Just saw your post. I had L4-L5 fused in July 2011 after six years chronic pain and two other failed minimally invasive surgeries. I've never felt better and pain free since I healed. I know a lot about the subject. Hit me up.

What did the L4-L5 fuse do to your mobility? I can't remember which ones my bro got fused. I think it was in his lumbar but not sure.

BCI is Bluecross of Idaho and that is the plan my company went with a couple years ago. Interestingly almost exactly when I was completing the am I a candidate process with my neurosurgeon. I can kayak, ride a motorcycle, shoot competatively and be a lounge lizard so all is not lost. Until the final straw, I had season pass to Jackson Hole ski resort and skied alot, at very high level. That is what I miss most.

No Blue Cross huh? I'm BCBSNC (Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina)

Living out here in this area affords me a lot of VERY nice places to go. Us locals don't often go to Yellowstone; myself maybe 4 times a year.

Last time I drove thru Yellowstone, I remember hoping for an elk, deer, moose or bear sighting, so the huge line of slow moving cars would all pull over in unison and we could actually cover some ground, if even only for a few minutes until the next traffic jam, haha.

OK, another stupid Top Five Three list. Best avatar on the thread. It's a holiday so what the heck. I'll get it started.

1) The Chimp (I cannot imagine a better-fitting avatar for the person who it represents)
2) Catpire (Nothing else needs to be said)
3) A tie between Robin, Cali, and April (who grace us with their smiles every time they post). Hint, hint to the other ladies.

*tough not to have KK on this list. Where are you KK?

I'm honored that I made second place in the Presidents list.
Guess Catpire will have to stay from now on..

Robin... Back up to Olympia, Washington. First holiday in 5 yrs we are all together again. My sister in law, that holds us together, hostess extraordinaire, was tied up in some legal issues in Alaska for 5 yrs. holidays are just a little extra special this year. Can't wait to see her.

It's so nice to get to see family that you have not seen for a long time, hope you all have a great Thanksgiving.

Allow me to present the rough itinerary of a trip back to see dad:

Canberra-Sydney: 40 minutes plus 1 hour faffing around in airport.
Sydney-LAX: 13-15 hours plus 2-3 hours faffing around in airport.
LAX-JFK: 5-7 hours plus 1 hour faffing around in airport.
Taxi from JFK to Manhattan: 40 minutes.

This all assumes that everything takes off perfectly on time and there are no delays or traffic.

I used to wear a patch the whole time. It kept me from sleeping and left me with a nasty patch-shaped rash.
Vaping is a GODSEND.

Have you ever tried LA to Newark and then the short train from Newark to Penn Station? I can't deal with JFK.

Ouch! Just heard from my brother. He had some vertebra fused together. He has congenital stenosis real bad. He's less than two years older than me and has been a cripple the last several years. Finally got it addressed. He tried sending me an email and I laughed. It was barely readable. Anyone out there with fused vertebra?

I've had back surgery before... wasn't even 21 when it happened. Had a super big ruptured disk in L4\L5 and had to get it cut out. My girlfriend just had her spine fused about 3-4 months ago. She’s still recuperating from it. It’s no walk in the park that’s for sure. Just make sure he doesn’t over do it when he get’s out and make sure someone is monitoring his opiate medication if he has any; you don’t want him to end up like me and get addicted to them. I got the issue handled and take opiates anymore, but that is a slippery road in itself. You never think it’s gonna happen to you until it does.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll tell his wife to keep an extra eye on his meds (if she doesn't already know).

Ax, it is all dependent on what flight we get. I need to arrive in NY at a decent hour while the folks are still awake. Flights that land at 11pm are no good. Also depends on whether the flight consists of one long international flight (Qantas) or an international plus domestic (Virgin, Delta, United, etc). It is complicated and exhausting. And by the way, this joyride costs each of us roughly $1500, roundtrip. Grrrrr.

Do the planes you take from Australia fly upside-down? ;)

When I go it's last week of September - first week of October
I would never go during the summer.
I tend to spend most of my time in the lamar valley and up on mt washburn.
