stand up guy....so I assume so.

It appeared to bother him, as I'm sure it did.. He more than likely allowed Brandon to see it before released on YT. Many have expressed that they felt Evolv has dropped the ball a few times on the dna 40.. To his credit, Phil was direct and honest in his experience with the board. :)

Hopefully, I'll miss the screen issues, but if it, or other issues surface, that's what a good warranty is for huh? ;) As I posted earlier, my primary interest in the DNA 40 is to compare it's TP tech to YiHi's in their upcoming SXminiJ M Class.. I'm having a feeling that YiHi is going to come out on top.. :2cool:

you guys may know that I've been around the vaping scene for a while. All this new stuff is, well, new to me, as I was vaping Joye 306LRs right up til the beginning of 2015.

I'm a quick study though, and it didn't take me long to start getting familiar with the possibilities created by the hardware we have today, and in fact my style of vaping has changed dramatically, and I'm a much happier vaper for it.

I only have one chip worth of experience prior to my DNA 40, and that was the Yihi SX130. I was very happy with my Yihi powered device, and my oldest son now uses it and he loves it.

Just using my DNA 40 with Kanthal builds, I was immediately impressed upon that my DNA 40 device seemed like a much more accurate device than my Yihi SX130. An observation that was backed up by running some numbers on an Ohm's Law calculator.

There is the battery indicator issue. Vexing, but not a deal breaker for me.

My day to day vaping use since I got my Hcigar DNA 40 has been pretty much a delight. The jury is still out on temp control for me, but even excluding temp control I'm happy to have it. I already have an SX Mini M preordered, but I'm keeping this DNA 40 box. It's not perfect, but I think despite some annoying flaws that it gets the meat and potatoes right. I think a DNA 40 device makes for a mod that vapes well day in and day out. If I get the hang of nickel that's even more win, but in the meantime I do not regret one bit my purchase, and I'm actually quite fond of my Hcigar DNA box.

Not perfect, but still better than most of what's out there. That's my $.02.

Appreciate you stopping by.. :) Yes, things are pretty much hashed-out now, thankfully. I was quick to jump at the bit when I saw the clean build used. I generally avoid Chinese devices like the plague, and have seen many hot-glue messes in various reviews before, not to mention cheaply-made, inaccurate electronics. The SXmini impressed the hell out of me (still does, judging how it's been practically glued to my hand since late November), and thought the Hcigar would be a safe bet, especially utilizing a genuine DNA 40.

The more I thought about it, the more it frosted my ..... After much thought on the matter about "fixing" the device myself, I realized that I shouldn't need to do that, or just wait around for a crappy warranty to expire, just to have something come up which may fry the board shortly after. I went back and forth, then made the decision to nix the whole thing. I managed to get the order turned-around, but I won't get into that here.. That would be for another forum, and as long as things go smoothly, I will not complain..

I instead opted for one of Hana Modz V4D DNA 40's in their specials section yesterday. Pretty decent price for a dual 18650 DNA 40 IMO. I have used Hana Modz warranty service a couple of times before in the past with the V3 DNA 30, and while not totally satisfied, at least I DO have someone in the USA to send the mod back to for warranty / upgrades if needed in the future. (Note: YiHi has treated me right on RMA service also) The ONLY reason I want a damn DNA 40 now to begin with, is to compare it's temp-protection over YiHi's SXminiJ M Class when it hopefully arrives next month. I'll more than likely make the comparisons, and sell the Hana off afterwards anyway.

I'm sure that given the info that's come out, and certain vendors working with both Evolv, and Hcigar, a new revision will make the HB DNA 40 a VERY good device. :) Hopefully, the info presented here will be helpful to others in correcting what they already have, and be enjoyable, without fears of their board burning-out. :)

I really don't have much more to contribute in this thread.. I wish everyone the best of luck, and a BIG thanks to those who have been more than helpful in sorting this out.. :toast:

Glad you found a device thats good for you lets us know how you find the DNA 40, it appears VS have worked on resolving there builds I am still not convinced on the evolv and the DNA 40 far to many revisions and faulty boards.

It will be interesting to see if YiHi can release a product that works without the issues evolv have had.

What I found interesting is the fact that back in Oct. of 2014 Phil B. interviewed Brandon from Evolv for about an hour or so, and he literally was gushing about how much he liked the DNA40 and what a great piece of hardware it is.

For a few minutes there I felt like it was a Katie Couric-style interview.

Interesting for sure.
Of course everyone is entitled to change their mind.
We all do, that is what makes us human.

Ok it arrived, wrapped a .13 coil and wicked it. Not impressed, I am sure it's me but it reaches temp real quick no matter what I do. I will have to mess with it this Thursday when I am off but jesus this sucks so far.

Nice box though, Feels nice and buttons are nice. Kanthal she ran my Atlantis at 35 great. I will also be fixing the ground Thursday.

Even if yihi does come out with a better board, the elitists will still put it down because it's a chinese company.

I don't agree, YiHi have got themselves well into the market with their chips, and the SX Mini chip they use in their mod is excellent.
Many class them highly

And I got a good coil on it finally. I agree 100% Vapenstein the smoked screen sucks but I am digging the Mod.

I highly doubt that. I'm sure a couple will but for the most part people are excited. I got an ipv4 coming, just because it's a dual battery device, something I don't have in my arsenal. If it weren't for that is hop on the sx mini train. After receiving my rdna temp control is a must for any device I purchase now. I love that damn thing.

Ok so I scrolled through some pages and I apologize if this has already been addressed. I really want to get a DNA 40 device but I'm really hesitant after Busardo's review. I know he didn't test this device but are you guys having the issues he was with other devices as far as it getting stuck in TC mode or the refinement problems? I'm really glad I found out about those issues because it seems like some major PITA stuff! Kinda off topic but you can't make a contact coil with nickel? Thanks for any help. I think the price is great for this device but I just don't want something that will add unnecessary stress to my life. I'm aware of the ground issue. No biggy there.

I can't weigh in on ni200 til my tempered shows up in the mail. Lightning Vape ni200 has a problem where it reads 50-100 degrees hotter than it should. Based on my experience there, I have no use for temp control, but since I know that others had the same problems I faced with that wire I ordered the tempered ni200 from Stealth Vape and will try it again.

Just as a standard 40w regulated mod it's a very good box IMO
