Just for the record, I've been on Windows 8 since it released to the public, and have not had a single.. not one "crash" on it. I've been running my PC 24x7 with "Folding at home", Editing, Internet etc etc..

All software that is loaded on the PC are current versions of supported software.

I do have software that monitor updates to applications, drivers for hardware, registry cleaners, spyware and anti-virus tools running at all times to keep things updated.

The PC is 4 years old, and ran Windows 7 before I upgraded to Windows 8. Other than the power outages, and moves that we've made. I've never turned it off.

Keep your PC protected and updated, and nothing will suck! ;)

The problem with Windows 8 is not that it isn't solid. The problem is the user interface is completely unintuitive for people trying to work. It's fine for games and apps and social media and whatever.

Hi Bronze, don't know if your company is in the mix or not but our company has some kind of deal with Microsoft where I can get office 2013 for 9.95. Here is the link
Microsoft Home Use Program - Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013. The software suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access and more!

Home office use program

I always like when Rich pops his head out of his hole and says something profound. :)

Thanks Bud!!! Much appreciated. I'll check it out. How's that Swish Sweet workin' for yuh?

I spent a month plus on Windows 8 and still couldn't figure out basic needs like retrieving files, printing, etc.. One minute it would work fine, the next minute not. Was easily the most screwed up version of Windows I have been on. Not looking forward to it. At all!

I agree GT... If I'm goofing around its fine, once I need to do any "work" with it I'm lost (I really have to focus to figure out how to print a downloaded form). Usually the kids come to the rescue :)

Exactly!!!!! I'll have to ask my little 8-year old friend to come over to help me. She already does circles around me on Windows 7. But I am getting better on Animal Jam and MonkeyQuest. I already have Nick, Barbie, and Mattel down pat! :D

Sweet Swish has just moved into the rotation instead of #1 all the time, now its rotating with pretty much all the .nets.

I've been running Windows 8 for a few months now, and it is different. It wouldn't be as bad but everything else I get on is Win 7 so remembering everything is different when I get on desktop you actually have to think about how do I do that again?

I agree on this point too. You know that saying, "The future is now!". Well, I think MS overlooked the fact that not everybody has touch screen interfaces at home. The OS is definitely a lot smoother when used on a touch device as opposed to with a archaic mouse and keyboard. :)

And when it comes to thinking, I struggle. :D

Microsoft forgot that most people not very much younger than me have never used a computer without a start menu on the desktop.

That's not so hard to believe when you consider that we went from the Abacus to little palm held computers in your life span. :D

LOL - OK guys, a few month ago, was there even a single bet out there that Robin would EVER be saying this. :D

Trying to figure out what to do with some of my HHV higher nic stuff. I don't want to sell it and I don't want to trade. I could try mixing to get lower nic but in all honesty, I don't think I want them. It's the fruits. <le sigh>

Me too. That's why my favorite is still XP. lol. I think Windows 7 is a re-run of XP in many respects.

I usually hold off upgrading until after all the bugs are fixed. I understand that when you get a new computer, you don't have that option of waiting, which totally sucks.

You say that in jest but we learned how to use slide rules in High School. There was no such thing as a calculator. :)

I remember that. First calculator I saw was my Dad's. A Ti. His company bought one and it was shared. He'd get it every once in a while and bring it home. It was like seeing a flying saucer...my jaw dropped. It cost $400 way back then.
