Lol! I know lots of single women that make good salaries, but not sure they'd want a mentally unstable partner!
Hahahaha Ya most don't, unless they are also mentally unstable, and that typically doesn't mix well. Hence why I quit looking lol

I have a trucker ?

What is the deal with convoys? I seem to remember some staged convoys in protest to something in the 70's, was it gas prices?

That was some of it but it was mostly because of lowered speed limits and police setting up speed traps. That's when we saw the proliferation of radar detectors and CBs.:)

The tide always wins, even when they don't.

David... The convoys! What is the story with them? Where is Brett when you need him?

In 1973, Jimmy Hoffa and the Teamsters went on strike. Only this time they had a lot of support throughout the Industry. Trucking, as a whole, actually stopped for about a day and a half before the Government backed down. But the Government also decided that it should never happen again.
In 1977 Hoffa took a bullet to the back of his head in a private residence in Detroit.
In 1978 Ted Kennedy Introduced 'DeRegulation', which was passed into Law.

Nowadays the Trucking Industry is so divided, you can't get two truckers to agree on anything, let alone enough to make any changes. Freight Rates have changed very little (although Fuel Surplus charges have) in thirty years. Liability insurance just went from $100,000 to $400,000 last year, putting most Owner Operators either out of work or looking for Company Driving jobs. More and more, Mexicans are coming across the Border and getting into Big Rigs with limited English skills (comforting, isn't it?). It doesn't look quite as promising these days.

If I were still in my thirties, I'd seriously be thinking Career Move.

I feared as much Papaw..It was starting to get pretty bad when I had my incident and got the doctor banhammer. It was bad enough with the fresh meat student drivers just out of driving schools being the threats on the highways..now we got them that barley even speak any English. pfffft
Glad someone's up..I'm having back spasms and can't sleep..Forgot to get my meds filled. :(

just got a phone call and was informed that I am on "temporary lay-off" HUH?!?! no Idea how long either... it seems that budget hasnt been approved for 2015 and it is to be determined later... ( hows that for an answer?)
Budget should have been discussed and settled in Oct 2014....

good thing I can go back to my old job ( being self employed does have its advantages you can always go back to that job :) )

Thanks Brett for the trucking history lesson.

Bronze, you didn't miss a post. The ? came to me while driving home from CA last week. It was late, lots of trucks, one portion of the trip is up hill with only 2 lanes and there were trucks in both lanes going 45 (trying to get up the hill, slowing everything down which I didn't mind). Them I somewhat remembered being on a road trip with my mom on the NY State thruway and because of a convoy we couldn't get anywhere, it was gridlock. Then my mind wandered into, "what was that all about?". So I figured I'd ask. Now I know!

Thanks for clarifying the events. Now my brain is free to wander into other directions :)

Good morning!
