I had the privilege of touring a nuclear power plant. This was around 1997ish. Very cool. Security was super tight even then. Armed guards around us the entire way. The walls were six foot thick of concrete. The back up power to fuel the operation was most impressive. Had one large room of giant batteries that were always being charged. Then another room with two locomotives they used as generators. The control room was awesome. Never saw so many dials, levers, and buttons in one place. Looked exactly like China Syndrome.

This had to be an utterly cool and completely fascinating experience!

Indeed it was. Amazing how much power one of those plants can pump out...and inexpensively.

Morning all. Definitely cooling off around here, right now sitting at 49. Heading to the county fair later to spend way too much money lol. Hope everyone has a great weekend

Yes. My rates have hardly budged in the last 17+ years. Still at 11.6 cents/kwh. We get our electricity from a nuke plant.

Well, we are susceptible to hurricanes but we don't have any hurricane surcharges on our electric bill. Not yet anyway. But we never got one after Fran or Floyd which were highly destructive hurricanes.
